The CE has some serious vibe! I don’t know if it’s the bolt joint or the maple neck, but, the low end feels tighter, and the high-mids feel more ‘in-your-face!’
I've long since stopped believing that a 5k guitar has to $ound $4250 better than a $750 guitar .... The astonishing level of build quality in a $500-$800 guitar today really makes for a pretty fantastic guitar and a stunning performer with selective upgrades ....and you've 'only' invested 1k -$1250+- But... I will have one of those amazing Core models one day.. The difference is there just barely, but very hard to hear it clearly....the level of performance and quality in the entire PRS line is rock solid and incredibly consistent. They are remarkably close....great demo Rhett❤️
SEs do it all. The most versatile guitar ever made. Especially those split humbuckers, which do thin the sound a bit. But i would kill for a Core model. Those guitars are a work of art. The Michelangelo's David of guitars.
Also the fact that he’s using a great quality amp lol. Guitars increase in price due to materials used, how much attention to little details there is, whether or not it’s a mass produced type, consistency across the type (i.e. a $2500 fender will always sound identical to another one of the same type (at least to the human ear), but a $300 Jackson guitar might have one that sounds pretty good and another that can’t even stay in tune properly) amonsgt other factors. Once you get a solid one though, the difference is very small between pretty good and top-end, whereas the difference between an ok amp and a great one is massive.
For prs, the sound only changes between the models with different pickups. It's nice that if you get the cheaper versions, it will still sound awesome. All about the visual preference with prs.
I’d go with the se line anytime. They’re well made and for the price you can’t beat it imo. I played a McCarty se which blew away my Les Paul in playability and sound. And they stay in tune better.
The S2 is where I hear a difference, the last two sound nearly identical, maybe a little more full on the mids and lows, and that’s through my professional headphones, through regular speakers the biggest difference is between the SE and the S2 and then a small jump to the CE24. I own a CE and it’s one of my favorites to play, but if we’re talking perfect tone then I’ve got to give it to my JP15, the tone on that is just crazy.
You can’t tell with high gain but when you play clean it definitely paints the difference clearly. The best advice would be to modify your 85/15 S pickups for the 85/15 TCI and boy you save thousands
Yes, i can hear the difference of you turning the gain up every time. 😂 Also you’re literally the one who made a video about PRS guitars saying they have no character. Other than that I love your videos and appreciate the great content you make, all love brother.
Core model had a bit more "clarity" and "chime," but I don't think the average music fan would notice. The only thing I can say, from experience and as a former SE owner, is that the SE pickups of old were a little more brittle sounding, especially on recordings. But the recent offerings of SE pickups are just incredible. I think the Core model would stand out a bit more in a studio mix, but for a reliable, dependable instrument, the SEs are hard to beat.
I had a custom24 SE awhile back and it sounded amazing and was comfortable to play. I screwed up and decided to install pickup covers and it totally changed the sound and was never the same. It looked better but the magic was gone.
I paid a pretty penny for my suhr collection…. It’s not just about the tone…. The feel and fretwork/intonation across board is extremely important to consider
last 3 start getting so close i cant tell whats what! The all mahogany SE for sure has its own thing going. This company is on fire these days, great guitars.
They all sound great, but can definitely hear distinctions (esp. b/t 1st SE, 2nd SE/S2, and CE/Core due to pickups mainly) that I associate with “better” mainly because I know it’s harder and more expensive to get that specific sound after my years of pickup chasing and modding. That said, I definitely think the $2k CE sounds just as good as a $4k+ Core. At that point it’s just aesthetics, preferred construction, weight, etc.
Just fyi Rhett. The first one is an SE Standard 24 rather than Custom 24. The Custom 24-08 is just a Custon 24 with an extra hundred bucks worth of electronics added.
Could hear the very minor differences on my phone, all of them sounded really good tho which just proves the value the SE 24's are especially with the custom colorways
The CE & Core have the 5% better increase on the top end. But other than that it’s all up to playability. They are incredible across the board. I have an se baritone Mike mushok and it plays better than most cores but I swapped the bridge for a more articulate pickup with more top end. My core custom 22 is unrivaled by any other guitar I’ve ever played. Except MAYBE my made in japan strat. Playability on that thing is insane
This is the magic of PRS guitars. You can obtain several different sounds from the same guitar. Likewise you can obtain the same sound from several different guitars.
I’d be more interested in hearing how different they feel because they all sound more or less the same. Except the fifth one sounded more crispy. I have a PRS Se and love the way it feels.
Yeah. I noticed at the CE & S2, they jumped up in dynamics then at the Core $4999 it went up I more. I could tell the difference in my collection as well. PRS One SE and a PRS Core 08' Mira. In both playability and sound quality.
Pickups, electronics and amp/speaker for dual humbucker guitars is where you notice a big difference, not the prestige of being expensive. Setup and turning stability right out of the case is where the money plays a part, but doesn't really change the tone, in my opinion of course!
Yup. Shows the quality of his lower end guitars, but the core had a more detailed tone than all the rest. Going from import PU's to core PU's made a difference then adding the core woods to the mix finalized it. I have a really nice 2007 R8, but the 3 core PRS's I've kept really shows up the limited tone of the Gibson. Don't get me wrong the Gibby is a great guitar, BUT.........
PRS sounds amazing 👏 I'd say it's more about the quality timber that increases the price. Rocks are everywhere and electronics are cheap, its the nice timber from our trees that's in short supply. What timber quality is in the most expensive guitar vs the cheap one ?
