Instagram photos in Paris aren't hard to get, the city is loaded with good shots, but there are some tricks to get photos in Paris with fewer tourists milling about in the foreground. Here are the locations we went to in order to avoid the crowds:

Pont de Bir Hakeim (Rarely crowded, but early is best): goo.gl/maps/85ZWpg2aNEC2

My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.

Jay, great suggestions for my upcoming Paris trip and good job in incorporating more time for friends into your life.
Trying to =)
Great Vlog! You also settled the great debate of waking up early during our upcoming trip, so thanks for that. 😉 Great photos, too. Looks like you had a good visit with great friends, so thanks for sharing. 😊
It all depends on how much quiet space you want for yourself =D
this was so helpful, keep up the great content coming
Thanks! And will do for sure =D
So excited for the guide!
Chunking away at it 😂
Loved this Jay. Thankyou
My pleasure! =D
I'm happy to say, I stopped at every spot you mentioned during our visit in June. Btw: your vlog about the metro was very helpful too. Thanks, Jay!
I'm glad they were so helpful! =D
Big help for those advices, thanks man! I'll make all that happen on November...
Have fun!
Great video. One of the best ones yet.
Thanks! =D
great videos - thank you! we are coming to Paris in 2 weeks time - can't wait. please can you post link to music from dyalla you used in this video - i looked but can't find it :)
Great photographs!
Right? They're solid.
Ahhh, I just left Paris on Sunday
Definitely missed a lot of these shots !
You'll just have to come back to get them =D
I just arrived to París yesterday and I'll be living here for a year i'm so excited!!! Loved the vlog❤️
Glad you liked it! And welcome to Paris =D
Me to!! I am studying abroad here from Canada! :) It will definitely take me some time to not feel offended when others don't smile back on the street... they must think I am odd! It will also take me some time to stop doing that, haha!
@@vanfordbeauty1 haha thats weird like everyone has been nice to me on the street🤔😁
Julia chulman nobody has been outright rude, but it’s a lot different from where I am from where you smile at each person you pass on the street. Just culture differences that I will have to get used to, neither good nor bad 😁
I miss Paris already!
It misses you too =D
Great tips as usual! I recommend not visiting France in August (or July). Packed with tourists and most of the locals are on vacation. Lots of things are closed. Flights and hotels are very expensive, too. If you have a choice late May or early June, and September are best. That said, every month is a good month to visit France.
😀👍 Good advice
Any affordable area of hotel you recommend?
Yes, we visited Paris in June . July is super grounded and expensive.
Awesome!
😀👍
Merci
This will be so helpful in a month. Because if it isn't on Instagram....it didn't happen. :-)
4:03 Best news ever. I am glad the city wakes up late....I wake up early - can't wait to capture the city in the morning.
Early risers get all kinds of nice empty spaces in this city. Just gotta wait to get your coffee ;)
Very fun
📸👍
GREAT VIDEO!!!! and i agree do not go to Paris in August. Besides prices always go down by 1/2 after Sept 2 from USA to Paris.
=D
We must have just missed you at Notre Dame. We will take your advice when we go to Sacre Coeur.
I hope you enjoy exploring it!
Nice video
Puxan takes amazing photos!! They all look so well composed, is he a professional photographer?
He is a professional photographer, yep! Travel and food - he's excellent.
Hello Jay! Again, a very useful video.
Can you make a video on french etiquettes?
Do you hug someone when you meet them the first time or shake hands?
Funny you should ask because someone just left a long comment about this on another video. Basically never hug French people unless you're married to them or someone just died, haha. When you meet for the first time, as a woman, you'll basically bisous with everyone you're introduced to by friends (light air kisses while touching cheeks, one for each side in Paris) and smile nicely at people you just meet as you go. As a man, if in a social setting where people know each other, I shake hands with men I meet for the first time and bisous with the ladies (number one perk of living here). But if you're just meeting someone like a clerk in a store or striking up conversation on the metro, no touching haha
Hahaha...I am going to be keep this in mind. Thanks a lot!!
My hotel was near bir hakiem! (however you spell it)...i should have went to the first spot, thats where they filmed a bit of this last Mission Impossible movie too. I do think Montmartre will forever be one of my favorite places in Paris.
When Laura gets back we're thinking about doing a "locations from Mission Impossible" trek through the city =)
Jay Swanson that would be so cool! I'd love to know what bridge that was they met under. Yea, when they flew that drone, i was like..WAIT! They can't do that, Jay said it wasn't legal! But they did a lot of illegal things in that movie didn't they ? Haha
I picked a hotel by the Trocadero so I could try and drag myself out of bed early on some December morning, get that perfect shot, then maybe go back to bed? (Nah!) I wasn't sure if I made the right choice (there were just too many) but after seeing this video, I'm happy I did.
PS. Thanks for the tips and awesome shots! I'll go find you guys on IG.
That's a good strategy, especially if mornings are rough =D
thanks for the vids! they're getting me ready for my trip to paris.
I'm glad to hear it! Be sure to keep your ears open for the game I'm putting together too =)
I'm going to be in Paris for a few days in about a month, staying on Ave. Kleber. I am sooo excited after watching this video, because I'm a morning person, and on east coast time I'll probably be awake at 3am. Maybe I'll try for one or two spots for tourist-free photos every morning! Thanks!
