    After watching your original review of this machine you inspired me to buy my first ever sxs a '21 Defender limited in blue. I use it for everything from plowing snow to spraying and mapping field boundaries. I can't believe I haven't had one this entire time! Anyway just wanted to say thank you for making these videos and I wish Can Am could give you commission because you definitely sold one to this guy.

    Great review. I’m own a 2021 defender xmr max that I bought last November. I believe it was $26k cash price out the door I paid after taxes and title and fees here in Texas but anyways i have to agree with you. Having the xmr model it didn’t come with doors a roof or windshield. I feel like for any model of any brand with a msrp of over $22k they should come with doors and a roof at the very minimum or even a sound system. I specifically wanted the xmr for the snorkels, lower gearing, the winch location and it just fit my needs. I didn’t want a limited since I knew it was gonna go to mud parks and I didn’t see a limited doing well in mud holes lol. But other than having to spend another few grand to add doors a roof and a windshield it hasn’t gave me a single issue. I love absolutely everything about it and definitely haven’t babied it much. I remember debating between a ranger and defender and definitely happy I chose the defender. Reviews like yours that really pick at the smaller things I feel like are very helpful. There are many people that look up to these reviews to help them make a pretty big decision.

      It's a shame they should absolutely come with doors. The Defender XMR is a great machine. Thank you for commenting.

    I am also an owner of a 2020 Defender Limited with over 3000 miles and about 230 hours. Almost no issues here. The only issue I have had is sometimes the engine sputters a little. Not a common thing and usually only happens before it warms up. Although one time last year during hunting season, I was driving around in the morning going about 10-15 MPH out in the wild and suddenly the engine starting sputtering badly, the throttle stopped responding, and a loud beep noise came on. A message on the display said something about an engine problem detected and limp mode was activated. I turned the machine off and waited a few minutes. I inspected the engine for anything I could see, but everything looked fine. When I turned the key, the engine started up normally and went through the rest of the day and the next 2 weeks of the season running just fine. I took it to a dealer about 2 weeks later and they did some scans that said a spark plug failed to fire on one of the cylinders. The mechanic pulled the plugs and said they looked fine, so he did not replace them. I haven't had this issue since then after a lot of driving throughout the year, over a thousand miles and a hundred hours later. Overall I really like my machine, handles 30 inch mud tires just fine, with stock suspension and I have custom installed a sound system I pieced together myself. I could not find a complete system for a defender limited besides Can Am's own Defender sound system which is crazy expensive in my opinion. I went with a Rockford Fosgate PMX-3 in the center headliner with Boss Audio 6.5" Marine speakers in the speaker cutouts (Just barely fits) and Rockford Fosgate Punch 8" self powered subwoofer under the driver's seat and a cheap rear view camera from Amazon all for less than Can Am's system.

    • @maraudermitchelli
      @maraudermitchelli  3 года назад +2

      Your engine issue is very similar to mine...spark plug ignition related, Agree with the you on the cost of the sound system, seems like you did a great job with your stereo. Thank you for sharing your issues...makes me feel I'm not alone. Ride in peace please.

    Looking for your feedback. I grew up on sport ATVs and thought I’d like to make the leap to a RZR or X3. Then I drifted to the General or Commander. But then saw and sat in Defender and fell in love. I think in reality, I’ll do more of what you do (touring around my farm). But wasn’t sure if you could trail ride it or not.
    How do you enjoy the Defender relative to a more sporty SXS?

    According to my dealer you're NOT supposed to ethanol free gas. This is a FUEL INJECTED engine and is supposed to use 87 regular like most cars do. The ethanol free is for CARBURATED engines, not fuel injected ones. The ethanol causes problems for only carburetors. According to my dealer people cause problems to their Can-Am by using ethanol free gas. Its not programmed for that.

    • @maraudermitchelli
      @maraudermitchelli  3 года назад +2

      Gary, no disrespect to you I don't agree with your dealer or Can Am. My dealer told me Can Am recommends 87 octane fuel as they believe high octane fuel or non ethanol fuel goes stale in gas station tanks as it's not used as frequently as 87 octane fuel. If Can Am engines don't run correctly on high octane or ethanol free fuel... shame on Can Am, I haven't seen Can Am put that in writing and I've owned 5 Can Ams in the last 3 years. Im sorry if I'm irritate as I've drained the fuel from the Defender twice, and ran it on fuel with ethanol with no change in how rough the engine runs. In fuel injected engines i've run water with a mist of gas and they run. I believe it's a programming issue. Please listen to you dealer and not me...I'm sharing with you my opinion and experience. Happy thanksgiving please do what you feel comfortable with.

      @@maraudermitchelli it almost sounds like there's a misunderstanding here. It sounds like your dealer and mine are both recommending 87 octane with octane. I thought you said you use ethanol free gas. I'm saying that is unnecessary and, according to my dealer, has caused problems with a handful of his clients. The only reason to use ethanol free gas is to prevent seal damage in CARBURATED engines like your lawnmower, chainsaw, leaf blower etc.

    • @maraudermitchelli
      @maraudermitchelli  3 года назад

      @@garymeyer3294 I don’t agree with not using ethanol free gas. Ethanol facilitates water in the fuel. I use ethanol free fuel in all my engines, cars trucks chainsaws Can Am atv’s…the recommendation not to use it came from Can Am I think it’s bunk 🙂

    • @dieselmutt8865
      @dieselmutt8865 2 года назад

      I think you, or you're dealer, is confusing this point that the machine is made to be able to use 10% ethanol. Some states have ethanol mandates that require all gasoline sold to have it so manufacturers design to accept that. That doesn't mean it requires it's use, just that it is acceptable to use 10% oxy fuel.

    • @DDrenegade6632
      @DDrenegade6632 Год назад +1

      I think the octane thing is true. I run nothing but 91 non ethanol in everything . I owned a 2020 Yamaha 700, was fine for a year, then developed hard rough starting and terrible cold starts. That dealer said I should run 87 and it would cure the problem. I blew them off as stupid.. but later tried it, it worked like new after that. Sold that, bought a 2021 outlander max 850. Same thing with that one. Ran great for a year, then had rough hard starting issues and terrible cold starts. That dealer told me the same thing, don’t run anything but 87. Switched it to that and guess what? Ran like new all over. The same dealer took that outlander on trade for a 23 defender. I plan to only use 87 in it as he highly recommended the same thing. Sometimes it really is that simply. They are made to run best on crap gas.
      So, I get your thoughts, I had the same thoughts. But two different makes, same problem, both solved by doing what the dealer said, used 87.
