ICONIC G-LAND || 1976: CLEAN & GREEN

In 1976 an eleven meter turtle boat sailed slowly into Grajagan Bay. Through the golden haze of the breaking day they saw fast hollow waves breaking along a long lefthand point. There were eight surfers and five local crew on board. Including Dickie, Claw, Squirrel and Terry Fitzgerald. Grubby (Peter McCabe) and Gerry (Lopez) showed up too. Sleeping and eating on the boat listening to tigers and monkeys in the jungle. They weren’t the first to surf there, but they were close, and they were first to film it. They had set out in search of paradise and they found it.

Starter surfing in 1974 on a Mark Warren 7/6 single fin, I was 8 years old, got to G Land in 1991. Had the good fortune to watch surf & share waves with Arron Napolian & Whoa from the North Shore. Their call on the big days was 12 to 15 feet, still to this day the Biggest, Cleanest, Roundest, Heaviest Waves I have had the good fortune to surf. Arron won the best surfer of that 7 days, I won the heaviest wipe out of that swell 💪😎
