Well explained about how to go faster in the Ami. I don't think I would feel safe going much above the 28mph it was designed for but I expect there will be some people out there who are plotting to get the things to go faster and end up getting the Ami banned.
You think 28mph is safe on a 50mph (80km/u) road? I certainly don't. Some driver who isn't paying attention is going to slam into your back. I think in any plaggy sans permis where your feet are the crumple zone, you don't want to be doing silly speeds. In the case of my sans permls van, there is the subframe holding a 400cc twin cylinder engine out front. In a crash I'm pretty sure my feet would end up crushed by that lump of metal. I ride my old bicycle quite quickly (average 20mph) because I hate cycling and want every trip to end as soon as possible. (I do 70 miles per week, every week, and have done for almost the last 15 years.) When I was a car driver I didn't like following a dawdling, dithering, wandering bike at 10mph, so I ride now as if I were following behind myself in a car. I keep close to the kerb so that nutters can still get past. The Ami's top speed seems good enough for most daily drives. It's nice, though, on a bike, when the traffic's heavy, to be able to stop, get off, and leave the way clear for raging White Van Man, who always does 50 in a 20 zone. It's difficult to move aside in an Ami, and as there's no tolerant 'sans permit' culture here in Britain, I'd be worried about being nudged into a ditch by Mr Angry (and his two mates and their pickaxe handles). The fastest I've gone here [in Yorkshire] has been 47 mph, and that was quite fast enough. The thought of a wheel collapsing and my luscious squidgy bits sliding along the tarmac for 30 yards without the protection of a motorbike rider's leathers, gauntlets, and crash helmet makes me go all... unnecessary.😳 I imagine the Ami would cope pretty well with higher-than-designed speeds, but I'd be concerned about its stability on public roads; drifting across into the oncoming traffic at 70mph could really spoil your day.
My Opel Rocks-E usually has the regenerative braking kick in at 71km on the range. It has waited till 65 once, but I guess it has a sensor to check how much energy you're using. Going downhill you wouldn't be using much, so it'll kick in later. I live in the flat Netherlands though. The biggest hills and valleys are viaducts!
You are both amazing. if I understood correctly, the increased speed is valid for a distance of 5 km, until the instrument shows 64 km of autonomy. The second question is whether it doesn't only apply downhill. I mean that you have increased speed elsewhere, not necessarily 70km/h
You could go above 45 anywhere if you have above 65km of range in battery but of course in reality it won’t because foot to floor = 45 and only with gravity can you get above that.
I live in Katwijk aan Zee in the Netherlands and here it is absolutely completely flat so I will have to settle for 45 km/h and that is fast enough for me!
Magnifique, the pair of yiz are just like Mssrs Daimler & Benz, clinging on for dear life in the quest for mans greatest desire...SPEED ! Great to see uman beans still embracing Danger and waving their fists at it. 🥳
Thank you for all your videos, I really enjoy watching them! I am considering the Opel Rocks-e variant, and will be completely satisfied sticking to 45kmh in our Dutch flat country :) I was wondering if you could help with two questions, not related to this video: 1. In your “recall” video you showed you have an interior light in the car. Which light / accessory do you use for this? 2. In your “review” video you talked about the foggy windows. Is it sufficient to open the side windows a little bit (say 1cm) to prevent fog on them, or do you have to open them all the way? Thank you and greetings from Holland!
Hi, so glad you are enjoying. The light is a simple stick on rechargeable one from Amazon. (I think I link to it in the accessory video but if not let me know and I’ll find it). We find it varies fog wise but try and get away with semi open!
I guess a lot of people were thinking you were going to show them some sort of power box to disable the limiter 😀 Our small EV is similar as there's no regen when the battery is full. With no servo assist I really have to give the brake pedal some welly with no regen. Ours is designed to go at just over 80 kph so handles well, how was the Ami at high speed? You both looked fairly calm anyway.
It handles fine, but I think you’d have to be careful (!) and I was interested in showing why it sometimes goes that fast downhill and other times doesn’t as it baffled us to begin with.
