The funny thing is, people can say what they like about Andrew Garfields Spider-man. They can say he is too cocky and that's not who spider-man is etc etc. But I think the reason why NWH is seen as a resurgence is because he generally seems the most vibrant Spider-Man out of all 3. And the character is written exactly the same way as in his movies also. And it took putting the 3 together to actually see that because people were comparing an expectation. I have seen many different takes on Spider-man and his wit and attitude is rarely set by an expectation. Same by the villain designs which is constantly evolving to this day. When people say they hated how he went back on Captain Staceys word. Well yes because have come to expect peter parker to mess up and suffer. that seems to be his source of his stories. As for the geeky and shy side of Peter Parker. i think that varies tbh in all forms of media. Garfield is basically an awkward outsider which works for his version of Spider-man. Tom Holland's peter is not that geeky or Shy, he is more like a excitable kid, which works for his version of Spider-man. And Tobey was fairly cliche 1960's mixed with 90s geek which yeah works for his I guess.
One thing that I have always felt Tobey Maguire's portrayal of Spider-Man fell short was the fact that he lacked a bit on the wisecracking and that snarkiness the character is well known for; Andrew Garfield was not only able to bring that into his take on the character, but also pulled it off quite nicely (at least in my opinion). Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy was also quite superb. Too bad the other stuff in this movie didn't work out quite as well, but still a decent film.
Yes Andrew's Peter is totally and yes totally different from comic book's Peter but he was convincing as the movie version of Peter. He was suitable as Peter and he did his job but it's only the director and the writer's fault.
My exact take. I always said that Andrew is the perfect Spider-Man, but Tobey is a better peter. Holland... Is a different character entirely... Which is what it is...
The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth AVI ARAD on the other hand, just wanted to use the movies to sell toys Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of this movie Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise again Spider-Man was nothing without her
Andrew Garfield was a fantastic Peter Parker/ Spider-Man, Rhys Ifans was great a Doctor Connors, and Emma Stone was good as Gwen stacy. It's the same way I never got to see her in the spider-gwen suit.
These movies have their ups and downs, but I think these movies have the most impressive we swinging. I mean the first practical web swing in the first film & the spectacular opening scene of the second are two of the best web swings of all time
I LOVE the suit in Amazing Spiderman...it was a cool take. Spidey has had a lot of different versions of the suit in the comic books. So I really enjoy the variations in each incarnation, it's part of the fun of a new version! For example, Miles Morales's suit is awesome as well...probably one of my faves...along with Holland's Iron-Spidey suit! ❤️🕸🎬😋👍
The Lizard's face is just too flat; it needed to be more elongated. It just doesn't work as it's pretty much just a CG human, but with scales, an oddly protruding mouth, and weird eyes.
Whenever I see someone talk bad about the tasm 1 suit, I immediately know they don’t understand that movie. That suit is one of the best spiderman suits ever, and it’s the best redesign we’ve gotten
I didn't love or hate Garfield's Spiderman. The movies were fun and perfectly enjoyable and I never understood the flack he got...the writing was decent, the acting was fantastic...I was surprised and bummed to see him replaced before a 3rd film. I'm a Spidey fan, and I very much liked Garfield's performance, actually a bit more-so than Toby Maguire. ❤️🕸🎬👍🕸
The main problem with Andrew was that his version came across as a bully. As a starting point, that's fine, yet I never felt he matured to a point that he embodied the friendly neighborhood spider that believed that with great power comes great responsibility. I blame the script and direction more than his performance.
I agree, 100% I did not like his Spider-Man because it came across like he was too arrogant and cocky. Peter Parker at his core is an awkward yet respectable person who fought criminals, but kept his awkwardness along with beating criminals with his intellectual approach to things I never got that with Andrew Garfield Spider-Man I don’t blame that on him. I blame that on the direction and the writer.
Andrew Garfield was a great Spiderman, but it is hard to believe he would be bullied and ostracised in his take on Peter Parker. It's a pity the movies weren't the best. The Amazing Spiderman felt like a slighty too soon remake of Sam Rami's Spiderman with a somewhat different ending while The Amazing Spider Man 2 was bloated and overstuffed and felt like it was emphasising its franchise plans for the future at the expense of telling a good story. The great cast deserved better.
Peter's high-school life could've been more convincing if it hadn't been portrayed in such a mean-spirited way Most of the students were portrayed as being successful in more ways than he is, and bully him just to make us feel sorry for him, because "everything will work out for him in the end" I mean, no teacher or adult was around when everyone was gathered to see Flash torturing that kid or beat up Peter, and they only show up to punish Peter Usually, a mean-spirited story is the result of lazy writing And the movie had solid writers
Exactly. Why was Peter punished for humiliating Flash when Flash was torturing that kid and bested up Peter? There’s like no proper discipline at that school.
