- Detecting a 1500s castle which was occupied by and used as a Nazi headquarters during WW2 was probably the most historic place I've ever been given permission to detect. Heres the video.

Hey dan! you have given me hours of entertainment. keep up the great videos! i love watching them. always makes me smile.
Great vid Dan, Simply a beautiful castle and an awesome place to have the opportunity to dig! Thanks for sharing your experience and HH! Any more detail or ID on the coin! Looked like a nice Silver piece!
Hi Dan. Great Video! I love it when you go abroad and hunt with your friends. And the Cliffs of Dover are absolutely spectacular. Thx for adding that to the video. Cheers Dan. ttyl -Drew
You did a very good job on these videos Dan. I've quite enjoyed them. I would like to see a "round up" of all your finds. I've lost track of them by now. Those places were very interesting.
your button is a french light infantry button from the 1700s but after the french revolution , similar ones have also been found in america that fell off of french uniforms during the revolutionary war , so your button is from some time around the late 1700s
The little boy look's like family Dan? Watching you travel around all over is very exciting. The places you visit are fantastic. It's good to be Deep Digger Dan these day's.
Great hunt an fun at the same time, good luck Dan, keep making these vids they are a true gem.
Cool finds. Sweet permission. Very nice hosts. Happy Hunting brother,DD...
Hello dan . As always another great video . This time with some proper friends ! You have to be a gifted person to make friends in other countries by way of videos on metal detecting ! I enjoy watching your videos , with you it's always we don't know what is in store for us ! Also enjoy your cooking videos ' that pastry must have been like lava ! Lol you took a bite , then you vanished beforehand eyes , all I saw was a hand reaching for the water ! Lol that was so funny ! Thanks for being you '
Dan, I'm watching from the USA. Your videos are so interesting. The Nazi stuff is forbidden by most pawn shops here, because the owners are usually Jewish. I see them as real treasures of history. Keep it up. You're a joy to listen to.
Yes! I love your videos Dan. I'm not even a metal detectorist, and I love watching your stuff. Keep making good videos, and your income will increase.
I actually found the bridge by the castle at the end of the video to be the most intresting object. What an amazing piece of craftsmanship
Deep Digger Dan, I very lovely button. Very great locations that you've been digging in lately.
Nice square cuts. lol made my day. Cheers. :)
You Sir Dan are true gem on youtube
Good video Dan. I'm jealous of the places you get to detect.
Great video Dan. I am a bit envious though, I wish I could be lucky enough to metal detect around a place that was built around 1547.
Great video! Love these shallow digger dave finds, only recently found you, last night
Great videos Dan!
The thing you found @1.30 is a clock hand. You can see the 'pointy' end where it shows the time, and the other end has the pin where is fixes to the clock face.
Some of the everyday items looked familiar but u'll enjoy finding out yourself. THANKS FOR THE VIDS., EH! bg
Once again spot on video shallow digger dan. haha! Best you tuber ever in my opinion =)
wow go deep diggerdan you really in my oppionion. a great metal detectorest fooled me with the bridge.
Dan you seem like a swell dude, turning into a big fan. The mild chauvinism is disheartening though. I'm sure plenty of ladies and girls find this just as thrilling!
You are the best dan. My wife and I are huge fans. Love your videos!!! Staby staby stab
LOVE THE CHAUVINISM, keep up the good work, fuk that dumb broad.
Sometimes the fans make a person want to stay as much as the "talent". Or, not.
Really enjoy your videos!
looks like you had a great time hope you have many many more to come GL&HH...Wayne
Great video . Thx for showing a bit of France. It's brilliant
The Chateau at Grimaud has relics dating back to the Roman era. I did not even have to use my metal detector - the finds were so readily accessible .
Another great video, D.D. Dan!
I just started to watch you Dan your quit the character to watch. I enjoy watching you your very entertaining. Thank you. From Palmetto Florida :-)
Kenneth Hough Dan your quit the character
Kenneth Hough Dan your quit the character
That button was fantastic Dan.
Be well,
Al-Fu
EJOYED THE VIDEO AS ALWAYS...YOUR AN AWESOME PERSON DAN!
Love the way the kid looks doped...
***** ghhghhhhbgbvg
that kid is from my land from holland :) laat je hooren holland !!!
ive only been watching for 1:24 minutes and already love this guy.
the little boys facial expressions had me in histerics
I like that Patrick. He gets it done. GL&HH
In 1966 I recall the moat at Higham Ferrers castle being excavated. Among the relics recovered were steel breastplates and musket balls from the English civil war of 1664. Castles always have relics for discovery if their holders were involved in military conflict.....
The little kid is awesome, he should have his own channel. I would sub.
That gate hinge, looked like a clock hand, right down to the bit sticking out near the end that would be in the clock face.
I would have loved to see the inside of that castle next time go to King Henry of France castle if it's still around I would love to travel to all the historic castles an metal detect how cool would that be
is dat een stoel of niet?
