Japanese here. Thank you for the English sub. I’m pretty sure the ‘intent’ of the scene with 3 high school uniformed boys is: Boy 「I like your (smile)」 (mischievously flirting) Protagonist (feeling the intent, shies away) Senpai 「Are you really READY to ask her OUT?」 (Are you committed to ask out an older lady, boy? in a nice professional tone, using a restaurant jargon) Omochikaeri is sometimes euphemistically used for forming a private couple after a more public group gathering (but not a decent usage). In this case it fits the restaurant dictionary so I think it’s considered a wise response. Senpai assign! = Well done, senpai! My ¥2😊
Anime adaptation has major inconsistencies with the Manga. In the manga, Cashier-chan and Burger-san are not some cutesy "Senpai" relationship, but instead they are competing rivals in the restaurant, which actually turns out to be a secret huge mecha-ninja-agent academy. Burger-san should have been using his ビッグマック神 stand against the forces of The Burger King.