In my opinion, The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel were both underrated. It’s weird that it’s been 10 years since ASM2 released and it barely made it to the 10 highest-grossing movies of 2014, but wasn’t the hit that Sony had promised due to massive production issues and the ongoing Sony Pictures e-mail hacking scandal that doomed the film. I hope that Sony should learn a valuable lesson from 10 years ago.
@@Zombiesnyder13 it’s the movie’s underperformance at the box office that Sony scrapped plans for a third Amazing Spider-Man movie. Also, that Sinister Six movie that they’re planning, it’s definitely not going to happen after Madame Web bombed.
Are you going to do a video on the second one? The movie itself isn't my favorite, but the opening of Spider-Man in that glorious costume (minus the spider logo being too damn low) fighting crime in that car chase quipping all the way was pure Spider-Man goodness IMO. I really thought Andrew was one of the best parts of No Way Home. Had Sony not botched everything trying develop a Sinister Six spin-off, his movies could have been a lot better.
I love that movie. Though I don’t think any of the actors has captured the Peter Parker I know and love I do appreciate their takes on it. I think it comes down to whether they’ve done it with respect for the source material and they’ve all done. The whole teams. I believe it as I watch it. Like a fairytale. Hahaha I’m so stoned right now 😂
You know those old comics panels being displayed throughout the video for the sake of style? Well, when one actually reqds those comics they'll see that Spidey wad always a jerk to cops and criminals alike. He used to tell officers how they should do their jobs, and he'd leave criminals hanging in all sorts of places as a joke. The wit he used (not sarcasm or snark - WIT) was corny, like dad jokes. Clever occasionally, but always corny. Puns, light jabs etc. Garfield's Spidey portrayal was much more accurate than Tobey or Tom. Tom runs his mouth constantly like a sitcom character (or social media influencer, which makes sense, it's just different), and Tobey's was subdued a good majority of the time, with occassional flourishes of wit and personality. Andrew's Spidey was natural in every setting, which is odd for teen Peter, but great for college Peter. The relationship with Emma's Gwen was ten times better than the chemistry of the MCU flicks, and the Raimi flicks combined. Matter of fact, I say Dunst and Maguire had no chemistry in any of those movies (Ursala, tho🤔). Zendaya and Holland have the chemistry of two platonic friends, which is fine.
I seem to be in the minority of people who actually really like the costume from the first movie! It actually looks homemade, and while the suit from the sequel does look great, I do think it's a shame that it was a complete redesign rather than an evolution of the first one.
OK, people don’t seem to get it just because he skateboarder doesn’t mean he was cool. This movie came out when I was in high school and there were a lot of skateboarders including myself and we considered “cool” kids and if you look closely at the film, he’s not cool. Either people are blocking his locker. They don’t know his name and he’s not too cool for school. If your parents abandoned you, would you really be the most social person and the clothes you were does that really seem likesomething a popular kid will wear skinny versus a plain T-shirt and sweatpants and a green jacket very stylish
Alright i wasnt going to comment anyrhing angry but... dont hate on the TASM 1 Suit 😂❤ the story is heavily inspired by Ultimate Spider-Man as well. Most of the issues you brought up about the TASM universe are things brought from the Ultimate series 😆
The first amazing Spider-Man wasn’t too bad. The second one was one of the worst movies of the entire series. Thats the problem I had with the movies is that they made Spider-Man out to be the cocky, arrogant superhero, and that just wasn’t what Spider-Man was ever meant to be, I think Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire got the character right in terms of Who he is inside an awkward guy that just so happens to have the superpowers to help people and fight Criminals.
He was not the best Spider-man (that's Tobey), Garfield was good, though he was too old, but those two movies were the best Spiderman movies. Webb's direction was the best, the cinematography, the tone, the villains were ok and it should have got a chance to conclude the trilogy. Holland was excrement and those movies are 🤢.
Probably a really unpopular opinion, but I don't like TASM 1 at all, and I actually thought TASM 2 was better while still not being great. Andrew Garfield was good though.
The film was definitely very boring. It was boring back then and even now. Andrew did his job very well but Marc's direction just didn't worked out. And yeah the humour and quips just didn't land for me. Again it's not Andrew's fault.
I have told people since this came out. I like this movie, I never said it was a masterpiece or anything like that. But I thought it was a good movie though. Wasn't a fan of the 2nd one.
No this movie was rated just fine. People need to take their nostalgia glasses off from No Way Home. Andrew was great, but the movies themselves sucked.
Underrated? Not at all. He was the worst one. It's not even close. He was arrogant, used his power for personal gain or gratification and took his mask off in front of people at every opportunity that presented itself. I'd rather have an almost 30 years old Toby Maguire playing a 17 year old any day of the week or an 18-19 year old Tom Holland who looks 12.
Andrew Garfield is okay. I think he did better in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, so with the right material. But AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is still boring, and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is too much of a bloated mess to be boring.
I like how they make the swings with practical effects
They made Spider-Man look more real

"HELLO... PETER!!"
Andrew is the Spidey I could most relate to… I wish I could be as nerdy as Tobey… I can be charming/quippy like Andrew tho.