The video was interesting. I would have expected you to go a little faster down hill but was surprised by the speed you achieved. I think Elton might have enjoyed having a high speed run out.
The Xiaomi M365 eScooter was the first recent (pre-pandemic) "EV" to have its speed limiter hacked. And as you say, it cuts down on range. Can't have everything -- yet. Cheers! [typo edit]
If I added a battery to the car which kept the Ami car battery topped up could I continually drive at a higher speed whilst ever it was being topped up?
A note on mods and 'tampering' with the vehicles systems to make it go faster. You will invalidate your insurance. I don't know about France, but in the UK you will be royally screwed for driving without valid insurance.
From what I know it is the same case on most of Europe but it is mostly the norm at the bare minimum to de-restrict these 45kmh vehicles for safety concerns I live in Spain and the police unless you are in a major city, are ok with you tampering with the vehicle as long as you respect the law, have all the paperwork in check and if it is a gas engine, then it shouldn't be too loud
What a wheeze and whatever next ? Oh yes, wiring in a hairdryer motor for a turbo 😆 But seriously, that was really interesting, some good research and a fun drive.
Hi guys, have just discovered your channel in the last 2 weeks I have watched a few of your vlogs I must say they are very well edited and very entertaining. How I found you was my brother told me about the Citroen Ami, so I looked on here and found you two so amazing guys. You now have got me eating Tapenade and also I have a test drive booked for next Saturday to see what it’s like. 😂😂😂😂 Question, how did you get your name Mr Boo(maybe a Halloween fan) . Keep these videos coming as the uk is getting the Ami and people will be discovering you like I did. Better than most programs on the tv. Cheers to you both X Ruth
There's also the Top Gear way! In the old time of Jeremy, Richard and James, they made a Beetle goes faster than a Porsche Turbo S without any engine tuning... they just launched it from a mile high with an helicopter :D
While you can't compare the 2. How do you get a original citroen2CV to do 70.. Downhill on the M4 :D I'd love to have an Ami here in Telford, but sadly, I don't think it'd fit me, the girl AND a wheelchair in the the car!
For me it’s not even a higher top speed, but as you will have likely experienced at some point, some of the roads in and around Monaco can be quite steep, and the 45 twizy for example has at points just not wanted to get me up the hill…during rush hour 🤦🏼♂️ and of course driving up to la Turbie is also a little nicer if you have a little extra power. The Twizy 80 was great for that. Well, just ordered a Topolino, and there is a place near Nice that will “tune” it from 8 HP to 10 and 2 more Nm.
If you check out other videos we’ve done a fair number of massive hills. We’ve yet to meet one it couldn’t do but sometimes it’s a tad slow. We’ve resisted tuning as range matter to us with our adventures
29mph is enough for me thats too fast for my bad driving lol also i cant help but wave to every Ami driver i see as they are so cute these cars ,perfect for getting to work and back or a nice sunday drive in the countryside. 🌈😀
I have a Move Vigorous, its also an electric vehicle. Also 2 seater, but more like a scooter with a roof kinda thing. Carver in the Netherlands also makes a similar kind of vehicle, but it can hang in the corners, like a motorcycle would do. Anyway, same story here. You can buy one of 2 types: one where you do need a license, and one where you dont need a license. However: Both can travel 45 kilometers per hour. And between the one i got, which is the license free variant, and the one where you do need a license, well, to be honest i have not yet found any differences between the 2. (talking about the Move Vigorous 1500 or something like that it was.) We dutch are very very strange people with our very very strange regulations.
@@MeandMonAmi Nothing similar to the Ami. Mine is a trike, cant regenerate. But, fun to drive, no license required. Has 3 speeds, can reach speeds up to 45 kilometers an hour. The carver which i mentioned is also a nice design, and can hang over in corners. You can take corners with that one pretty fast. With mine you risk flipping over if you are not careful. Anyways, i think you guys have a better system, this Ami. But i will only buy one if i can get it to drive a bit faster without too much hassle. It has to at least be able to go 60 kilometers an hour, so i can drive it safely on the roads over here. (people are very impatient in the Netherlands. so don't wanna create a traffic jam)
L6e 45kph L7e 90kph they are designed to do this speed and brake safely. 45kph is quite fast enough for people overtaking and taking photos whilst steering with their knees
@@MeandMonAmi I meant the other drivers😁 I drive 1956 bmw Isetta 300 (four wheel) I’m sure at least one of you remembers these😁so spend most of the time driving at 50kph I get people overtaking, two hands outside the window making a video!
