I mean lowkey the fact that when you die and you're forced to restart could be played almost like a "all you need is kill" type situation where you can be that character that is ground-hog daying throughout the whole game. Thats pretty neat!
Bro I love this so much. You sounded like my mum when I let her play one of my games. “Is he a bad guy?” “Why is this guy trying to kill me?”. The only difference is that she also says things like “oh isn’t that guy just adorable? Can we make friends with him?” Great video bro. Enjoyed it
I remember being a kid around the time this came out and being blown away by the concept of the controller. I saw a ton of coverage of the game on the channel “G4” when it was in it’s golden era. I believe there was also a Japanese only release that let you play online multiplayer!
You know what's crazy? Not only was the online-only sequel released worldwide, PEOPLE STILL PLAY IT! They shut down Xbox Live on the original Xbox years ago, but people connect via their PCs to keep playing. Garrett, wanna play that to make sequel‽
I must say I clicked on this video since it intrigued me and was on my recommendations. I watched the whole video only to realize at the end that it was made by a creator with less than 1k subs. Unbelievable, video quality was just as good as million dollar channels.
I've heard of steel battalion before, seen the controller - but I don't think I actually watched gameplay of it until now. I'm almost surprised that it's an early 2000s game, looking at the graphics - it has that particular desaturated look to it that characterized the "real is grey" jokes borne of gears of war's contemporaries some half a decade later. Anyways, thanks for doing the retrospective! It's neat finally seeing what all those buttons actually *do*.
I saw this at a GameStop years ago. It was used, sitting in a cage. If it were now or I had money back then I would have snapped it up as a collectors.
I've been obsessed with this controller since I first learned about the game on X-Play so many many years ago. I don't think I can justify paying resale prices for it but I always sort of cross my fingers I'll come across one at a yard sale or a secondhand store.
Something to note: you can move at high speeds and turn by slide stepping right before you fall over. Your mech will catch itself if you do it fast enough
This looks like a game for the kind of people who leak classified documents to win arguments on message boards
(This was a great video though!)
That's such an accurate description lol. Real War Thunder fan energy for sure.

Anybody else seeing The Forever Winter in this? Could be a super interesting immersive crossover/collaboration. Good work regardless, fun video.

Yeah I had those questions about every .0002 seconds. Thanks Pim!

Thank you! Aiming for high quality is the goal so it means a lot.
my dad made me a cockpit out of an exercise machine, an office chair and some angle iron, and its exhilarating to use.
Bro i love your dad
@@Darnder I love him too.

Got lucky on an eBay auction a year ago and picked this up for cheap the game is so fun and agree it wouldn't be as good without the controller

Maybe the time for 200 dollar controllers for a very spesific game is no more but I wish we had realistic mecha games for vr
