- Welcome to this update on my journey of self publishing low and medium content books through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to make money online. You have probably seen many videos claiming that self publishing is an easy side hustle to make thousands every month. Its been a while since I let you guys know how much I earn now through KDP so let me update you. I hope, if you are considering starting with low content books, that you find this helpful (and realistic). Drop me a comment and let me know where you are with your KDP journey.

The music in the beginning drowns out your voice, feels too noisy, fyi. But love these videos
Thanks for the feedback
@@Projectrichmum yeah he is right
You’ve done really well with the KDP. I gave it a go and managed to sell one copy. I celebrated by opening a bottle of champagne so the net loss is around £40 lol
haha, that's my kind of celebrating 🍾
I hope you continue your journey and don't give up. Try and try until you succeed.
omg , well you have done amazing 🤣
100% agreed on your thoughts on KDP! It takes a lot of work and I've found my best books are high quality and better than the competition. I'm at 60 odd books and making around £300/$400 profit per month currently on average - and trying my best to double that by the end of the year.
Also same as you, KDP is one revenue stream. I also have RUclips, some freelance work, and some other bits and bobs!
That’s really good! Sounds like we’re on a similar path. 😊
@@Projectrichmum :)
Thats is amazing , how inspiring
Thank you so much for the update. I am on my own rich mom journey! I will figure this out!I hope you do too!
Thanks again for your real-life no, hype honesty. All the best!
Can you name/link some of the books you have created please?
Just looking into starting this. Would love a video on the tech side and software. Including book bolt as I know people use this for KDP. ☺️
Of course, I’m happy to show what I use to make my books 😊
@@Projectrichmum Please save me too. I am 61 and I have several books lying around here and I have not published them because I tried more than a 100 times and I always failed at using Canva. Everybody says it is SO easy blablabla but I didn't even get my cover right over there, from a picture I made myself. I am at a point now again that I really want and need a side hussle and it feels totally stupid and depressing that I cannot get it out there because I am a digital idiot. Thanks...!
I'd fund this incredibly helpful too 🙏❤🏆
New to KDP... Thanks for the honesty!
Congratulations on your success with KDP and thank you for the update!
Thank you 😊
Hi can you please tell me how you find your 7 KDP keywords?
I would like to buy one of your books. Where can I buy them?
thankyou mam for your honest suggestions... this is very very useful video and you are so so beautiful mam.
I want to find your books but cant find them anywhere. Do you have a link to your page?
Thank you for your honesty.
Can you do a video on how to create High Content E-Books, step by step?
This is awesome :) I've looked into copyright of artwork and such - how does this work? MY books are colouring books with illustrations all made by myself.. I've read that UK copyright is free and in effect as soon as you put pen to paper with any work you do. Is this right?
Hi Gem, I like your channel, and I wanted to see some of your books you have published on KDP, BUT I cannot find one! Why dont you just post a link here so they are easy to find. I am interested in your children books, because I have a little daughter. Where are they?
Thanks for being so honest and transparent. I wondered if you run ads at all.. If so, what percentage of your revenue would that be.
I’m not running any at the moment but I will be in Q4. When I’ve run them in the past I’ve honestly only ever made a small profit but that’s more about me needing to learn more about advertising (E.g I spent £400 and made £460). But, it helped to get the books ranked higher in search after.
Hey Gemma , good video as always. Im thinking of writing a seriea if childrens books based around approx 6 characters. My issue is illustrating it myself. Id love a video on what you use for illustrating using the same characters over and over in various activities/poses 🙏💕💕💕💕👀👀👀👀
Have a look of fiver for illustrators!☺️
Hi Gemma, thanks for being encouraging as well as real! I have a pen name related question - I’m writing under a pen name with a self publishing name which will also be the name of my author business for the tax office, website etc. I read that on receipts etc sole traders have to print “their name” and then state “trading as …company name”. I’m just wondering if it’s legal to use a pen name on this paperwork. I know setting up as a Ltd company would solve this but it would be just a start up so sole trader seems more sensible cost wise.
I have just started KDp. I am aiming to make some journals to start off (to get comfortable with canva )for about 2 to three months and then will switch over to stuff like medium content books and stuff.
Just wanted to ask do you do kindle or paperwork .
How much profit percentage you keep on your books.
In which market do your books sell best?
Thank you for this update. May I ask how on earth you created SO many books? Did you think it all up?
A strategy I like to use a lot is to come up with a concept and then create similar books but change the theme. For example a story about a caterpillar, I might make a similar one about a ladybug, then a butterfly. That way I’m not starting completely from scratch each time.
Goodness! Thank you for that - I am blown away that you are so transparent on your channel. Can't thank you enough, @@Projectrichmum
saw your previous video 2 years ago how many years have you been doing it ? 1600/m is not bad honestly.
Do all of your she's come through organically through Amazon search? You said in the first KDP video you're not using ads?
It took me about half way thru the video to realize you're talking about physical books, not ebooks. Does that mean its really an investment type of income rather than just passive or semi-passive? Im assuming theres overhead costs to have the books actually made. Is this included in your prices? Is there some kind of monthly fee that comes with having your books printed?
KDP takes 60% Royalty + Fixed Cost. Holy Cow
Do you think people will still read books in the next years?
I published one book a few months before you published your first video, and managed a whopping 4 sales in about 12 months! 🤦♂
Yeah, a lot of the sales I've made have been helped by a huge dollop of luck. Making the right thing, at the right time.
@@Projectrichmum I think I'd probably have more luck if I made more than 1 book too :D
Might increase the odds slightly 😂
Hi.. if books blocked .. where can I contact to amazon kdp ?
Did Amazon send you an email to say it’s blocked? If not, you can log into your KDP dashboard, go to help then contact us
Hi Gemma from Australia. DO you recommend ebooks or paperbacks? I am just beginning this journey,
Hi! In most cases I’d say paperback. I’d be inclined to go ebook if it was a novel or smaller educational book e.g The basics of email marketing. Purely because if I created the latter and it had a page count of 120 it wouldn’t look very substantial in physical print. The ebook price could be less making it appear much better value to the customer. Hope that helps 😊
So … do you earn more now by being a RUclips content creator or by being a Kdp publisher ? I ve found you originally through that first kdp video a year ago and have loved watching your journey so far. Very inspiring 😊
Thank you. It can vary month to month but right now it’s KDP.
I just replied to you thanks
Do you use multiple pen names?
Yes, I do.
@@Projectrichmumwhy do you think it's a nice idea? I am also thinking to do it
Music is too loud
Have you tried AI?
I use ChatGPT regularly but not for the creation of my books. I just prefer to do it myself.
@@Projectrichmum how long did it take for you to learn storytelling?