A speed limiter is present as well on the forthcoming Citroen Oli, the SUV companion and big brother to the Citroen Ami, which is set at 68 km.. The real reason for the limiter is safety and the Ami wasn’t designed with speed in mind. Of course, the other aspect is to save battery life, a must with any kind of EV. Now if that’s too confining for your needs and you want to drive faster, get a driver licence and drive a car. That’s the only sensible way of being a competent driver on the roads. If you’re happy with the limitations inherent to a quadricycle, then you’ll never need a licence. I have one for two reasons: a situation may arise when I have to drive and I also will need it for ID purposes, which is why people carry one. Anyway, a good review of what the Ami is capable of but I think folks who own one don’t want to push it at a speed they don’t feel comfortable going. Being safe is more desirable than going fast.
As I say Norman we’re totally happy with the speed but I know many people are confused when it goes super fast sometimes and not others downhill and hopefully this video sheds light on that too.
In the UK I'd not worry about going a little faster down a steep hill, the laws in France don't exactly match up with UK laws. In theory you can drive an Ami on a Full Moped licence in the UK, but Citroen's own insurance will not cover you unless you have a car licence (Ami store disclaimer to check you can get insurance). If you have a car licence then you are allowed to drive a much quicker vehicle anyway. Regarding safety of going faster than 28MPH, many things can go quicker including a bicycle down a steep hill, how sensible it is to try going as fast as possible down a twisting decent in an Ami is very different than letting gravity give it some extra speed on a straight road.
I do feel that there are places in my city where 28mph is too slow to be safe, the UK motorist is not used to sharing the road with Sans Permis type vehicles. 40 and 50mph main roads. I'd be happier if it could do 40 for short bursts on such roads, the rest of the time 28 would be fine.
@@MeandMonAmi You would if You tried to drive it in Sheffield. But I'd never wish that on You, You're too nice to be that nasty to. Keep to Your paradise. It looks lovely.

I just imagined Tim and Mr Boo coasting down the train tracks of Mount Snowdon in Elton doing 60 mph. 😂 BTW, my BMW i3s does a similar yet slightly more elaborate thing by automatically using the disc brakes to simulate the effect of regen braking when the battery is nearly fully charged. You notice that when touching the brake pedal and instead of the softer feel of regen braking the pedal feels much stiffer from the first inch of pedal travel.

We’ll look into it Bill. Windows not as difficult but the one on the side of our ami was professionally done so we’d have to make sure the quality was as good etc
This vehicle is designed for 45 in terms of active and passive security. Engineers always take some margin but security problems go with the square of the speed so 70 instead of 45 mostly exceeds margins. I wouldn't recommend that in any situation.
My e-bike was 25km/h and I was passed by normal bikes and I got p*ssed, too slow. Went to the dealer and asked him if he can upgrade it for me ... he said he can but it is illegal and I will have to buy the chip... I did, When i turn the bike on it is on 25kn/h but if I push on of the buttons for few seconds it goes to 45km/h mode. love it.. anyway as I wrote it is illegal and I can lose my bike, so I do not recomend even that it is so nice.
How is it possible neither of you have a driver license, i can't imagine, i was counting the days till i was 18 😄. By the way i would have the Ami tuned a little (it is quite simple) so i wouldn't annoy other drivers on 80km/u roads, i think 45km/u on such roads can be pretty dangerous.
You are well positioned to go for a full licence as essentially you are already a motorist. The Ami is useful and you clearly can make it work but when the proverbial hits the fan the Ami's narrow comfort zone will leave it wanting. The means to drive properly, even a hire car, is only ever going to be useful.
