The third full-scale masterpiece, following the success of our first work, "Onihei Hankachō: Yato no Kakueimon," and our second, "Onihei Hankachō: Kumagorō no Kao." This latest drama is crafted from one of the tales in Shotaro Ikenami's short story collection "Nippon Kaitōden," by a team of seasoned professionals including scriptwriter Narito Kaneko and director Akira Inoue. Starring the compelling performances of Takeshi Matsudaira and Akira Emoto, this masterpiece is sure to captivate audiences with its quiet brilliance. Crafted by the skilled artisans of the "Onihei Hankachō" production team, who have been creating period dramas in Kyoto for many years, this flawless work can now only be seen here!
In Honjo, at the modest soba noodle shop "Sanadaya" run by Shōbei (Akira Emoto), a unique tradition is held: only on January 4th each year, the shop serves "Sanada Soba" from Shinshu. However, no customers dared to visit due to the infamously spicy radish broth that accompanied the soba. On January 4th, 1789, a mysterious man (Takeshi Matsudaira) wandered into the shop, fondly reminiscing the taste of "Sanada Soba," and upon learning it was only available on that specific day, he vowed to return the following year. And so, he did, year after year. Then, one day, Shōbei hears of a tattooed thief from an official, Seizō (Tetsu Masuoka), which plants a seed of doubt in his mind. This leads up to January 4th, 1795...

A thief with honour is not a rare act, but it happened and it was possible a long while back in time.. nowadays, word honour has lost its real meaning .. instead, "honourable" comes in front of the names of the biggest thiefs this world has ever seen..

such a poignant tale. could it be that the peasant couple that saved Kogoro was Shobei's parents ?? if Kogoro didn't offer incense to Shobei's wife, he wouldn't know the guy that frequented his shop every 4th of January is actually Kogoro then.

The death penalty for a thief is much high, besides, why the officers don't change the verdict of the death sentence if the raping woman is not true.
