Creo Parametric - Part-Level Simplified Reps

In anticipation of Creo Parametric 7.0, this tutorial shows how to create Simplified Representations at the part level, using the Features, Work Region, and Surfaces options. Part-level Simplified Reps will be used in conjunction with Multibody Modeling.

I use simplified reps mostly for sheetmetal instead of instances because they are a nightmare to copy. It would be great if PTC would take simplified reps serious in future releases because they could be so much more powerful and user friendly.

In what way do you want them to take them more seriously? Did you participate in the PTC Technical Committee meetings with the PTC product managers today?

@@CADPLMGuy Ive given up trying to give feedback to PTC years ago when I posted all issues on the PTC CREO modelling forum and never got any reponse other than from other users. Also trough our reseller in the Netherlands never any response. Dont get me wrong Im a happy advanced Creo user for over 10 years and I have lots of ideas which would greatly improve workflow for product engineering.

@@bjpastoor I caution you not to think PTC is static. Just like all companies, there are new product managers all the time. Just because a previous one didn't listen to you doesn't mean that a current one won't. The previous product managers were incredibly accessible IMHO, but the current crop are stupendous. Michael has implemented one of my suggestions from Creo 5.0 in Creo 7.0. Don't give up.

Is there a way to only *include* features in a simplified rep that are by default suppressed? ie - Threads in a downloaded mcmaster carr part that we extrude over. I'm trying to find a method analogous to how Configurations work in Solidworks. Or rather, please advise the best way to defeature imported geometry hah :)

I advise people not bring in fasteners from McMaster Carr at all (but it still happens all the time). Even without the threads, the fasteners contain too much geometry. You can model a fastener with 2-3 features.
I recommend using Flexible Modeling tools like Remove to take out unnecessary detail like threads.
And there are better tools to handle McMaster Carr parts in SW than Configurations.

Just checked and it is not possible to select bodies when creating the simp rep ... that's a shame because it would make it possible to create single component drawings from the seperate bodies as you would do with an assembly drawing ...

Why not just hide the bodies in the particular drawing view using layers?
