  • Otto Porter Jr led the NBA in 3 point field goal percentage for most of the year. His effective field goal percentage was 60.8%, better than Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyle Lowry, and Klay Thompson. That EFG % was so good in fact, that the only guys ahead of him were pure centers, whose field goal percentages were buoyed by lobs, and only attempting close in shots (DeAndre Jordan, Rudy Gobert, Clint Capela, and Dwight Howard). His true shooting percentage was also in the top 10 in the league (Gobert, DeAndre, KD, Jokic, Capela, Korver, and Otto were the top 7, in that order). In addition, Mr. Ottomatic had the second best offensive rating in the league overall, better than Chris Paul, the aforementioned KD, Lowry & Jokic, as well as Jimmy Butler, Mike Conley, and Isaiah Thomas. Basically, he was a good shooter, and great in his role for the Washington Wizards’ standout season.
One of the best actions the Wizards run consistently is floppy action, which is basic in the NBA, but their wrinkle is that they’ll run parallel action for Bradley Beal, another terrific shooter, and Otto. This action almost always results in a good shot when run for long enough. Scott Brooks has done an excellent job taking the Wizards to seemingly the next level in almost posting a 50 win season and coming one quarter away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, somewhere Washington hasn’t been in 1978-79, and Otto Porter Jr. and his shooting played a substantial part in that.
