Mate, your GCR videos, like Middy Explores, are amongst my favourite of all the videos out there. I know I'm not the only GCR-obsessed person out there, but I would love to walk as much on the route as possible some day. Hope you continue your GCR explore north of Nottingham...
Of course it has a future just a shame about the nimbys in the new houses ,who forget this line was here before their grandparents were born , i can see their point but if locals set up a snack place, coffee shop etc' it would bring in dosh for the local economy
It has no future as a railway station as far as the current railway are concerned. Why? Well there's no parking for vehicles for a start plus when the railway reopened to Loughborough junction they made an open promise to the locals that trains would only pass through and not stop there.
We stopped on a train once here to let some permanent way staff off. Also heard rumour once it cannot reopen because there is not safe access from the road.
The road under the bridge could be reduced to single flow with traffic lights controlling and a safe entrance corridor made easy enough , the parking though would obviously need some available space nearby . Nothing that couldn’t be overcome if enough people would benefit from a stopping service there, and surely the nimby’s houses would go up in value if they had a train connection?
Yay! My photo made it onto the video! The "308" in my username comes from bridge 308 at Rushcliffe Halt, as at the time I was a sort of stationmaster / grounds keeper there.
@@WobblyRunner Thanks - I've actually got loads of 20 year old Rushcliffe Halt photos you're welcome to consider including in the RH video, including gypsum traffic / loco and stock deliveries? Let me know and I'll stick them someone for you. Edit: Doh, just spotted I'm way too late! :)
Short but sweet at a Station that still has potential but sadly not much of a future. You rightly point out the lack of space around the Station area, but I'm thinking it could be a stop for photos on the platform, it could be done up nicely like Rothley or Quorn, I'd also love to see the entrance opened again which could be made safe by putting up some railings at the edge of the path.
I can't get used to your new username 😄. We'll have to see what develops at East Leake. Will be great to stand on the platform next to a train some day.
Great little video Paul. What a shame its not going to reopen especially as its survived so well. As the disused bridge has survived is there enough room for double track past the housing estate
Rumour has it that when they demolished the platform buildings, they bricked up the roadside lower entrance and tipped the rubble down the staircase to fill it to platform level? if that is true, imagine what you might find if you dig it out?
Unfortunately lack of space and infrastructure as mentioned is the main reason for no development of the station. Once the railway is back I’m sure negotiations with British Gypsum will be held. We work on keeping the railway in good condition every Sunday and are based at Rushcliffe Halt.
Nice one Rob. Rushcliffe Halt was looking beautiful when we popped in on our way past. I can't wait to see trains passing eachother there in the future. 👍
@@WobblyRunner Thanks, Rushcliffe is a real gem of a place, come back when trains are back up and running and hopefully the signal box will be restored soon as well.
Of all the 4 stations on the Nottingham side, East Leake is the one that fascinates me most for just the reason that it would be amazing to reopen, but it will never happen. There is simply no infrastructure to support tourism, at least not without encroaching on the residents. In their place, I would also object to expansion. But I could see 3 things that could happen. 1: If the east bridge ever gets deemed unsafe for use, I could see them simply realign the track to go over the west bridge. 2: They could simply lay track on the west side and install a second passing loop, but I think that is unlikely for a multitude of factors (not least increased noise pullution and the fact that Rushcliffe Halt already has passing capabilities). 3: They could reopen the platform for a limited group (no more than 10-15 persons + 1-2 staff for safety) of Photographers/trainspottters that pay a fee to be there for a set amount of time.
A nice insight and summed up well. I think you're right though. I do hope they can make use of the platform in some way. I can think of a few other heritage railway stations where there's no parking or great access, but I suppose it's different to start from scratch with reopening permission.
I'm so pleased that eventually the NIMBYs will be treated to running trains, steam, smoke, diesel smoke, clickety clack, horns, whistles & chimes. If any of them don't like that then they shouldn't have bought a house next to a railway line.
A great video again what great workmanship we had back then keep showing us the bridges and blue bricks Paul.
Cheers Chris. Plenty more to come 😊👍
Hi Paul, Really enjoying the series. Very enjoyable 😊
Thanks very much. Plenty more to come 👍😊

Yep, plenty more GCR stuff I plan on doing. Me and Jim are already making plans for our next jolly.

Would love this station to reopen. But when there is Rushcliffe Holt just down the road I doubt it. Great video, thanks.
Rushcif hault will be a request stop I think I’m not sure

Short but sweet...
👍
The road level arch where one went either up or down to the island platform was a trademark of the GCR and,I think, unique to this railway?

🙂 I suppose the posibility is there. Would they have to get planning permission? There is a passing loop about a mile up the track though.

Reminds me of Finmere Station
Is there no freight traffic on the line now ? Does the British Gypsum platform factory at Hotchley Hill not have any trains anymore ?
Not for a few years now Sam. I believe 2020 the freight stopped.
The DSG trains came from Drax power station. As Drax no longer uses coal, there won't be any more DSG trains.

The graffiti on the viaduct is awful
All this needs to have been demolshed a lot more thoroughly. All this stuff about reopening is preposterous.

I have to agree this railway was built before even there dads lives let others have their fun while you had yours.👍
To be fair to the NIMBYs, the line was "permanently" closed for a long while. But anyone who moved in in the last 20 years - no excuse.