Emilios dat weet ik niet
This is June 2022 and I’m back listening to deep digger Dan love it love it
Nice video. When I was stationed in Germany in the early 90's we heard stories about people finding crates of STG 44's still wrapped in cosmoline. If you get a chance to head to the Rheinland-Pfalz area in between Landstuhl and Kindsbach off of the B-40 highway there were many bunkers in the hills leading up to the Bahn Radar sites. You would have to be careful though since that area was bombed. We had a German bunker from WW2 that we returned to the Germans in Kindsbach. I was one of the last Americans in the site before we gave it back. I had heard that the owner sealed it off with concrete though.
This is some dutch stuff:
Hallo Deep Digger Dan, ik ben helemaal weg van je filmpjes en ik kijk ze elke keer met mijn vader. Ik en mij vader zoeken ook met de metaaldetector, eigenlijk altijd naar ww2 spullen. We hebben al heel veel gevonden. Ik heb de garret AT pro en mijn vader heeft de Minelab Etrac. Veel succes met de trip naar Berlijn. Houdoe, Lucas.
Lol that was dutch.
I think that " Jerry can " is a bloc with something inside! 😮😀
Apparently the Castle is for sale - requiring extensive repairs - was used as a Gestapo prison not a Nazi headquarters - for that you would have to head to Himmlers Nazi fortress of fear Wewelsburg in Paderborn where the Deaths head rings are supposed to be all 10,000 of them - each one worth a fortune thats where we are headed this year for some tasty metal detecting.
Garry Gemmell so? Any luck?
Man im in school for nursing but doing what you do is a dream of mine- I hope I make it there one day! Keep up the good stuff its beyond interesting and this world will run out of WW2 artifacts if it weren't for people like you.... crazy shit man
that kid scares me lol
Hes awesome! Apart from the fact that he appears out of nowhere a lot of the time lol
Hi Dan use to metal detect in the early 80s watched your review on detectors and you said that you did not feel the garrett AT Pro was not good on the wet sand .... what would be a good all rounder around the same price. I must say love all your videos you should have your own show on SKY or Dave Channel keep up the good work And get some GOLD ! lol
The writing on the wooden box whitch includes the two bottles in the museum (8:20) means: sulfur-acid
Another great video! But I never doubted it for a moment. =)
like your comment about the dutch, Dan, i'm an ex-patriot who has been living in holland for 35 years and it is a strange language an also difficult to learn, but i can translate from dutch-english and from english to dutch
Shallow Digger Dave :D
Nice tune there, 'my metal detector and I." Ever thought of expanding it, two or three more verses?
That French coin is most definately NOT gold, it could be copper, and it looks like a 20 centimes coin. Which basically translates to 20 cents. It is also fairly recent. So far I could see it in your video, I am guessing at 80s up to start Euro era.
Would have loved to join you guys! And I can translate a lot of the Dutch to you as well, my English it pretty good. Also i can use some nice finds for a change! haha
Another great video.
are you using the same metal detector in all your expeditions?.. that's awsome!
this video is hilarious... I like when you cut to patrick cleaning the jerry can in a swampy puddle...
awesome video Dan, wish i was close enough to join you.
Was that kid eating mud? hahaha look at all the mud around his lips hehehe. The little boy is great . He should be a regular star on your videos hehe.
Gotto love That Dutch, English accent.
Youre the best digger ever man love te accent and everything!
Hi dan could you tell me the locations you visited in this visit museums etc. I used to go bunker exploring & miss it so much.
ok cheers anyway
It's nice to see a englishmen with a dutch person that have the same intrested in metal detecting.
could you offer more information an where in france the castle is located , its history intrest me.
the solid top thing - maybe a calibration weight for a scale?
Come to Nova Scotia. I know roughly where the military buried a bunch of tanks and stuff after WWII.
They just getting better and better shallow digger dan lol keep em coming. Nick fae scotland
Thanks, about to head to bed and will surely see that child in a nightmare
11:16 strange find, has French words yet has the Axehead and bundled reeds like the Italian dictator used to symbolize his nation. Bundles reeds to symbolize collective strength and the axehead to symbolize power. odd, but a great find!
1318, Looks like a fuel can. Shape has not changed much in the last 60 years. I have a few of those, cool.
Hey dan, I just want an idea on how much your metal detector was as me and my father are saving for a good one and are looking forward to getting started.
what is that box ????? Im curious !!
Dan :D you the man!
DAN THE MAN! haha i love your videos. just started watching last week and I've been hoooked.
7:43. Atlantic wall?
what's the model of metal detector you use dan and how much can I buy one for?
The button is a french revolutionary era button and still used during the napoleonic period.
Hi Dan, I have an AT Pro but I'm saving towards an Excalibur II for underwater detecting. I noticed the Excalibur II you were using in this video and my question is this. Between the AT Pro and the Excalibur II, which one do you like best on land? Is the Excalibur worth the money? Thanks, keep the vids coming!
Dan? Do you know good metal detecting spots near Warwickshire?
What episode did he find a flame thrower?
my wife loves your videos!
hey dude Is it possible to get a wind filter on the camera if able? Its really hard to hear you sometimes because of the wind :( Great videos though dude! keep them coming :)
