There are many entry level jobs out there. Some of them require a college degree, many of them require 2-3 years of work experience (which makes no sense). Some of the best entry careers you can get into without a college degree and without any experience. Some of these jobs you can get into in as little as one month, and can pay up to $100k a year in the first year.
In this video I’m going to talk about the entry level job tier list and which carers are the best and worst at the entry level in my opinion.
Enjoy :)

Hi Shane can you do a video on computer information science
A-Tier: Truck Driver
12 yr truck driver here. I agree with the ranking as well as the cons of the lifestyle. But i would say the cons are not so bad if you’re single with no children. And the pros FAR outweigh the cons because you can do a lot of things other ppl cannot do, such as:
1. You can live in your truck and save A LOT of money FAST. It is pretty reasonable to NET $1,200/week as a rookie trucker. That’s $4,800/month in the bank. Your truck has a comfortable bed, a fridge, and heat/AC-all at no cost to you. So you will save all the money you’d normally spend on rent, utilities, car note, car insurance, and gas. All you pay for is your phone bill, and the food you eat everyday. Let’s be generous and say that’s $1,200/mo you spend on those 2 things. You save the rest. You do the math on how much you saved in the bank after a year or two of that.
2. If you work OTR you earn UN-paid time off whenever you want to use it. Right now my deal is for every three weeks i stay on the road i get one week off. If i decide i want to spend that week in Las Vegas they will send me to deliver something to Las Vegas; so i basically get paid to go there. Park my truck at a truck stop in Las Vegas then hit the town for a week. Next month i decide i want to go to Colombia (the country). I get a load to Atlanta and park the truck there because they have the cheapest tickets to Colombia. Then i stay in Colombia for that whole week and do whatever. And i can do this every month because i always make more than enuff money to do it and i stay on the road long enuff to get the time off every month.
3. If you save your money like that for one year you can use it as a down payment on a duplex with an FHA loan. Live on one side and rent out the other side so you basically live there for free. Now you have a house to live in, can quit trucking with money in the bank after a year or two, then take on one of these remote jobs listed in this video. Now you can make and save even more money while living in a house YOU own that gets paid for by someone else 💰💰💰💰
Nah too many stupid people on the road. Not to mention the costs of operating the vehicle.
@@grimsonforce7504 I didn’t say anything about running your own truck; we’re talking being a company driver here. What costs of running the truck??
A tier if you're happy having no life
@@xMister.Misterxgreat advice man but isn’t truck driving for people who want the lowest hanging fruit? The easy route? What about people who wants to practice a skill, go home every night??? Truck driving is literally for guys who fell off..

Customer Service Representative needs to go to a lower tier. Working in a call center is the worst thing I’ve ever done to myself. Endless Karens
The worst.
It depends. I loved hotel reservations but hated dealing with the mail order pharmacy. The pharmacy wouldn’t have been so bad if the pharmacy had its act together.
Can't wait for A.I. to unburden all those poor souls
I currently work in a call center and it is great. I've heard many bad things about other call centers but the one I work in all of the management started off in the same position with a few exceptions. It is also on the technology field so there's a lot of horizontal growth as well.

Office worker is a great job if you have a business major. You will be able to apply what you learn immediately. You also have access to knowledge of other people.
Trade skills could be it's own tier list, which there are plenty. The problem with them is typically the time away and what it does to your body. I'm curious why the military wasn't on the list though