Have DGT SE, SE CE24, SE Swamp Ass, S2 Standard 22, McCarty 594 Thinline, McCarty 10-Top. I enjoy my SEs and the S2 Standard the most mainly because I'm not as worried about beating them up.

The difference is there just barely, but very hard to hear it clearly....the level of performance and quality in the entire PRS line is rock solid and incredibly consistent. They are remarkably close....great demo Rhett❤️
These Guitars look lovely 😊
SEs do it all. The most versatile guitar ever made. Especially those split humbuckers, which do thin the sound a bit. But i would kill for a Core model. Those guitars are a work of art. The Michelangelo's David of guitars.
The amp is the winner here
What? The tone was horrible
Near nothing on youtube ever sounds near as good as it does in person
Idk to my ear I like the CE24 the best. It's got some more snap to it that I really like. Would be great for black metal.
Ce & Core have the same pickups dude lol. Like the exact same. The only reason CE is cheaper is because it’s bolt on and not neck thru
@@fender7695 Thats what makes it sound slightly snappier
Sounding great as usual.
Great comparison video!!! I love that you played "My Sacrifice"... Tremonti is awesome!!! 😁
Wow! Great comparison! Great song to use! Thank you! 👍🏻
Psh with the way you play, they all sound fantastic! You could make my first $200 guitar sound great lol
What a beautiful sound!
For prs, the sound only changes between the models with different pickups. It's nice that if you get the cheaper versions, it will still sound awesome. All about the visual preference with prs.
For the people asking for the song, it is My Sacrifice by Creed
That core is truly masterpiece
You can’t tell with high gain but when you play clean it definitely paints the difference clearly. The best advice would be to modify your 85/15 S pickups for the 85/15 TCI and boy you save thousands
That was delightful.
This a best advertisment for 5 guitars at once
Yes, i can hear the difference of you turning the gain up every time. 😂 Also you’re literally the one who made a video about PRS guitars saying they have no character. Other than that I love your videos and appreciate the great content you make, all love brother.
I liked the PRS.
Tremonti brilliant guitarist, loved creed back in the day, still got both there albums👌
"Hmm... why does this riff sound familiar... and remind me of high school..."
My sacrifice by CREED
last 3 start getting so close i cant tell whats what! The all mahogany SE for sure has its own thing going. This company is on fire these days, great guitars.
man this progression is heavenly
Sounds great!🎉
They all sound great, but can definitely hear distinctions (esp. b/t 1st SE, 2nd SE/S2, and CE/Core due to pickups mainly) that I associate with “better” mainly because I know it’s harder and more expensive to get that specific sound after my years of pickup chasing and modding. That said, I definitely think the $2k CE sounds just as good as a $4k+ Core. At that point it’s just aesthetics, preferred construction, weight, etc.
This just highlights how good the SE series is. For me if I was buying it would be the S2 series.
Just fyi Rhett. The first one is an SE Standard 24 rather than Custom 24. The Custom 24-08 is just a Custon 24 with an extra hundred bucks worth of electronics added.
Exactly
Huge improvement in tone going to the CE 24. Custom didn’t sound much different and the lower specs all sounded very similar to each other.
They all sound great , but the overtones get so much more impressive as you go up in value.
Bingo
Yep! I bet you can feel it too!
Could hear the very minor differences on my phone, all of them sounded really good tho which just proves the value the SE 24's are especially with the custom colorways
Nice tone, and good riff. A guilty pleasure for sure lol
Yes, I can tell the difference. That’s why I own a Paul Reed Smith would library. Flamed maple neck and gray to black fade with a Floyd rose.
I saw creed recently.
Bad ass concert. Would recommend if you’re a fan.
This is the magic of PRS guitars. You can obtain several different sounds from the same guitar. Likewise you can obtain the same sound from several different guitars.
The grey one is my choice...but any will be right too!
I’d be more interested in hearing how different they feel because they all sound more or less the same. Except the fifth one sounded more crispy. I have a PRS Se and love the way it feels.
To my old ears it seems the higher the price point the richer and more spacious the tone - thanks from Australia
Don’t really notice much after S2. That will do.
The new SE 24 standard satin is $499.00 with a nice gig bag. Very nice. I'm buying one for my birthday in July.
Damn what song is that riff ?? It’s beautiful
Fuckin creed 🤣
@@GluedBarstoolwhat song name
@@ezcu1733 my sacrifice.
My sacrifice.
Yeah. I noticed at the CE & S2, they jumped up in dynamics then at the Core $4999 it went up I more. I could tell the difference in my collection as well. PRS One SE and a PRS Core 08' Mira. In both playability and sound quality.
Nice video me man....didn't know you were into the Tremonti....well done.
Those sound very *very* close, but knowing the compression RUclips puts on the vids, maybe being in the room you noticed more difference Rhett?
Amazing sounds❤
This is why prs guitars are my favourite
At first blush, they sound really really close.
The SE, SE Custom 24, and S2 all have the same pickups
PRS sounds amazing 👏
I'd say it's more about the quality timber that increases the price. Rocks are everywhere and electronics are cheap, its the nice timber from our trees that's in short supply. What timber quality is in the most expensive guitar vs the cheap one ?
The S2 custom 24 sounded best to my ears. Open and articulate
you may not hear much difference, but there so much more than just the sound, the build quality, the neck feel, fretboard.etc
Have DGT SE, SE CE24, SE Swamp Ass, S2 Standard 22, McCarty 594 Thinline, McCarty 10-Top. I enjoy my SEs and the S2 Standard the most mainly because I'm not as worried about beating them up.
