I really enjoyed this video and like your approach to post processing. Just a small tip on the difference between the Capture One exposure and brightness tools: watch the image's histogram while moving these two sliders. If the image has highlights near the right edge, increasing the exposure can push those highlights off the edge. Increasing the brightness usually won't do that; it moves the midtones more to the right than the highlights.
Finally, a Fuji photographer using C1 on RUclips. 😀 Great video and a good reminder to finish customising my tabs 2 years later...love the second photo especially. Thanks for sharing your process!
Literally just switched to Capture One today myself and this video couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks for this, Faizal. Taking this comment as well to say I love your work, especially how you incorporate reflections. There's something otherwordly to them.
That first photo is so cool! It looks all straight and right-on because the white crossing lines on the road line up with the bottom frame - then as you look up you start to feel dizzy a bit, I love it! An amazing experience to look at!
Wonderful lesson. Please consider doing more of these. I am interested in your technique of adding grain while so many of us are compulsive about removing grain (noise). Makes me feel that I need to do some rethinking about grain.
Not sure if you've tried it, I usually start in the Base Characteristics with selecting the PNS ICC profile for the Camera I'm using. Then I will Select "film standard" as my Curve. After that I'll edit as needed.
great video - I made the switch a couple of years ago, never looked back. For me keeping it simple is also key - but there are 3 tools where adding a little complexity is worth it: 1) Style brush presets lets you zero in on specific areas so adjustments aren't global - like masks but without the extra steps, it creates a mask, brush and layer as you go 2) Layers, so adjustments can be individually managed and layer opacity lets me tone down, or up, adjustments 3)Levels adjustment, does wonders for easily getting a good baseline for highs, shadows and midtowns, instant punch. Also the auto correct function for levels adjustment is pretty good. Also, what's your thinking about using the fuji profiles as a starting point? Me, I love it
I'm surprised you don't have layers in your Adjustment Tabs, it is such a powerful tool in C1. Also, what setting do you have to activate to show the Camera Settings at the bottom?
Thanks, this was a good watch. I've been using capture one for years now but it was helpful to see a simple workflow like this. Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed with just how much you can do. A lot of capture one editing videos out there use photos that aren't the kind of photos I take (like high fashion stuff or posed portraits) or are photos I just don't think are any good, so it's very cool to see the workflow of someone whose photos I enjoy. 👍
Bro you gotta be careful with those "hey google" commands.. My speakers straight up started yelling at me for not having smart lights.. Great video btw, I've been using C1 for a couple years and have never looked back. Awesome channel as well I'm really enjoying and getting a lot of from your videos. Thank you
Brightness increases (or decreases) the midtones curve while adjusting the shadows and highlights to a lesser degree. Also take the time to learn the shortcut keys and quick adjust keyboard keys for your primary functions such as Exposure, Hightlights, Shadows, etc...
just curious....when you are shooting street, are you shooting raw or jpg predominately? always that or what determines for you which you are shooting? And do you ever use the Fujifilm built in filters or only change in post?
I was just thinking of trying to edit on Capture One and here u are publishing this content. Thank you for making this, your process seems so simple and easy yet producing such outstanding results. I'm so gonna try editing your way! Keep up the great content!
Fantastic video and workflow! The desktop version was too overwhelming for me and I hope the rumors about iPad Pro version coming early 2022 are true… will jump on it then, and your video here will be a great flow guide for my learning Thanks
Love this video! I have been using C1 for a few yrs with my XT3. I'm curious about your B&W conversion as to why you would choose the C1 B&W panel over the film simulations available (eg Acros)?
I think I see some Cartier-Bresson influence in those images. Regarding the BW and removing color distraction: doesn't this work the other way, too? Colors can also increase the interest in a part of the image, if you want it.
Hi there. Big fan of your work. I am also a street photographer in Boston, and you highly motivated me to play with motion blur from your most recent video, and actually bought that Ernst Haas book. Thanks for everything!
Why were you shooting with the white balance so far off to begin with? Was it deliberate or accidental? I have both PS/LR and C1 but I always end up using C1 for Fuji files. Definitely my favorite editing suite.
Great video, I've recently switched to capture one, took a bit of getting used to but I'm loving it now. I'd recommend affinity photo to complement C1, an ideal photoshop replacement.
Nice edit, in the case that you want to create a preset how can you do a preset? Thanks, Yes I love Photoshop, Yes Capture one is awesome and is in certain points faster and smoother on my opersonal 25 years of use of photoshop. I really like Capture one. P.S.: I think that adobe should see as well what all the competitors are doing on the permanent plan option.
Hey Faizal, new sub here! Cool to see you using C1. Do you find the edits/presets that you make carry over well to other images and shoots? I've shot C1 professionally full time for 4 years now and to this day, still find myself going back to lightroom for certain jobs as I find the presets more flexible. I've tried to move over completely many times but just can't quite bring myself to do it.
this is a great video. Because of you i have just made the switch to C1. I have one question though. How did you get the (1) and (2) on the top left? Because the constant switching is quite annoying. Thank you in advance
Wish I could switch to capture one. Alas I am shooting film as well as digital and I am using negative lab pro to convert and edit my negatives. Sadly it only works for LR, because Capture One has very limited SDKs and the creator of NLP is unable to achieve the same results with C1. :( I pay only the Photography bundle, which isn't a lot, but I still wish I could be rid of it. Anyway, thank you for showing your process, Faizal.
Hey ..great video ..just about to start using c1 ..I like how you have simplify the workspace.. as it can be overwhelming . Can I ask how you got the white background..whilst you were editing ..ie it looked like you were working on a print .. cheers
I don't know about switching to capture one. My lightroom license costs 12$ a month and capture one costs 388$ (Canadian dollars). Does the capture one license you purchase still gets updated or are you stuck with the current version, for example capture one 22
Wait isn’t Capture One a subscription model as well? Or did you get the lifetime license for C1 22? Since C1 releases a new version yearly that requires payment for the new one, wouldn’t it be pretty close to subscription model anyway?
This is something I considered, but I used the C1 21 free trial for a month and I felt like there wasn't anything in 22 I really needed, and I don't see myself having to upgrade for a few years at least. Also got it on the black friday deal!
@@FaizalWestcott cool. I’ve been thinking of trying C1 again after many years of it using it and keep hearing that people are switching from Adobe CC because of the subscription model then saw that C1 is also subscription now unless one buys the lifetime which pretty much lasts a year. Kind of a short lifetime 😀. But I do hear what you’re saying. BTW love your videos.
Great video! I've been editing with C1 for a while and I love seeing how others use it. Under base characteristics do you usually choose "auto" for the curve when editing Fuji raw files or do you choose a Fuji color profile? Thanks!
can you please write C1 that they please add the GR3x meta files so we don't have to switch between LR and C1. Thanks. So far they are ignoring the ones that asked them to please modify the GR3 files and add the GR3x
Yeah, using raw files here. You won't have as much flexibility with controlling exposure, so you would need to nail it down pretty well in camera. Other than that, my editing approach would still apply to a jpg. I would try to shoot classic chrome if possible since it's more versatile in my opinion.
Yo why would you remove that little dot in the reflection photo!? I'm kidding, it's your photo you can do whatever you want its just that I thought it was a star which for me added this nice and very subtle otherworldly (quite literally) element to the photo! I'm 15 mins into the video (which btw loved every second of) and literally paused the video to write this comment down haha
You could use some layers for your different settings. Rgb curve does influence the colors. To get some contrast use only the luminance of the curve tool. There are also some presets in the curve tool for a good starting point.. It is easier for changing the settings of contrast. Try some local ajustments with using mask. It is real easy. Watch some vids on capture one.
Hey man would you like to have a logo for your channel? I would love to make use of my creativity to design one for you! I like the idea of form and function equally important and I will design your logo base on that ideology and your channel unique spirit too! Let me know if you interested!
While thanking for the video, it would have been better if your voice was more louder and forceful, instead of muttering and lowering down the decibel.