Can you send some entry level data analyst roles in atlanta?
How the hell is "real estate agent" an entry-level job? You have to pass an exam and take college classes for that gig.
I think it means fresh out of college entry level job,
Depends on who you know. You don't need a degree
Real estate broker or agent ? Agent is fairly easy to obtain. Just a course tbh . A broker requires more work.
Collage classes are not a requirement on all 50 states.
No College Classes are necessary in ANY of the 50 states in order to become a licensed realtor. So, please be real. Thank you
I love how ux/ui is on this. It makes me more confident in my decision to major in cogsci HCI
I really appreciate your videos, there are so many different paths we can choose and it can be overwhelming to not know what to expect from each one. I feel you do a good job going over a lot of it and I think you logic things out well so thanks :)
outstanding upload Shane Hummus. I smashed that thumbs up on your video. Always keep up the first-rate work.
Much appreciated. Subbed you back
Great Video!
I really appreciate the insight on different entry-level positions. My tier list work be:
Data Entry - B (Easy, mundane job to get into and the possibility for outsourcing means you can inflate earning potential as well lowkey)
Digital Marketing - A (Great start, but I'm still bearish on it leading to higher-paid opportunities)
Tech Sales - A (SH's description of it perfectly describes it. Introverts or people who aren't equipped to handle long talkative and persuasive days might not be the best fit, but it's a great gig to do on the side if that's the case)
Retail Sales - F (The pay and earning potential is just too low in today's economy unless your finances are already secured, plus the karens lol)
Office Clerk - C (The networking is the name of the game here. Really depends on where you work but the free time you get after making copies for the boss can be used to learn other skills or do hw if you're in college)
Web Developer - S (Easily the best skill to have in today's tech world. Coding may be difficult but the upside is worth it, a lot of people quit their full-time get after their part-time WD gig took off. Somewhat flexible schedule and don't have to be in an office too. Finally...Myspace lol)
Food Service Worker - F (You will become so busy with making other people's food that you will neglect your health and diet. Back Of The House workers can gain debilitating shoulder, back, and knee issues as objects can be placed higher or lower than your arm's reach. Pay sucks and should be only for high school or early college students. Also, NO weekend freedom...bite me)
Software Developer S (ALOT of competition brings down the value, but overall great entry-level position for you once find a legit bootcamp.
SQAT - S (Actually didn't know this one until I paused the video and researched for a bit, very lucrative and not as "codey")
Receptionist - C (Your experience in the field really depends on where you work. The upside is the networking possibilities and the overnight free pay)
IT - S (Just as diverse as software development, but not as difficult once you learn core principles. Much room for scaling among multiple businesses without feeling too overwhelmed. My favorite on the list)
Cybersecurity - S (Probably the best overall to me. Can be one of the easiest well-paying jobs on the list after you get the hang of certain principles. High earning potential as well)
Security Guard - S (Easy job and pay decently for the lower tier jobs on the list. Can be coupled with most jobs on the list to maximize earnings. Also, the perfect college job to knock out assignments on your phone or laptop)
Trade Career - S (Worth the aches for some trades like plumbers and HVACs. Truck drivers or some variation will ALWAYS be in demand)
UX/UI Designer - S (Underrated considering how talented people are in art and digital media. Scalable as hell too)
Customer Service Rep - D (Always in demand for the wrong reasons lol. No scalability and karens will have your a** lol)
Data Analyst - S (This is what I'm trying to get into now lol, so many industries are dependent on Data, and being able to work remote is a huge plus)
Real Estate Agent - A (Seems like a lot of companies "box you out the paint" but can be excellent as a side gig. If you're in a popping real estate market it can be grand for a full-time option too)
Waiter/Waitress - B (So days will be busier than others but knowing that you have a team of waiters around you can be soothing...and also annoying if there's tension. Money can get great if you know how to smile and live in an affluent area)
Cashier - F (Standing in the same position for 8 hours sucks and can wear you down surprisingly, pay stinks, and again...karens)
Shelf Stocker - F (Pay is better than cashier but it's bad for your body over time. Madden how repetitive it is and can be annoying dealing with customers mid-shelf)
Bartender - B (Basically get hit on by the opposite sex regularly, pays good but the workplace can get competitive and gossipy quick like waiters/waitresses)
Medical Assistant - S (Working in Healthcare IT, I observed many MA's enjoy the work they do. Pay isn't great unless you live in a state where the work is more appreciated like California, New Jersey, Florida, etc. Many MAs have successful careers and the demand as SH mentioned is increasing. Just have to deal with waking up early)
That was a great video, you covered such a wide range of jobs that I have not seen other people be able to do.
Im 24, cant drive, nor have i ever held a job. I can not find a first job that fits me personally! As weird as it sounds, Data Entry sounds like the best one lol. Im not looking to make gazillions my first year, id legitimately be happy with $1000 a month. I just want to know what its like to earn money and have SOME responsibility, but i also want to have a life outside of working (for now at least). Ive been spoiled my whole life and i want to try something new!
Replying to this late, don't take this offensively but you gotta get out of your shell a bit more. If you're 24 and haven't worked yet, you're missing out on sooo many experiences. Ya those retail/fast food jobs suck when you're 18 and 19, but it's when you meet the best people of your life. I promise you. You don't need to hear this again I'm sure but get a job straight out of college and start meeting people, make connections as quickly as you can. Also, get a car whenever possible. You're missing out on a lot of freedom too by not being able to drive. Don't look back on your 20s with regret, start making small changes now that have huge improvements!

