- Today marks nineteen days countdown to the country's national and provincial elections. According to the Electoral Commission (IEC), fifteen candidates from eight political parties, participating in the elections, are eighteen years old and also first-time voters. Nine are female and six are male. Also, of the 27.79 million voters registered, 11.7 million voters represent persons in the ages 18-39 years. This morning, we continue our focus on South Africa's youth and voting. We are joined by young South Africans who will be voting for the first time: Amahle Gantsho, 22 years old, a student at the University of Cape Town; Gcinile Jessica Cindi, 26 years old and founder of Young Proud Lesbian Legacy Campaign. We are also joined by Iyedi Mashifane, 20 years old and Chief Convener of Young Woke Voter.

Voter apathy is real and disillusionment with the ruling party and government: There has been a steady decline in voter turnout since the 1994 national election with the 2021 Local General Election (LGE) continuing this trend. The 1994 election saw a voter turnout of 86,87%, whereas the last National and Provincial Election - in 2019 - saw 66,1% of registered voters turn up at the ballot box. The most recent LGE in 2021 produced a meager 45,86% voter turnout.
The numbers don’t lie. There is a clear and worrying decline in our national voter turnout.😢
EFF here we go...
Lesson no2 No selfies in ballot box🥳

None of what you mention is a problem except unemployment

Young voters mostly have given up on politics as there is zero representation, OHM will implement a direct electoral system so that all public officials are elected directly and held accountable directly.
You seem to have comprehension issues. There's Over 11milliion registered young voters. What do you mean they've given up?
