      Abbey this video is weird. Actually this whole genre of video you do is odd. Like hater energy? Also you have a big ego - you spoke like you were an authority on someones lifestyle. Not even just their food choices but their lifestyle. Odd behavior. No one said that one video is the only way to be "that girl" no one said you have to be a morning person. People are documenting what works for them. You don't need to be following behind a 20-something anyways. Obviously a single, childless, young woman has time for different things/proirties that you might.

      @@user-er2dz4ws6z can you seriously sit up here and say that?? You choose to consume the content you want. There is SOOO much out there. Like literally so much content/lifestyles.
      Also that is not disordered eating. Most people do not eat a ~perfectly~ balanced diet for every meal. That’s called life. Not an eating disorder.
      I’m a regular person who eats very similar to that. I’ve been to the doctor for physical recently - body is normal.
      Also if you consume content and feel you have to be exactly like that person or with the lense that that’s the “only” way to eat or live. 🙃 ok. Lol.

      @@user-er2dz4ws6z and for the record it IS weird af for Abbey to use this shaming and inflammatory method of reviewing girls diet with lifestyle completely different than hers and 10+ years younger to “help” them eat better and critiquing very normal food choices. It's really easy to be "that girl" when your job is to film being that girl. Influencers are doing 2 things at once. Be that girl while having to work a job that's not being an influencer. I know many people say filming adds time, which I'm sure that part of the job feels the most joby (?). Lol. But it's a different thing when you're attempting to be "that girl" in addition to being a real ass person.

      It’s the analytics and editing that take the most time; posting on social media is work! I did it professionally for companies and it’s a lot more than just filming; capturing footage is the easy part. I think we need to re-evaluate though; why don’t women with “normal” lifestyles have time to create content? Or have hobbies? I think we work too much and should analyze that instead of going after women who escaped the grind.

    RE: making your bed in the morning
    I make my bed almost every day. I understand the thinking of "why bother when it's just going to get messy later." But for me, it's 100% psychological. It takes me maybe a minute and when I walk in the room later and it looks nice and the bed is made it's a HUGE weight off my anxiety. It also helps me start the day with a "win." A tiny accomplishment where, if I get nothing else completed for the day, that task, which doesn't take me long, is reliably done. I never was required to make my bed as a kid and rarely did it as a young adult, but since making it a habit, it's been something I've really enjoyed having completed every day. But that's just me of course. Love your content so much, Abbey!

      I don't really. I fluff up my duvet, fold it in half with the top toward the foot of the bed, then fluff up my pillows. It still looks tidy and the mattress and the part of the duvet I was sleeping under can air out all day. We lose a LOT of fluid overnight even if we wake up feeling bone-dry, and a bed has to air properly. Anything else is unhygienic as heck. Plus, mites and bed bugs LOVE made beds, sealing in all that moisture. It's gross.

    I've always been an early morning kinda girl (workout, shower, cook, eat, clean, grocery shop all before 9 am). However, I feel like a lot of "that girl" videos glorify getting up early as a discipline thing like you mentioned when really it requires a give and take and a flexible schedule. If I had a job that made me work late or kids or anything that requires me to do anything after 10 pm there's no way I could have this routine. And if I go too hard on my workout I need a 3pm nap which is definitely not their version of "productive and disciplined." I'm lucky since I get to mostly make my own work schedule but for so many people it's simply unattainable.

    I don't know if I don't really understand the trend, but to me ''that girl'' just means appreciating and romanticizing the little things in life. I don't see it, that you HAVE to get up at 5, workout every day, eat cute food etc. But just applying some of theses things to your life, the ones that suit you?
    About making the bed, I guess it depends on your situation. I'm a student so I spend a lot of time in my room and it would bother me if it were messy. But if I left my bedroom in the morning and wouldn't spend any time in it during the day, I wouldn't mind the unmade bed.

    • @Diana-qp2rw
      @Diana-qp2rw 2 года назад +2

      I agree.
      Personally, I don’t think it’s a bad thing, on the contrary. Some of these little things might inspire others to integrate something that’s good for you in your life or appreciate things you have taken for granted.
      I have found a good routine for me and some things I integrated in my life and it makes my whole day better and me more happy. I get up at 7 am, make my bed (I just don’t like it when anything is messy and you have already accomplished one little thing in the morning), workout, have a healthy breakfast, go for a nice walk, draw or read a bit during the day, have a nice lunch, a run before dinner, and finish the day with a good dinner, skin care, and a nice book or movie. In between other things I have to do for university. That’s just a routine that makes me feel good and that works for me. I sometimes add little rituals that make me feel better or help me calm down, like reflecting for a minute in the evening.
      I mean, I know my routine doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me - and everyone can find those little things or routines that suit their life. Really makes you more appreciative in my opinion.

