  • I've been struggling lately. Olivia's dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, we were uprooted from our home in San Francisco to Texas in the dead of summer to help support her parents, Olivia's physical and mental health has taken a nose dive as her bipolar and autoimmune diseases flare up, while I'm trying to hold together three businesses, a new product launch, and being there for the family.
It's been a lot. Yet there's one tool that I reach for again and again to make sense of the most chaotic and darkest of times: Mind Maps. Today, I'll show you how to untangle your own emotions - by going through a real time Emotion Mind Mapping session with Olivia.
This map is for the brave...those ready to venture through some uncomfortable feelings. But if you follow me through this journey, I promise you that the other side lies lightness and understanding. The very process of mapping out your emotions is how you can offload enormous stress, sadness and anger. There's no therapist in the room. Just you and the piece of paper in front of you. It's your chance to be honest and let it all loose.
We laid bare our experiences and didn't hold back during this session. And we hope that you can use our experience to transform your own suffering into something positive too.

    HELLO:
I’m Sheng, an ex-tech strategist who's discovered that time and money don't add much to the finer things in life. I’ve worked at companies like Google, Niantic Labs (the makers of Pokemon Go) and Deloitte for 10 years and it’s taken me all around the world through many facets of life (including a 3-year stint in London 🇬🇧). I want to share with you the best of what I learned (and learning!) on this channel.

Hahaha as you can tell Olivia’s the opposite of me and swears like a sailor. Yet she’s also honest and vulnerable because she says whatever is on her mind. I get my courage to share from her :)

Often we find it difficult to accept the actual reason/ truth behind a feeling even when we realise it. We keep looking to relate it to something else or blame something/ someone who actually has nothing to do with it. Accepting our emotions and the reason behind them will help untangle those difficult emotions.
In the last couple of years, I had to pay more attention to my emotional well-being than anything. Writing down my emotions and mapping them has helped me accomplish my emotional goals. I feel at ease when I do it. I do not feel anymore that people have to understand me. I devise my own ways to not bother about others understanding me and move on in life.
Your videos about mapping have really been helpful lately.
By the way, the lamp light behind you guys is quite distracting.

The sibling interaction agitating is true. Those are little things that happen so often that they irritate you. It affects everything you want to do in a day.

Thanks for chiming in. That acceptance is key after the awareness and recognition. That’s when we can begin to truly grow past whatever it is that’s bothering us.
I agree 💯 with being emotionally self sufficient when it comes to acceptance. As the poet Rilke noted, we are indeed alone in the most personal of matters. Much better to acknowledge that rather than fight it.
Interestingly enough, this sentiment was echoed by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (the creator of the 5 stages of grieving) during my research into the death and dying experience. The Stoics realized this also, and so that philosophy is based on seeing things for what they are and accepting and indeed loving fate.
It’s interesting my friend that these realizations have freed me to love those around me more readily, without the fear of my heart broken or expectations dashed. Greater connection has resulted.
Thanks for sharing and letting me know about the light. It was our first time filming in the new Houston home so tweaks will be made!

@@ShengHuang Thank you so much for taking the time to craft a beautiful response. It is indeed great to know your knowledge and experience. Also, learning about the studies behind our emotional and psychological behaviour has always intrigued me.
I know sometimes how frustrating and painful it can be while you take care of someone you love. I hope Olivia and you find lots of courage and peace effortlessly to deal with all that you guys are going through right now.
