Dr. Shauna Shapiro - scientist, author, and world renowned mindfulness expert - guides us at the razors edge where the science and practice of mindfulness meet. And there are few people in the world more qualified to take us there. Shauna weaves 20 years of deep meditation practice with over 150 scientific articles. She's been featured in Wired magazine, was hosted by Google, has been honored by the Dalai Lama's Mind and Life Institute, and has published multiple critically acclaimed texts including the The Art and Science of Mindfulness, and Mindful Discipline: A loving approach to setting limits and raising an emotionally intelligent child.
Dr. Shapiro will use ancient wisdom and modern science to examine the mechanisms through which mindfulness can help us change, learn, and grow. We’ll discover how a limited understanding of mindfulness as a cognitive-attentional practice can inadvertently backfire - and what we can do to manifest its true benefits.
Dr. Shapiro will introduce a model of mindfulness which focuses on the importance of the attitude with which we pay attention. When we weave together our attitude and intention with attention, true learning and transformation can take place. Finally, guided by a central theme of neuroplasticity -- what we practice grows stronger -- we will inquire deeply into the essential questions: What do we want to practice? What do we want to grow?