This is a great resource! I know this is not meant to be a totally exhaustive list, but I would add Business Analyst and System Admin to the list. Both of these roles can earn near 6-figures for junior level roles in most circumstances. For instance, in the Salesforce ecosystem, which I've been working in for 8 years, you can help configure software through point-and-click setup pages rather than write code, and help companies best use their Salesforce software, while starting out around $85k.
Thank you for making videos that actually help people. Your advice is invaluable!
Happy to help! Thanks for the kind words.
I appreciate how organized and informative your videos are❤
Awesome. Thanks for offering solutions for career opportunities. I appreciate the work you put into this great teir list. Your work has encouraged me to start thinking about remote work. Thank you for helping to broaden my horizons 🙂
I would also add pharmacy technician. It's super easy to get into and the pay can be decent depending on where you work. You can get training on the job and take a course provided by your job instead of going to school for it. But of course you could do that too. You can become certified and make more. BUT retail pharmacy is tough because you have to deal with A LOT of Karens and frustrated/angry people. It can be mentally exhausting. I have only worked at two pharmacies so far and I'm trying to get out of retail and work at either a hospital or a pharmacy that doesn't deal with the public. I've worked at Walmart and Walgreens and I would say that Walmart is better. Better pay, and more hours. But in retail, just be prepared to be yelled at, cursed at, have things thrown at you, and people giving you attitude for whatever reason. People can just be really nasty sometimes.
i work at cvs pharm as a cvs tech. i am traumatized

As someone who worked at a Texas roadhouse for two years, food service is a D tier. The work is hard and the pay is mediocre, but it is a good first job. I'm sick of it now, but the experience of busting my ass for $7-14 an hour was enlightening (kind of)
Yeah food service is definitely a tuff job! I worked at Olive Garden during college for a while and it was a constant grind! I wouldn’t put it a D teir cuz I made pretty good money at just Olive Garden and there are plenty of fancy restaurants you can work at and make upwards of $40-60 an hour fairly ez. But yeah $14/hr isn’t worth cuz people suck 😅
Your tier lists are what drew me to this channel, glad to see a new one
I love making them but I don't always have ideas for them. Feel free to drop any you'd like me to make!
@@ShaneHummus one thing I was thinking about was cities to live in. Of course there are multiple factors here to consider but some important ones for people in their 20s are things to do, job opportunity, weather, cost of living compared to average salaries, future property prices, and maybe others you might be thinking of.
I'll drop ideas if I think of others
I was contemplating going to tech sales or customer service consultant with the companies that are offering me. This video definitely helped with my decision!
I think data entry is not so bad. You could work from home and listen to music. You don’t have to work with people if you are introverted and you can get more advanced and technical data entry later. You can start from a temp agency and find something permanent later. But yes, could be a bit monotonous. Stretch your wrists too.
Would you ever consider making a video on best careers for moms and life balance?

Idk, I think trades (electrician, plumber etc) should have had its own category and put into S tier. Plumbers live a normal lifestyle (not traveling like a trucker) and can have a good career out of it.