    Abbey, I appreciate this content, but really don't like the thumbnail style you're using. You overall had a really positive review of this person, but if someone just saw this thumbnail and scrolled on, they may have judged them incorrectly due to the "is this a joke??" Statement combined with your expression. I mean this in the nicest way as I can express, but I don't think this tactic suits you.

    When Emma Chamberlain said “it’s not bad to want to live a simple life” that was the validation I needed to stop trying to be “that girl.” Bc I stressed for so long trying to do so much when that just isn’t me. I don’t want to be that girl that is so busy and is doing all of these things. I’d rather do the things I actually enjoy and simply live my simple life. If anyone else is feeling this way, this is your sign to live your life the way you want, not how others make you think you should.

The problem I see as a psychologist is that most of my patients are teenagers that watch these bloggers and think their lives have to be like theirs to be successful. They compare their routines, etc to these "influencers" and they will never have the time to do all those things because normal people have jobs and or school and not all the time in the world to film the perfect edit for a video.

    It is so true, that some people are just not morning persons. I need my coffee, no people and riding my bike to the clinic. There I eat my breakfast and lunch later. I make my bed and slithly tidy up beforehand, simply because I am to tired in the evening and it is an easy task for me to slowly wake up. As I am busy all day round I need a tidy home as a safe space to calm down. But that's my way. And if I am fricking lazy one day, that's it.

I’m one of those people who actually eat keto now for weight loss but because it’s the only way of eating I found controls my debilitating migraines…trust if a beautiful creamy bowl of pasta is around I still eat it. I don’t believe in total restriction (I can’t live like that) but we all gotta do what works best for Our Own Bodies! For me higher fat just works, I think it’s sad so many women especially are showcasing such calorie restriction (I’m 4’10 and eat way more) I just more women understood that that’s not what your body needs to operate at it’s best.
    You should check out Keto Rewind. She is definitely in her struggles with diet culture, massive calorie restriction, binge and purge cycles, and it really gives keto are horrible look when some people really do genuinely feel physically and mentally better eating higher fat, yet she is starving herself and having pity parties over gaining back weight cause she restricts in such a drastic manner. Breaks my heart to see so many people starving for a number on a scale when it’s not the case. I just had my baby 3 months ago and just eat what makes me feel my best and it’s foods I love (bring me cheese 😆) . Life is meant to be enjoyed and eat what you love the massive calorie restriction is just so disturbing to watch at this point, you should check it out

    I’m sure there’s many aspects that make this trend attractive. I have pretty severe adhd and sometimes the most mundane things seem organized and well planned when I look at how someone else lives their life. I do tho watch a lot of those “I get up at 5 am” videos that come from big cities in China, Korea, Japan and other urban cities where people wake up super early to do chores before going to work. But I also understand those climates get SO HOT and HUMID late morning that most of those people do chores that early cause it’s almost impossible to wait until later when it’s 105 degrees and 80% humidity…. PLUS most of those demographics have insane work weeks. I think losing that context is what causes them to explode and seem like something one must mimic…. When I watch those videos, I keep in mind the cultural and regional aspects that are at play…Food for thought.

    I really don’t get the hate for the “that girl” trend (aside from the eating disorder and manifestation bs). If it’s not for you it’s not for you, plain and simple. I don’t see how it’s a crazy idea to live a life like this. I’m child free by choice and so I have much more time to myself and highly enjoy living an aesthetic life and making my food pretty even though the only social media I have is watching RUclips. If you’re a mom and don’t have this kind of time, that’s not everybody else’s problem to create realistic routines for you. Even if these girls don’t live their lives like the way they post all the time, if posting that type of content makes them happy then shouldn’t that be all that matters? If you’re jealous that they have this kind of time or privilege, it helps nobody to try and tell them they’re making you feel insecure about your life, and you should really be focused on trying to be less insecure and judgmental. I hate the fact that if anybody in this comment section met me, they would automatically assume I’m trying to fit the mold of that girl, when in actuality I just live my life like this and have for a long time, even before it became cool. I hate it not because I’m insecure about people disliking me, but because I think it’s a gross mentality to automatically dislike somebody off of assumptions you’ve formed from trends on social media. It’s along the same lines of disliking somebody for being vegan because That Vegan Teacher makes obnoxious content. Would it be nice to see representation for other lifestyles, sure, but hating on people who aren’t giving you that representation and are living a life that presumably makes them happy is weird

