I have been collecting toys over 30 years. This will be my first Hot Toys. Cannot resist 1989 Batman, knowing all the (pro and cons) features. Thank you very much for the review.
The new one looks bulky which is weird because Michael Keaton isn't a big guy. It looks like the added bulk might be causing the emblem to face upwards a bit. The likeness isn't good on the new one and the texture of the suit is way too much. I'm sure the 2.0 is a well made figure, but it fails in the most important area.........accuracy.
The only thing I'd say about the old eye mechanics is that I've had them fail in the past, they can snap over time. I had to unscrew the panel and access the eyes individually on the joker figure.
just the joker or seen others with the same problem? I've moved the eyes a lot back when I 1st got the figure but it's been left alone for so many years. what I do want to do is replace the body inside and I saw someone use a hair dryer to melt the glue near the pants area.
Yes it's a very common issue. I have had several PERS systems break on me. As you will know, having removed the panel yourself, the mechanism is extremely fragile; very thin and made of very weak pieces of plastic. I have had the same problem with my Inart Joker. It was a blessing in disguise in some respects, because individual eye movement provides more range.
could you treat these figures with more care? the problem with the new one is that it doesn't look like Keaton, the old one is much better from this point of view, the improvements on the body are there, but the grain is too much. Released that after all these years had to be better, Hot toys did the bare minimum.
Rather than Taking the suit off of the DX 09 I recommend using a product called KiKi fix loose joints. Its a water based non-toxic substance, which helps restore friction to action figure joints. In the case of the dx 09 i carefully rolled up the rubber sleeves , exposing the elbow joints. I then applied KiKi to the joint via the nozzle applicator then moved the elbow back and forth, working the substance into the joint. I then did a little cleanup followed by putting the sleeves back in place. Coming back to it in an hour I found the joint could hold bends in the elbow very well without the suit pushing it down. I found a similar approach worked on the shoulder joints. The result of this is that the arms can hold poses at the shoulder like the arm out at the side holding the cape. I know folks maybe concerned about damaging the suit when doing this but if you treat the rubber with 303 protectant The suit should retain flexibility and durability to allow you to expose key joints for posing without damaging the suit.
Agreed. I think the overall impression is more accurate. The newer one has more high frequency details, but looking at how strong the bumps are on the suit, is that really better? I used to have DX09, but I think if I still owned it in my climate, the cape would be flaky mess. Rubber could possibly become sticky too.
No mention of the poorer head sculpt on the 2.0 and the weird avocado like texture on the suit that wasn’t there in the DX09? I have both and was very disappointed in the 2.0.
It's clear that they are cutting corners with stuff . The box looks horrible and what's up with the one shoe . If they are going to put the shoe then make a Vicky Vale hot toy. Unfortunately they aren't made to be put into dynamic positions and if you try well know. It's lucky yours is under warranty still.
Thank you for the review this is disappointing, I have reserved my version 2, but I have to say right from the first released pics I had my doubts, if anything the first version will now increase in value as this is not a worth while upgrade. My first 89 I sold, so bought the dx again and have this one on order too, I will say I am not keen on the sheen on the suit. Also the dx head scultpt is much better. Rachet is a improvement but if it effects the body size, making him not Micheal Keaton shape then that too is disappointing. Hottoys are making mistakes and this does look to be another. Third party's are definitely the way forward.
Are the DX09 face plates smaller than V2's? I noticed that from your side by side pose. Which explains why I thought the DX09's shoulders looked too broad, because the face and cowl was a bit small. Anyway that's my only nitpick while the V2 had a correct head size to shoulder width -- the only good thing about it plus no ugly opening PERS compartment at the back of the cowl.
it was on display in my room in the UK when i studied there for 4-5 years in university. then after i went back to Hong Kong I had it out on display for a few years at 1 of my offices. Always on a shelf or table, but it was never in direct sunlight.
The first batman I think looks more accurate EXCEPT the belt capsules on old one are on the wrong spots. Are they adjustable? . Even if the new one has better quality.
they are glued on, so if you want to move them, need to rip them off, re glue and re paint the belt... plus need to mind where the magnet for the grapple gun.
I have the original, as collector i know maybe the body have more movement, but display in extreme poses after some time will damage, deform the silicon suit. Also the suit texture is too extreme. And after this review we can say falling apart...;)
I'd pose them better. The way you have both of them don't do any service to how they are supposed to be seen. I immediately hate them lol. Dx09 is still the better figure.
I'll just have to agree to disagree with all reviews of the new 2.0. I find it absolutely Hideous. Yes, the cape, body, & articulation is WAY BETTER. But I buy these figures for the look as if they jumped right off the screen. The face & cowl are so way off it's not funny. I will keep the figure to pose with the arms raised with the rods as the DX-09 can't do this. But as for likeness, I give this a 4/10. Hot Toys artists on this project should be ashamed of themselves.
*Actively decides to not order deluxe version of figure...because he doesn't care about deluxe accessories. *Complains that the figure isn't deluxe...because it doesn't come with deluxe accessories. Some people's kids...
never once did I complain about not having a staircase stand as I didn't want it. BTW the deluxe version doesn't come with a light up stage or a bat logo torch plate. I'm comparing normal editions, and the old one still wins out. Some old people 🙄🙄🙄🙄
The old pers system was NOT better. The stems would break, then not work at all. Or an eye would/could be crooked, and you couldn’t adjust it due to them being connected! The separate eyes guarantee that nothing will break or malfunction with the rolling eyes. And no one wants a giant weird square on the back of his head! So please stop saying the old one was better! They stopped using it for a reason. You’re out of touch.
I know it’s just box art, but man do I prefer the yellow symbol on the standard box over the deluxe.
Great video!