You'll be able to snag all kinds of great photos I'm sure =D
I'm going to study in Paris this year, I'm so excited! What tacos restaurant was that? Would you recommend it?
You'll have a blast! It was Candelaria and I love it
Puxan. I peep that Peak Design bag. 👍
He's got class for days
nice vid man! I noticed your "grumpy" friend has so much in his back... was it a tripod? were you able to use it? is it allowed in Paris? thanks!
Hey Jay, have you been to Disneyland Paris? Thoughts? Or have you heard if it's worth it ? We'd be doing it our last day in Paris.
I've been to exactly zero Disneylands, sadly
@@JaySwanson Ditto! Well you can come with my friends and I in May and the bike tour in Versailles we're going thanks to your video, so I'll let them know. Thanks.
Thanks for the vid Jay. What time of the day did you arrive at the Eiffel Tower?
As early as you can stand it ;)
I’ll be arriving in November (23) won’t have the crowds but will have the cold. I imagine the experience will be somewhat different. Can you point me in the direction of previous postings addressing travel in the city in the Fall? Also, part of my time I will be solo. Safety?
If you go back to last fall you'll find plenty of useful tips and insights I'm sure 😀 Just try searching for various topics on RUclips with my name at the beginning, like "Jay Swanson is Paris safe" brings up this: ruclips.net/video/lQ7dmnNpIVQ/видео.html
Hi Jay! at what time did you guys go to the Eiffel Tower? I'm going on May and I am hoping I can get a couple of decent pictures :)
May's a great time to visit!
Dude, I guide to Paris would be amazing
On the way!
Sooo around what time was it when you were at the Trocadero place taking the Eiffel Tower photos?
As early as sunlight permits =D
Visiting Paris next month march. Any tips? Hoping for fewer tourists..🤞
Tons of tips! I've made a bunch of videos about things to do while you're here like this one: ruclips.net/video/wqp56lWlJWU/видео.html And I wrote a guide on the city with all of my recommendations which you can pick up here if you like: bit.ly/ParisVloggersGuide
And here's a playlist of lots more videos: bit.ly/FrenchFridayPlaylist
When in Montmartre go say hi to my good friends from Aus Will and Di , they have Hardware Societe cafe and are good friends of Foxy. They also get there coffee from Padre in Australia sent over and is one of the best coffees in town. Tell them I sent you :)
Yeah, Hardware Society is really fun (the view from the back is worth a timelapse as well 😜)
Hey Jay...In about a month I'll be in Paris for a five days... I would love to see some street art. I know there are a few good ones. Maybe you can do vlog 'bout them. Coffee and pastries on me :)
I've got one on Invaders here for you: ruclips.net/video/nxwt_EA0xbY/видео.html - and the 13th (along line 6) is famous for its massive murals. Some more info on that along with plenty more in my guide if you want to grab a copy bit.ly/ParisVloggersGuide
Thanks Jay. Keep it up. Love your stuff. I'm almost done watching your vlogs. Started with the touristy, 'guidey' ones, but now I'm hooked.
Coffee and Train ticket, sounds like Mr. Puxan owes someone a beer
NO KIDDING 🍻
the thumbs up is for poor Ruben - some of us are not morning people :-)
I was sad to see the carousel at Eiffel Tower has replaced the little pony on top with a round ball. I hope that is just a temporary measure (maybe getting repaired) and will be back someday.
Pardon... Is that an In-N-Out sticker on that coffee canteen?!? #SoCal represent! =D
West Coast = Best Coast 😜
Hi Jay, I'm coming to Paris in September with my kids...Do you do tours, I mean as a service?
I don't, but the bike tours I used to do are phenomenal for families - bikeabouttours.com - just let them know I sent you when you reserve! 😃 🚲
Perfect!, thank you :) #JaySentMe
Jay what time were you up? It didn't look that early!
Something like 7am I think? It's been a while
I'm in paris now and I was wondering which train station was it to see that specific view of the Eiffel Tower. Thank you!!!
Trocadero for the first shot with the courtyard, and Passy or Bir-Hakeim for the bridge shots, all Line 6.
Thanks Mystery Man ;D
feel like i'm talking to a friend every morning before i go to work.......!
What time did you force him to get up? What time is Sunrise there?
We were up at like 6:30 or so 🤪
Jay Jay .... watched it again... are you going to do the thieving vlog? Are you talking about pickpockets and scams? Please add the most likely areas.... besides TE and Montemarte? I heard Pignal is a bad area for tourists, is that accurate? I watched a ton of vids tonight, (while painting)...including the ones with Cheryl and Andrea. You guys are a plethora of amazing info. I almost wanna download ALL the vids so I have interesting stuff to watch on my 12 hour flight to Paris! LOL. not kidding. It’s a tad difficult weed out any since you always hit upon some interesting tidbit in every vid. BTW.... I actually thought you shaved from the intro. Tricky tricky. LOL.
I am already up and at work by then.. Lol.
4:10😂😂
And what ever smell that is 😹 I love that parc behind the sacre coeur many hours reading there
It's a nice one.
👍❤️😃🍒🙋
Also..a video on things to avoid in paris. I know that there are a lot of pickpocketers there.
I wrote all about pickpockets in my guide (and tons of other scams) here: bit.ly/ParisVloggersGuide - I should add a section on etiquette for the next update for sure.
lol how did you get girl scout cookies
how early is early for Trocadero? he he
At 38k views this one is so far out of the background level of views. ;)
Go to Disneyland Paris
This is boring stuff
Good stuff! How about include places to stay while visiting Paris? 😁
😀😀👍
