Jim, I have a Lydia too. I'm 58, and she is 55, and she still hasn't slowed down. She's still beautiful and still in perfect shape. I love what y'all are doin'!!, from up here in Mt. Clemens, MI. Skip McCain
I have been watching your videos, and I enjoy every minute. You both work so well together. Being from West Virginia, I like seeing the different home building techniques from the South. You all explain everything so well. Keep up the excellent content. Thank You for sharing your story.
Two-foot Timer Supervisor. Measure three times and cut once and always leave a little wiggle room. Great tip on the forming pin placement. Thanks for the 6mm plastic sheeting tip. Gus testing the curing time. Thanks Mr. Seth! At Christmas time my neighbor spray paints Christmas greetings on the end of hay bales and places them along the fence by the roadway.
Seth thanks for helping out Jim and Lydia...just so glad Gus did not just run across the wet concrete or Jim would need the hootis 2022 dog remove new and improved model. But we still would like to know the question of the year....yes you know the one....Lyida
A line level sure would be handily used with a good chalk line. The good old days of no laser-level builders transits but a focused optical transit, line levels, plumb bobs and chalk lines.
I love when Lydia said {YOUR }’. Are you planning for patio hangover too , it’s great to see Lydia helps the with concrete job, , if this house is lay in California, with this amazing land surrounding, this is a mansion , I love your channel , ❤
Nothing is too big or too small of a job for you both to tackle!!! That's why I love watching your video's, I'm getting real excited to see the end product, but I hope you will have other projects to start, as I have become quite used to seeing you on a Friday :):):)
One bite at a time it what we say! It would be very easy to get overwhelmed, but we just try to stay focus on the task at hand & it has work out for us so far!
You want to get a corner square, use 3-4-5. From a point at the corner. Measure 3ft up one board. Mark it. Measure 4ft up the other board. Now measure from point "A" to point "B". It should be 5ft. Adjust angle as needed
Thanks Seth and the other guys for helping make the pour a success can't wait till next week to watch the front porch come to life have a blessed Weekend Much Love From Portland Indiana
Awesome job on the concrete work! Great to see you guys doing it yourselves and showing others that it can been done. Keep up the Amazing work that you are doing and Thanks for Sharing!
Cool....kkkkk.......I was anxiously curious....I am used to the heavy raining for summer and also during the winter...we have strong reading instead of snow....and it is so strong ...I was concerned about how you would deal with the rain around the house, you also some of the strong rain as well don’t you!! 😉☺️
Hi you two Another enjoyable video That's going to be a nice big porch Can't wait to see what the overhang is going to look like. Jim I was wondering when we were going to see another hootis tool. This one looked very simple to use. And definitely cost effective. Glad you had some help One less chance to maybe mess up😀 Not that I would expect you two to. Lydia You were right in there with the rest. I don't know if you were thinking "I'm not letting them have all the fun," or not. One more step( you could look at it as a giant step) behind you. Your slab came out awesome. It is amazing what a great team can accomplish when they all work together on a common goal. Can't wait to see what is next on your agenda. If you leave the forms on and keep the concrete wet it will slow the cure and result in a much stronger slab. It takes 28 days to fully cure concrete.
Love watching you both. Been to Cajun Country many times back before i10 was built, beautiful country and the food and people were great . Miss not going back, now live in Kingman Arizona. What happened the other dog???
Thank you for watching and sharing your story!😄 He gets frightened around all the power tools. He’s still with us 😄 we are trying to get him use to everything that we do in our day to day so he can be right there with us like Gus is, but it will just take some getting use to for him. 😁
Your house is coming together nicely 👌 Looks Amazing you guys are doing a great job. Keep the videos coming I'm still watching at work while drinking coffee ☕️ Thanks again for the awesome content 👍
Steak, Eggs, fried taters and onions for breakfast and Cajun Country Livin' to watch while I eat. How can life get any better?!! Concrete looks great. Really coming together now!! See ya next FRIDAY!!
It gets to a certain point where the dry pour method becomes more expensive than ordering concrete from a supplier. For an example…. The concrete we bought for this project was $145.00 per yard with no minimum charge because we ordered a full truck. At $5.50 per 80# bag …. It would have cost $250.00 per yard if we bought bags.
You forgot the flashing, concrete should never touch the wood on a house. It's best to put down drain rock prior to the concrete pour. Also, a slab should not be perfectly level, you need a slope at 1/4" per foot away from the house to allow for drainage.
@@CajunCountryLivin Fiber cement siding (Hardie board) absorbs water which causes swelling and crumbling, and the layers within the siding begin to separate. And you guys are in an area which gets a lot of moisture. Fiber cement siding takes a lot of maintenance. And you do need flashing plus there should have been a barrier between the siding and slab.
I will give ya a A+ for winding up the string, however it’s a C for pencil catching😂😂😂😂😂😂. As for the rest of the video it was great. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!!! That looks great! I hope ya'll realize how lucky you are to find some "ripe" brick in the woods. Those things don't grow just anywhere. I know because I've looked for them.😁
Yay for porch pour!. Thanks Mr. Seth. Great job all the way around, and great video production. I would have never uncoiled the wire mesh that way, but it is obviously the best way to do it. I didn't see any paw, claw, or hand prints. How did you keep everyone/everything away? 🙃Enjoy the slab.
Awesome work guys 😊 You can always concrete cut the expansion joints. Reinforcing mesh is so strange in a roll. Ours comes in flat sheets. Remember to wet it so it doesn’t dry to quick and 28 days before putting anything heavy on it. Not sure how wet it may get, but a drain to wash/drain water from the slab could’ve been a good idea. But the three foot timer aka supervisor would had this down pat 😊❤
I love watching you guys!! So my question is, if it didn’t take so many bags of dry concrete could the dry pour method support the weight of roof you plan to build later?
Should have put in some control joints when the concrete was wet every 6 or 8 feet perpendicular to the long side (do the math to make them evenly spaced) and one at 6 feet perpendicular to the short side all the way across the 34 foot length. Concrete will crack but the control joints will hide that. Recommend renting a concrete cutting saw the type you can push. Snap some blue chalk lines to guide the machine. Don't use red chalk line, hard to remove. Once you cut the control joints, power wash the entire slab.
I'm a little concerned that you will have some rot issues with siding in the future...concrete holds a lot of moisture and I didn't see any type of flashing between the concrete and siding...
It’s not everyday you can say you covered your butt scab with a band aide!! 😂 Also are those cargo shorts available in your merch store?! Gotta have some of those!! 😂
I’m confused. Jim, from Louisiana, refers to the strang (string) as twine??!! Lydia, from Michigan, says y’all & refers to to the “twine” Southern proper as string. What’s with the dialect consternation?

I think the pushing out the 6 mil plastic roll was much easier than rolling out the wire rolls. Skinny😉
I love watching you guys!!
So my question is, if it didn’t take so many bags of dry concrete could the dry pour method support the weight of roof you plan to build later?
Was hoping for a dry cast slab.
Pourquoi ne pas avoir fait la totalité de la longueur de la maison ? Beau travail.
We wanted a step down roof. That way it will match the roof on the other porch we are adding.

a ? did you allow a 1 or 2% fall from the house out to the front of the pourch to keep water from coming back to the house

@Kolin Brown Siding is concrete also.. so no rot.
@@FrugalBuilding fiber cement siding is a wood pulp/cement hybrid, not a fully cementitious product. It is rot RESISTANT, not rot PROOF.