Ones i tried to push neutral when going downhill than after 4-5 seconds pushed to drive button again and and saw that it might be harmfull to electric motor because the engine had difficulty re-engaging. Dont try! I did not understand why Citroen allowed that!
The title seems unrelated to the content of the video, making it difficult to understand the connection. Could you provide more context or adjust the title to better match the video?.
I wouldn’t be interested in going faster than 28mph here in the Uk but a modification to give it extra power up all hills to actually be able to still do 28 - that would be fantastic and would make me buy one
Mike. far too complicated for this vehicle and you'd end up paying more - everyone has lost the plot over this issue... ! Just love it for what it is for God's sake !!

I live in Katwijk aan Zee in the Netherlands and here it is absolutely completely flat so I will have to settle for 45 km/h and that is fast enough for me!
And for us Henk!
Loving your work
Thanks midlife Crisis!
Electric quadricycle speed restrictions are the same in the Uzk
Thanks.
Magnifique, the pair of yiz are just like Mssrs Daimler & Benz, clinging on for dear life in the quest for mans greatest desire...SPEED ! Great to see uman beans still embracing Danger and waving their fists at it. 🥳
Thanks or starsky and hutch
Thank you for all your videos, I really enjoy watching them! I am considering the Opel Rocks-e variant, and will be completely satisfied sticking to 45kmh in our Dutch flat country :)
I was wondering if you could help with two questions, not related to this video:
Gone all Jeremy Clarkson here with more speed 🤣 Came home from work, checking RUclips, uploaded 2 minuts before, perfect timing 👌
Call me Jezzer
There are companies already delving into the software to make it go faster .
I am sure
Thanks for this. By the way, can Bluetti and Mon Ami crowd fund a power unit for a Ukrainian family by for example a sponsored drive? Alistair.
That’s a great idea.
The Xiaomi M365 eScooter was the first recent (pre-pandemic) "EV" to have its speed limiter hacked. And as you say, it cuts down on range. Can't have everything -- yet. Cheers! [typo edit]
Yup I have an e-bike I could hack but never have
dd tune in Turkey has already cracked the code (as have a couple of others). 86km/h is possible.
thanks. just bought 2 shirts and a tote. Collect Ami on Saturday xx
Synchronicity!
Perfect synchronicity!
Good news William, at last! I’ve still on heard anything, lead date was 12th October
if it was 12 Oct 4 u they seem to be running 2-3 weeks late so at a guess anytime in next 7 fingers x'd !!!
We’re collecting our Pop on Friday; 14 months since we initially paid the £250 reservation fee and 5 months since we placed our order. Happy Days!! 😎
Once saw 134 kph on the GPS on my 2CV6 on a long motorway down hill with the wind behind it...
Normal max is 115 kph on the flat without wind.
The wind will do it!
We could start a new motor racing event not hill climbs, but ami freestyle down hill events at Harewood House.
I used to love Harewood Hill Climbs
If I added a battery to the car which kept the Ami car battery topped up could I continually drive at a higher speed whilst ever it was being topped up?
You cannot charge and drive at the same time so it would require major surgery
A note on mods and 'tampering' with the vehicles systems to make it go faster. You will invalidate your insurance. I don't know about France, but in the UK you will be royally screwed for driving without valid insurance.
Indeed!!
From what I know it is the same case on most of Europe but it is mostly the norm at the bare minimum to de-restrict these 45kmh vehicles for safety concerns
I live in Spain and the police unless you are in a major city, are ok with you tampering with the vehicle as long as you respect the law, have all the paperwork in check and if it is a gas engine, then it shouldn't be too loud
Brilliant, thanks guys 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀
Our pleasure!
What a wheeze and whatever next ? Oh yes, wiring in a hairdryer motor for a turbo 😆
But seriously, that was really interesting, some good research and a fun drive.
Hairdryers are us! Thanks Nick!
Question, how did you get your name Mr Boo(maybe a Halloween fan) .
Keep these videos coming as the uk is getting the Ami and people will be discovering you like I did.