As someone with a degree and certification and project, I would say data analyst is a hard job to get entry level (without experience) especially since it’s been popularized so now it’s very competitive
What's your degree in? Is it an analytical one? Cause I'm currently a High School Math Teacher trying to transition to Data Analytics , I am currently completing the Google Data Analytics Certification and I'm about to complete an SQL course and concurrently going to complete a Tableau course as well with the Google DA Cert. I figured my degree would help a lot since I have a degree in Physics w/ a minor in Applied Math. You still think the job prospects are few and far between even with a STEM degree and multiple certificates?
@@j.pesquera I have a Business Degree, Google Cert and Project with it. I would say focus on making a high quality project. Applied Math is probably good for job prospects, but there's still all those experience requirements. I think it's a highly desirable job right now so lots of competition. Best of luck

Software development entry level is super difficult right now, entry level basically asks for a lot
Another great benefit for (chain) hotel jobs is the discount hotel rooms when traveling.
I think you should re-evaluate your service industry numbers, I work in mid-tier restaurants and make $60k a year on my W-2 working 6-hour days
I have yet to encounter a digital marketing or web developer job that did not require a degree and/or experience.
Surprised you didn't cover warehouse worker given that it's a pretty common entry level job.
It's because it's awful. The work can ruin your back, and the people are a nightmare. I've had plenty of supervisors that get angry with me for doing my work instead of giving them attention. Basically, they want me to go into work and apologize for working. I swear, warehouse people are the neediest and immature people alive.
So avoid it. Learn Excel and the rest of Microsoft Suite and get yourself an office job. Warehouse is only good if you absolutely cannot get a decent job anywhere else.
@@infinitum8558 For a short-term job, I wouldn't say it's awful. Yes, it can be hard work with all the lifting, but so long as you're fit, the exercise can be a benefit. It's better than sitting in a chair all day, which is much worse for your back and health in general. So, I'm not saying it's a good job to have for long, but it can be okay while someone is in college or working towards something better.
I've had a few warehouse jobs, so I know what it's like. The vast majority of the lifting wasn't heavy lifting. And they do make you watch training videos to encourage proper lifting to avoid injury.
I definitely liked this video. this guy actually put software development for an ENTRY LEVEL JOB TIER LIST
This was two and a half years ago Einstein
I’m currently in community college majoring in business administration for transfer. A state school is offering a free (or cheap) 10-month software development course. Would it be worth taking it to add some employable skills to my resume? Also, would it help me get a somewhat good paying job while still attending school to earn my bachelors?
If it's free or cheap, I don't see any reason why you can't try it out. I think that you'll have to do other things on the side like build projects, self study, network etc in order to get a job
☝️☝️ I have attained a sufficient stage of profit compacted in my portfolio regardless the huge dump situation which the market is currently going through and negatively affecting everyone hodling, but myself exemted and benefiting passive weekly returns from the investment spot which I was able to secure from investing my digital share with my portfolio manager Sir Kevin, has returned sufficient RIO.
I hope to commend his professional role in achieving a lot more for everyone with the interest.
As someone who has and will continue to work in tech, I would say:
1. Take the course if you find it helpful and cheap or free. Good to always learn something new.
2. No you won't get a job off of one course. It takes a few years of coding experience, and project build-up and knowledge to be able to interview and start entry level.
A data analyst role may be one of the best entry-level tech roles to get if you don't have a degree in STEM.
I'd take the course if you have the time and if it's cheap, sounds like it'd be a good way to see if you'd be interested in the field
Wait what??….truck driver being a six figure job??? What the heck…I would assume that job to pay poorly.
Nice ranking. My 18 year old son has excellent people skills and is funny as heck (star of drama department) but has ADD so he cannot stand still for long and gets bored easily. We were thinking real estate since that field has no limit on pay, you always need to keep hustling, but you have to be talented and disciplined to get the big bucks. Is that a good fit for him? Digital marketing could be his niche also since he loves to make videos and is very good at sales.

Security Guard is S tier if you're introverted. If requested/lucky you're at a site where you're unmanaged like a sanitation site (no cameras, people) it's so easy you get paid for sleeping. Pair that with a remote job and you're instantly earning above 150k annually your first year of doing this. If you're managing credit and investing you'll have monster amounts of profit very fast; by far has been the quickest track to being a millionaire for me whilst still seeming like a normal person.
I'm capable of doing multiple remote jobs at the same time paired with investing, multiple credit cards which give me discounts on everything I do with their rewards, and the flexibility of working alone at a security site every week continues to shoot my net worth high since im also a conventional spender.
More or less can get the same results depending on where you live. I'm in New York with a $400 rent I offset with a Bilt Credit Card that gives you your money back im travel which you can sell to people who travel more than you if you'd want. You can imagine why the gains are so retarded since i virtually use credit cards to make my purchases cost nothing or earn, state income multiplier, and jobs that literally pay me to eat, sleep, n shit.
Would you recommend security to a 19 year old

