OK, it's June 14, 2024, lol, hope you are still living. I was a fan of Norton for way too long. I finally appreciate the Windows Defender Security package. This video was very fun, educational, helpful, necessary, etc. When you and many of us finally kick the bucket, we will be your heavenly followers in your high tech, reaching the edge of the stars computer shed. Gracias, and don't forget to read "The Velveteen Rabbit", by Margery Williams, Classic Edition while on the sod's green side.
For some reason, when I click “quick scan,” it goes on forever. The amount of files scanned and estimated time remaining keeps increasing forever. Is this caused by a virus?
This worked for me: Try clicking "Windows Defender Antivirus options" and turn on Periodic scanning. It should then open up more settings where you can quick scan and such. Hope this helps.
Ok, so go in your file explorer and right click a file you think is a virus and if you see "Scan with Microsoft defender" and do fully scan and scroll down and press scan. Hope I helped you!
so...I do this a lot and always comes back with results that there are no viruses. However since my computer has been acting funky I don't believe that. What are some other solutions to really dig deep into your system to look for viruses, worms, malware etc. Is it best to buy some kind of software ?

So I accidently clicked a pop up ad and a virus got on my computer but i deleted before it could do anything i think. It did the check and its said it was fine but is it really?
Good Video! However, keep in mind that once you turn on Windows Defender, updates will be checked for automatically at least once a day, and scans will automatically be weekly. You don't have to go into Action Center at all, unless you get a notification from Action Center that something needs manual attention. Action Center will tell you what to do. In Windows 10, you have the option to get a weekly pop-up from Action Center about the results of your scans. This is turned on be default. If Enhanced Notifications (weakly summery scans) are turned off, you will still get notices if Windows Defender needs you to do something, Windows Defender in Windows 10 really is a light-weight, auto-update, set it and forget it AV system. It is really good now, especially in active builds 1803 onward.
My Windows 10 Defender is not working. I can bring up the Windows 10 application, but I cannot start a virus scan. Have you got suggestions why it is not working?
Thats strange. Does it give you an error code or anything to google? Might mean you should snag another free Antivirus like Malwarebytes and do a scan. Just to be certain that there isnt some virus or other program on your computer blocking Windows Defender.
@@ChupacabraTutorials I have done a full computer virus with my paid anti-virus software. I always like to do a Windows defender anti-virus scan, as the Windows defender has picked up viruses on 2 seperate occasions on my previous computer.
I started using windows defender...before mcafee was preinstalled on my pc. I just couldn't stand all the offer bombings and notifications...plus it just felt like bloatware.
You can try scanning your computer with Windows Security. It might be able to fix the issue. You just tell it to quarantine or remove the issues in question. It either can or it cant. If it can tell you what the virus is, then google it. There is likely an article written someplace by one of the major security companies that will give you advice on how to remove it. If your computer is just really slow. That might not be related to the virus. You still need to get rid of those viruses. But they might not be whats bogging down your computer. Try cleaning up unused files on your computer with a program like CCleaner (Its free) and then defrag your machine as well. Things like that help to improve your performance.

So in the new "Windows Security" Which replaced Windows Defender. There's this sidebar on the left. Under Virus & Threat Protation they have a "Current Threats" section at the top of the page. They have "Protection History" linked there. If it doesnt show up there. I guess it just considers whatever threat it was dealt with, and doesnt think it worth showing. Not super helpful I know. But I guess just review and make a note of the threat before you remove/delete it if you wanna have some record of what it was.
Most of them are about the same. Microsoft provides most of the virus detection stuff to the rest of them. So it's as good as any. You're super concerned you'd probably grab a couple of them and scan them each one round. Couple times a month