Better than most programs on the tv. Cheers to you both X Ruth
Thanks Ruth. All our fault!;
There's also the Top Gear way! In the old time of Jeremy, Richard and James, they made a Beetle goes faster than a Porsche Turbo S without any engine tuning... they just launched it from a mile high with an helicopter :D
I’m phoning Monaco air now
Excellent info presented in a very entertaining manner:)
Thanks
While you can't compare the 2. How do you get a original citroen2CV to do 70.. Downhill on the M4 :D
I'd love to have an Ami here in Telford, but sadly, I don't think it'd fit me, the girl AND a wheelchair in the the car!
No I think you’d struggle with the wheelchair though I think an adapted version might work for a solo wheelchair user
@@MeandMonAmi There is now a bespoke 2CV van coming into production The Eive
But at near 40 grand! Eeeks!
No car here for the time being!
Yes 29 is a good speed!
@@MeandMonAmi 💯👍😀
A right pair of speed demons you’ve turned into 😂
Mad for it we are!
@@MeandMonAmi 😂
Turkey there is a place unlocking speed directly. I dunno how
Just checked out your merch - what, no Halloween goodies? Not to worry, my disappointment was eased (a bit) by the great video. Thanks!
Mr Boo is working on some Halloween Merch (if she will give up her image rights!)
You can have it 'chipped' so that it can go faster.
Ahhhhhh so if the battery is full there is nowhere for the regen to go
That’s it
I have a Move Vigorous, its also an electric vehicle.
(talking about the Move Vigorous 1500 or something like that it was.)
We dutch are very very strange people with our very very strange regulations.
Interesting I wasn’t sure you had a similar system Bert
(people are very impatient in the Netherlands. so don't wanna create a traffic jam)
ps: only real benefit: it charges in less than 8 hours on normal house sockets. For roughly 50 kilometers range
40mph would make me more likely to purchase.
You just need to live at the top of a hill Tony
Totally agree, my commute to work is all on 30mph roads (which means 35ish for most of us!) 28 is just an annoying top speed.
L6e 45kph L7e 90kph they are designed to do this speed and brake safely. 45kph is quite fast enough for people overtaking and taking photos whilst steering with their knees
Knees!! I have both hands on the wheel
@@MeandMonAmi I meant the other drivers😁 I drive 1956 bmw Isetta 300 (four wheel) I’m sure at least one of you remembers these😁so spend most of the time driving at 50kph I get people overtaking, two hands outside the window making a video!
I think when you see underneath and how it's constructed you wouldn't want to go any quicker than 45kph
It’s a light quad
As I say Norman we’re totally happy with the speed but I know many people are confused when it goes super fast sometimes and not others downhill and hopefully this video sheds light on that too.
can we also have a thinner version of the Oli called the "Stan"?
just get the French driver behind you .....to push ...ha
‘Pardon monsieur can You give us a hand?’
Nora never wore tights! Always stockings! Why do you think Compo was always excited when he met her?
True, STOCKINGS!
Yup. Do not try this at home would be my advice!
I met many, "sans permis" drivers when I lived in France in the 90s, more colloquially known as alcoholics.
Most of them are 14 now..
Thanks Tim. Very interesting - I live at the top of a hill - eek.
Careful how you go;
I do feel that there are places in my city where 28mph is too slow to be safe, the UK motorist is not used to sharing the road with Sans Permis type vehicles. 40 and 50mph main roads. I'd be happier if it could do 40 for short bursts on such roads, the rest of the time 28 would be fine.
I seldom if ever feel it’s too slow in a city.
@@MeandMonAmi You would if You tried to drive it in Sheffield. But I'd never wish that on You, You're too nice to be that nasty to. Keep to Your paradise. It looks lovely.
Tim. what about a hat with the logo Not a baseball but more like a cricket hat for summer sun and roof ORDERS !!!
Yes we are looking into hats. But there’s only 1.5 of us!
@@MeandMonAmi Quite ! sorry I'm just retired with only 2 dogs and a wife with dementia - frudtrated ex- salesman - was amazed at the number of items you had offered on the store as an initial iffering and JUST the right time with Xmas on the way combined with UK Ami launch and your site being the Ami "go to" choice of enthusiasts ...
Boys….