I recently moved to Capture One and bought the version 22. And Affinity Photo for a photoshop alternative. Saving a ton of money.

Patiently waiting for the iPad app / sync and hoping for the best 😁
Yeah, an iPad app on this would be CLUTCH
Yes Dude! I just switched to C1 recently for the exact same reason and I've been looking for quality C1 content. Great video, as usual, man.
That first photo is so cool! It looks all straight and right-on because the white crossing lines on the road line up with the bottom frame - then as you look up you start to feel dizzy a bit, I love it! An amazing experience to look at!
many thanks!
Thank you so much, I'm sure most of us would love to see more of these. Love your calm character, too!
I started to use the level tool to color grade photos. It's a doorway to another world. Try it once, you are going to love it for sure.

love the photos dude.
Brightness slider is just the midtones. Thanks. I enjoyed this!
I highly recommend using the keypad to adjust the base corrections like exposure, contrast, kelvin, tint,... It's much faster.
I use capture One. Watched to see your workflow. I tend to use layers. I only use background for the main level adj/exp or white balance.

I noticed that if you choose a Fujifilm black and white film simulation like Acros, you can‘t brighten and darken the colors in the photo.
I think I see some Cartier-Bresson influence in those images. Regarding the BW and removing color distraction: doesn't this work the other way, too? Colors can also increase the interest in a part of the image, if you want it.

Love your editing style, looking forward for the next video! :)
Shout out to naked cowboy underneath the last b&w photo
How did you get the background color to be white ?!!?
I've been editing in C1 for over a year and I swear I didn't know you could customize the tabs 😬
I think I missed it, but what did you end up using for editing video? I moved from premiere into davinci and I couldn’t be happier!
I'm on a Final Cut Pro trial right now and I'm enjoying it very much. I might end up purchasing it
Great video! I've been editing with C1 for a while and I love seeing how others use it. Under base characteristics do you usually choose "auto" for the curve when editing Fuji raw files or do you choose a Fuji color profile? Thanks!
I've been using either auto if I like it right off the bat or Astia. I usually always use astia in camera
@@FaizalWestcott got it, thanks! I'm curious too, what settings do you use to export your images?

21
thanks for turning my lamp on lol
May I ask why you do the street photography with x100v? not with a7siii? I think full frame is way better than aps-c right?
Faizal… noooo :( … Fujifilm RUclips who wants me to try out capture one? 😂
I vote yes
i like this
Sucks they don't have an Ipad app
Brightness does midtones according to the official C1 YT channel
Good to know!
Hi Faizal, nice video but to me it looked like a straight forward editing process, nothing that I would associate with creating a „film look“.
Don't you sharpen?
thank god you switched. Lightroom is Mid at this point. price to value is crazy too
🤣🤣 Google just turned all my lights on when you turned yours on🤣
whoops, but I knew that might happen and still chose to include it heheh