      I agree! I've been called variations on "that girl". I too am childfree, I often get up at 4:30 (it gets hot here so if I want to go for a run or hike before it heats up, that's the right time to do it), I eat very healthy, I'm a size 2 because I work very hard for it (I used to be 262 lbs, so it takes a lot of work in my case!), I live by the beach by choice. I have a chronic skin condition that means I spend a lot of time on skincare (with great results). Etc. I have worked really hard for the lifestyle I have. If other people see my lifestyle and think it's "unrealistic", that's just bizarre to me -- it's my real life, so how unrealistic can it be? It's not their life, but why would I be living someone else's life?
      This trend towards promoting mediocrity, and calling it realism, is unfortunate. There's nothing wrong with identifying the kind of lifestyle you desire and setting up your life to be that way. Wallowing in mediocrity isn't helpful.

    • @nini-qc1qd
      @nini-qc1qd 2 года назад +3

      see, the thing with your comment is that you're hating too. "Eating disorder"- eating disorder is a psychological issue (with physical symptoms, obviously) but you cannot look at one video of someone eating (or not eating) and go on claiming that they have an eating disorder. As for manifestation etc, it's like praying or/and thanking god- it either works for you or it doesn't, if it does then good and if it doesn't then maybe something else will, no need to trash on something that works for other people. (It works for me and I'm not some un-sciencey cultist, I'm a medical student at one of the most prestigious medical schools in the world). In fact, positive mindset (which manifestation is, basically) helps patients perform better during surgery as compared to those who're very scared/negative. There are things about the universe that we don't understand yet but that's how it's been since the dawn of time- everything steadily uncovers. A lot of top doctors believe in God, are they BS too? No one's asking you to believe in something, we're just asking you to be respectful.

      @@nini-qc1qd that part of my comment was worded poorly and I should have checked before posting. I wasn’t saying eating disorders were bs, I was only addressing it because Abby mentioned it almost as being part of her criteria for being a “that girl”. You’re absolutely right that you can’t look at one video and know if somebody has an eating disorder, which is why I take issue with a lot of Abbys content. My point in mentioning it was to say I don’t support EDs and I hope anybody who has one can find the support they need. When I said manifestation bs, I mean that’s how I feel about it and it’s not something I align with in the same way I don’t align with religion in any form, but I don’t care if anybody else does it because it has no effect on my life. I’m happy to hear it’s worked for you, and I hope you continue to have positive things in your life. I can think something is bullshit without holding any sort of judgement towards anybody else who subscribes to that mentality because I know we’ve all been through different things to get us to the beliefs we’ve reached. Maybe it’s different to you, but to me, saying something is bs is like saying I think fish tastes like dirty sewer water. If you like fish then great, but I personally think it tastes like trash and that’s okay too. The difference between my comment and Abby’s videos is that she actively shits on people or mocks them for doing the things that make them happy, and then she provides examples of how she’s “relatable” because she doesn’t make her bed in the mornings and her food isn’t perfect all the time. It seems very pick me and it honestly seems to stem from a place of jealousy, which is a concept I think is toxic

    I used to have the exactly the same mentality about making my bed as you - what’s the point. And there are still days like that. But since I had kids I try to make my bed for two reasons: 1. To have a flat surface to fold laundry and 2. So that if I get absolutely nothing else done that day I can’t at least say I made the bed and that make me feel good.

    I started my day with leftover pizza for brekkie so totally love the message 😅 Also, those days when you feel like IG "that girl" might be great, but also they make you feel even worse when you're not achieving all those goals. So yeah, WE ARE ENOUGH and all we can do is to do our best. And that's also enough. ❤

    Can you please cover the bean protocol? I genuinely love Unique Hammond and I understand the importance of insoluble fiber/ fully believe it's helpful with clearing a lot of imbalances. Other than that-it's restrictive and makes me anxious.

    sometimes, just getting through the day is good enough. the guilt and shame people feel from not waking at 6am after having had a terrible night sleep and being utterly exhausted and not manifesting, followed by a 10k run and yoga then eating a organic smoothie bowl with hand grown fruit, is insane. sure, if that’s what feel best to you then go you, i’m glad. i just think for the vast majority of people it is a way to feel guilty and burnt out.
