  • It was great to meet so many positive, enthusiastic and motivated students at Christ's Hospital School today. The students and in particular the band members I met today made us Old Blues most welcome.
Thank you for such an enjoyable day and I wish all students well with their future studies and career.

The drum majors are something else. The whole performance restores your faith in youth.

It certainly is! You should enjoy it there with its great sense of community. You’ll get a great opportunity and I guarantee that you’ll be sad when you leave. I wish you well.

I wonder how many continue playing an instrument after school? Brass and woodwind players need to keep playing to retain the musculature of the mouth, otherwise you lose it. And even percussionists need to keep practising. Keeping time is honed with practice like any other instrument.

I didn’t learn to play a musical instrument while I was there, but I wish I had learned to play the piano. I am learning now.

@@jpptubie No I didn't learn at school either. Did parents have to pay extra for music lessons way back when? I probably couldn't have coped with trying to read music anyway. I took up guitar much later, in my case flamenco where you learn via a shorthand system called tablature and just having the rhythm part demonstrated to you. It's a folk art after all.

@@davidredshaw448 I honestly do not remember if parents had to pay a supplement. However, my parents had an 80-90% remission of school fees and they may have found it hard to pay for music lessons.