Love love love the new one!! He's just so much bigger and has better presence to him.
The face plate of Dx09 looks like more Michael Keaton than The New one
You win the Darwin Award!🥇👌😂👍

Yup, bare minimum is the key word
Gotta love when you break hand pegs on a brand new expensive figure, happens to us all & you would think they would come up with a better design

Thanks man for the great review 🤙
Dx09 for the win
Those DX09 mouth plates are still unbeatable. New ones don't look as much as Keaton has the DX09 does.

I know the 89 bat suit is stiff but... if I'm buying a figure, I want to pose them...
Great, congratulation
EXCELLENT WORK. DIGGER318 TOY REVIEWS BOTH SIX-SCALE FIGURES BATMAN 🦇 1989.

well I would be excited if a 3rd party took a try at batman 1989 especially if 1:12 so someone can finally make a joker

V2 face plates are more narrow.
Was your old batman on display the last 10 years or was it in its box?
I haven’t opened mine since I bought it. Just no room and it was stored away
it was on display in my room in the UK when i studied there for 4-5 years in university.
then after i went back to Hong Kong I had it out on display for a few years at 1 of my offices.
Always on a shelf or table, but it was never in direct sunlight.

looks more like Mads Mikkelsen as batman :) .so glad i canceled preorder
😂. Yes I do see Mads Mikkelsen And once you see it you can't unsee it.
I have the original, as collector i know maybe the body have more movement, but display in extreme poses after some time will damage, deform the silicon suit. Also the suit texture is too extreme. And after this review we can say falling apart...;)

The new head is bigger than the old one, the mezco version is trash it completely falls apart.
Hot Toys captured LIFE in the old one,...the new one doesn't look alive & the textured suit is rubbish. Capes good though.
This dude is just destroying his figure in this video lol. Broken belt...broken hand.
oops
You can see the difference between an adult and a child in the way you manipulate things...

well i do want to get a replacement body and cape for the old one... will do a video on it when i try.
You posed them really badly, no offense. I think people are trying to retain value on the original. Its not better, barely a difference

I'm pretty sure I made it clear why I think the old system is better for my type of usage.
but Ahhhh! scream! exclamation mark!
@@digger318toyreviews Like I said, you’re completely incorrect.
Great review 👏🏼
