From what I recall hearing, Katrine Stenbekk the singer said the song was about feeling the most alive when vulnerable and taking risks, just think of thrill-seekers for example. Sitting at the borders of safety, you are also at the borders of danger, and while you may recognize the dangers ("I see the forces, For what they truly are") it's when you face them that you feel alive ("Yet I'm reminded, Of my beating heart"). That feeling can be quite alluring, but the dangers - here portrayed by the ocean, nature and Mother Earth - they don't care about you at all, they'll chew you up and spit you out, therefore you have to be careful of them. While you may feel alive when exposing your vulnerabilities, you may also get hurt pretty badly.
EDIT: I'd add to that that this feeling is a double-edged sword. When people are highly depressed, they tend to adopt self-destructive behaviours. They want to feel pain as to not feel so dead inside. This is perfectly illustrated in the video with the guy being saved from the sea, but running back to it even if he knows it will kill him.

Hey thanks for the great insight from what Katrine said and about depression, that's awesome! That was kind of what my interpretation was but articulated much better than me

In essence, this song is about witnessing your own vulnerability in comparison to the massive forces that move the world. The video tries to convey that feeling through several intertwining narratives. The video was made by the brilliant people in Ragnarok Film and we had a wonderful time shooting it and exploring the beautiful locations around central Norway.

I took this as more of mankind's primal roots. We're safe here on land, but the ocean somehow calls to us. We know its dangerous, but we can't resist. And no matter how much we love the sea, she'll never love us like we love her. And the sea shows no mercy.

This song like many can intentionally be interpreted in several ways. One way to look at theses lyrics is from the perspective of some Pagan religions, which we now know are just the forces of nature, we fear their destructive power but long for a greater meaning to life. Our knowledge makes us safer, but the longing for a purpose is real, our thoughts and prayers go unanswered, and yet there is no mercy from mother earth. Nature is the greatest power, but it doesn't love us back.

Love Kalandra! I wonder if you have heard Aurora? The vocals of the lead singer in Kalandra some times remind me of Aurora. If you have'nt you should check her out. Please react to her song Through the eyes of a child (live VEVO UK lift) It's heaven for a song 🙂