And for you next Ski Sunday video release….. Mr Boo does Mont Blanc down hill…..in Elton😀
We are waiting for snow…
I just imagined Tim and Mr Boo coasting down the train tracks of Mount Snowdon in Elton doing 60 mph. 😂
BTW, my BMW i3s does a similar yet slightly more elaborate thing by automatically using the disc brakes to simulate the effect of regen braking when the battery is nearly fully charged. You notice that when touching the brake pedal and instead of the softer feel of regen braking the pedal feels much stiffer from the first inch of pedal travel.
The regen impressed me a lot
Going from 56-64 felt like as if I were going 140kmh on a country road in my Tesla 😂
Exactly!
Hello guys, watching ur videos since a month now, and i d like to know if u hv a carte grise for this car to hv a low price parking in te city u live in :)
Yes you have a carte grise and we get free parking and charging for the first hour in the prise de nice system
😂 i literally know every little incline on the way to and from my 9 mile commute and when to hit the ‘N’ button, been doing it for 5000 miles 😂
Tim. you miseed an opprtunity of self-promotion by not adding your decal in say 2 x sizes for side of vehicle and window... can you think about adding it to the store ? I'll buy it...
We’ll look into it Bill. Windows not as difficult but the one on the side of our ami was professionally done so we’d have to make sure the quality was as good etc
It reminded me of that clip from Back to the future 😂
Which one?
Does it not have ABS, or is all the braking regen?
Abs?😂 doesn’t even have a servo on the brakes
This vehicle is designed for 45 in terms of active and passive security. Engineers always take some margin but security problems go with the square of the speed so 70 instead of 45 mostly exceeds margins. I wouldn't recommend that in any situation.
My e-bike was 25km/h and I was passed by normal bikes and I got p*ssed, too slow.
Went to the dealer and asked him if he can upgrade it for me ... he said he can but it is illegal and I will have to buy the chip... I did,
When i turn the bike on it is on 25kn/h but if I push on of the buttons for few seconds it goes to 45km/h mode. love it.. anyway as I wrote it is illegal and I can lose my bike, so I do not recomend even that it is so nice.
Your videos are great. Thanks to you and your husband I have learned a lot. I am seriously thinking of ordering one. Thanks again 😃
Thanks John
A collision at 70 in the Ami would leave you like corned beef in a can!
Indeed as it does on a Scooter
Norway got 45 km/t on moped incl mopedcars so....
I was expecting an "Download more RAM" joke
Lol. It’s coming
do you still need tax and insurance?
Yes
Naughty! Naughty! 😁
Indeed it is. I do love our little Ami though
Oh dear more of the same .... why bother tuning in or even "thinking" of the vehicle - different planet sir !!
Ones i tried to push neutral when going downhill than after 4-5 seconds pushed to drive button again and and saw that it might be harmfull to electric motor because the engine had difficulty re-engaging. Dont try! I did not understand why Citroen allowed that!
No I shan’t be doing that!
Overtaken by a little moped at the end there.
A very fast moped!;
looks like fun... there are kids doing +120mph on a motorcycle so if you got balls then idk
The title seems unrelated to the content of the video, making it difficult to understand the connection. Could you provide more context or adjust the title to better match the video?.
70 km is the citroen ami's range
75
the worst thing on tuning the ami is the missing cuteness effect ,if you do so. it is not made to be a " race-potato", enjoy the slow pace of living!
I agrée. I never tuned my e bike for the same reason
Fantastic. Thrilling speeds and a great channel. You go the Schumacher brothers🏎🏎🏎
Éveil knveivels we are! (Forgive the spelling!)
Brilliant video chaps!

70 km not 70 miles by software tweek. Still illegal inside EU,
I wouldn’t be interested in going faster than 28mph here in the Uk but a modification to give it extra power up all hills to actually be able to still do 28 - that would be fantastic and would make me buy one
Yup we’re perfectly happy with the speed and on many hills it’s ok but I agree it can be slow at times but it does get there
Mike. far too complicated for this vehicle and you'd end up paying more - everyone has lost the plot over this issue... ! Just love it for what it is for God's sake !!
