As an American the concept of debt collectors are so strange. We have repo men who take back unpaid items but to go to someone home and take items to pay a debt seems so wrong.
The issue is the stuff they take only fetches 20% of its actual value so they are just wrecking your future. They'll take a £500 TV and it only knocks £100 off and it just makes the situation worse.

Not everyone in debt brings it on themselves through carelessness or being dodgy, it's amazing how quickly your life can go downhill in the real world, it doesn't take much at all.
