We have self check out here in Massachusetts. Trust me it will NEVER take the jobs from real people. There is way too much that can go wrong without personal intervention. We just use our cell phone camera to scan the items. Produce has scales that print out a bar code for any items you need to weigh. I always use this method but most people don't 😉

in the UK we have had self service scanners (smart carts) for a few years now...the novelty soon wears out, they are ok for small purchases large ones suck - we have hand held scanners now which is even better you scan, put in the bag and just pay the total at the smart carts which are brilliant :)
I really dislike how companies are taking away the opportunities for people who rely on retail work. Someone like myself doesn’t have a university education and I don’t have the mind for it. How will others like me get by if they need work? The companies just want to pay less, and charge more!

One thing I'm concerned about those smart carts is that this will affect the actual cashier jobs??? I could see this working at last resort when all the lanes are full and everyone is busy. But on the daily idk man 😕 not too fond of robots replacing humans.
I have the same concerns, also have to stop every few seconds to scan items you're picking out looks cumbersome and likely to create more aisle logjams. (Also what if you're differently abled and can't maneuver items that well?) My first gut reaction is "I hate it" lol
it depends how the company introduces the change as if they are upskilling their current work force to maintain and service the carts as well as stocking the shevles that can be a good thing... I don't think most cashiers are particularly keen to be cashiers for their whole life so a chance of training and new skills can be a positive

Perhaps they will invest in upskilling or horizontally moving workers into new positions, but that's not what historical trajectories of robotics and new technologies have shown us. Also the dystopic monitoring of what is and is not in your cart at all times is unsettling and just increases the big brother technological control over our lives.

We have handheld scanners in the US, scales in the produce to help you weigh what is needed, at end you just scan your scanner at a self-checkout spot & pay and then drop your scanner as you walk out. The self-scanner seems a lot more cost-efficient than a whole cart
I am obsessed with Caudalie’s lip balm and hand moisturizer. I first tried them when I entered their store while in Paris. And was immediately obsessed. I had to buy a set for all my family members lol. I want to try it alllll 😩

Same in Switzerland! Super fast and easy to use. We can also scan directly with the phone through the app of the supermarket, even easier!

I have never tried a CAUDALIE product but I struggle with dry skin (especially right now nearing the end of winter) and would love to try anything that will moisturize and reduce redness. ❤️❤️
I have only tried a couple of Caudalie's products, but I absolutely loved the beauty elixir! I would love to try the grape water next, or the brightening essence! they both sound fantastic hehe

We have handheld scanners in the US, scales in the produce to help you weigh what is needed, at end you just scan your scanner at a self-checkout spot & pay and then drop your scanner as you walk out. The self-scanner seems a lot more cost-efficient than a whole cart
I am obsessed with Caudalie’s lip balm and hand moisturizer. I first tried them when I entered their store while in Paris. And was immediately obsessed. I had to buy a set for all my family members lol. I want to try it alllll 😩
