What an amazing piece of music! It has everything. Drama - melody - pathos. Building....and building.....and building.....and building - *up to it's dramatic finale!* 4.14 minutes of pure bliss. *Bravo!....Michael Nyman and his orchestral players!*
Totally agree! Pure genius in 99.9% of his works. Same goes for his orchestra. My life is totally enriched by Michael Nyman's music and I will never tire of it. Long live the Maestro
This is my favorite music piece. When people ask me what my favorite song is, I tell them, I don't have a favorite song. it is a music piece. But it is more than a music piece.
I'm sure the orchestra did hundreds of repetitions, rehearsals before the performance but they seem very passionate and tremendously engaged to the harmony.
Michael Nyman est celui qui m'a fait aimer la musique répétitive quand en 1985 je suis allé écouter Memorial joué dans la Centrale Électrique de Yainville. Un choc extraordinaire, depuis je suis un fan absolu !
I just listened to the original -> Cold Song Purcell and thought where did I hear this before ? it is the beautiful music in the opening scene of The cook, the thief, the wife and the lover, a very brilliant arrangement of the Cold song
I'm not as musically knowledgeable as many of the commentators here, so forgive my clumsy thoughts. What absolutely grabs my heart with this piece is the way he sets up the layers so that even when you hear a new one, you are still aware of the others interacting so beautifully. I get so fully immersed in this, privately my hands and head are bobbing all over the place! My favourite piece of music! Used to be "Chasing sheep is best left to shepherds", but this edges it! As an aside, when you realise how rich this piece is and what goes on in it, it's astonishing that it's only about 4 minutes long!
No offense, but musically there is absolutely nothing going on in most of Michael Nyman's compositions. To a well educated musician (classical or modern) this is kindergarten level. Having said this, art is not measured by the complexity of a piece. It is measured by the impact on the viewer or listener. Nyman has developed a style that excites despite its simplicity and technical emptiness. And that is absolutely fine, no matter what some critics have to say about it. I enjoy his music and so do you. That is all that matters.
Why no new concerts? 😢 that's something incredible, like we are living in the same era with Tchaikovsky and we do not have access to it. I want to listen Nyman and his band numerous times. Why are you doing this to me to us, it's like giving a wonderful dose and cutting it off suddenly😅
This is true art, this will stay recorded in history forever.
This piece is so sick I feel like I'm transported to another level by it above petty human concerns. I like this feeling

Nothing will ever beat chasing sheep,
but this still passes time very nicely!
A masterpiece of contemporary classical music. Simply superb!

Por favor, cuéntanos al respecto. Todo lo que recuerdes. Please?
This is divine passion injected directly to your soul and blood through your ears and eyes. Transcendental.
Amazing - have always enjoyed Michael Nyman's unique sounds which evoke many happy memories.
Masterpiece of modernist classical…close your eyes, feel it and go with it I guarantee you will love the ride 👍🏻

Yep 👍
Pure magic!
The intensity and passion in this piece comes through so well! It is a perfect match for McQueen’s documentary.
I prefer this performance better than the studio version. Fantastic.
Totally agree
This should be the definition of music.
Better watch the film by Greenaway "A zed and two noughts" , to know where this beautiful theme fits in!
Absolutamente genial!
Je suis d'accord

Лучшая композиция, что я слышала, боже 💕
Одна из лучших композиций 20 века...
Работая с Гринуэем, они оба поставили себе прижизненный памятник..Гении

MAGIA!!!!
Awesome
Magnific❤🎼
Hermosamente magestuoso!!
Genio total
That was... intense. I gotta check out more oft his work. Until now, I only knew him for his score of GATTACA (which is excellent)
Oh to have this version on Spotify
merci c'est magique
Wow this song is good!
Played this in an arrangement for a large Brass and Sax ensemble. Shortened all the notes. Very atmospheric
Wow, what a journay of time! I saw my own childhood and nowadays, when i am beginning to become an old woman... it's the inner eye, it is magic!!!
Da brivido ❤️
Sounds similar to Klaus Nomi's "Cold Song", 1981
Good observation, a lot of Nyman's music is based on Purcell, including 'Memorial'
Cold Song is a Purcell's creation, a bit older than 1981...
