That's kinda unfair, don't you think? Those iPhones looked to be mostly iPhone 3 variations, which are very cheap to buy on eBay or something. They don't even have to work - only the the one iPhone 6s it's protecting. You could probably get alot of nonfuctional iPhone 3's for around 700$-1,500, maxing around 2,500$.

And this Probably cost less than $2000 anyway. They're blowing up 50 cracked/scratched/broken pre-iPhone4s. It's only $30,000 if they were new, and it was 5-10 years ago. This is also assuming that they were $600 new. Except they weren't. Back then, the iPhones were $200-300.
You can buy these in working condition for $30 ($1500 for 50 working models!) - clearly even less for phones in this condition...