when it comes to trucking companies have a reputation for screwing over their employees one way or another, it's not easy finding a good employer that will pay well. It also depends on what kind of truck specialty you're doing flat bed, verse box truck. weather you own your own truck or not. I've heard that your first year you will not get paid well unless you work with big companys like amazon or Walmart.
If you do truck driving do food service for US Foods, PFG, Mclane

Disagree about Data Entry being F tier, especially if the title has "analyst" in its name. Data Entry can be a foot in the door to the world of data science. Market your attention to detail and corrections you made. A real Data Analyst job is s-tier. A data entry job with "analyst" in its title is at least C-tier
As a former Realtor I highly disagree. You should ONLY go into real estate if you have a very large existing social circle (like, in highschool terms, you’re *super popular*), and be prepared for extremely hefty fees for all of the orgs you have to be a member of. You’ll spend thousands a year just to BE a Realtor.
Neat trick at 6:28. 😉
Thx for great info delivered clearly.
I enjoyed this video. I want to get into software development but I don’t really know how as I’m a criminal justice major with a minor in cyber crime.
If you want to go the degree route you can get a legit computer science degree from WGU in 1-2 years (not kidding on this), if you want to get into software development faster I would self study for awhile and then consider taking a bootcamp (just make sure you do your due diligence on the bootcamp). I recently helped a guy who immigrated from Brazil and had some issues with Egnlish get a job as a software developer in around 5-6 months via the bootcamp method
I work in tech sales. Sky’s the limit but it’s EXTREMELY stressful.
Im trying to work in tech sales but its been difficult getting that job.
@@Mightyyy8 start as an SDR/BDR first
Which IT related job is not stressful?
Cybersecurity straight into S tier of entry level jobs xD, 95% people won't even cut it for simplest SOC.
What do you think about ethical hackers future
Which tier would finance jobs go? Like jobs dealing with private equity, M&A, financial analysis, etc.
Fairly obvious right? PE is a bad example, that aint entry level. But MBB consulting/IB and all that would be SSS tier. U earn 3x what the S tier entry level jobs earn.
You have to go to an ivy league school. All those people in those jobs are pieces of shit. So prideful
Great information Shane very helpful 👍
Glad it was helpful!
A tier video ✅
Data entry is okay for once you can do it remotely and very fast very easy as long as you do it remotely
To each their own, I can't stand it haha
That's what I need, something remote and once I'm real good at it fast and easy
@@derekrequiem4359 oh I will. Imma see what's popping on flex jobs
I just need am entry level job that doesn't need me to be fast paced. Hate jobs that rush you all the time
A new tier list but you didn't mention anything about LPN or licensed vocational nurse. Is this still a good entry level job?
He’s wrong about food service. I got a job at Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg California when I was 15 and when I left shortly after my 18th birthday I had $70k in my bank account. Find a good place and food service is easily B tier.
I just started a security guard job yesterday and I already want to quit
I took a data entry job and quit by lunch time the first day.
You forgot warehouse associate or forklift driver
I think IT should go to A tier - it's not on the same level as software dev and I worked in IT for years. Also cyber security is not an entry level field. You need years of IT experience like as a system administrator to make the switch.
Hey Shane Hummus. Good video. I just have a question for you. If you were to make this video again, where would you rate pharmacy technicians and pharmacists?
Also, can you do a new video for best careers for 2023?
*For the people that plan to get a masters degree
Can you review geography please ?
Would it be possible for you to do a video on how to break into Procurement? I’ve been doing it for the military and I would love to do it as a civilian.
I hoping I can get a software developer job without a degree
Look into construction management
Hey guys, I'm 32 with a background in costumer service and culinary arts, but I'm trying to change career. Im looking for an online company where I can work from home (Mexico), and grow inside the company. Im interested in copywriting, costumer service related and/or opinions on coding. Anything advice will be really appreciated, thanks!!
