"If I was- if the air was water, and the cars had to float, then I would make a very wide and flat car. But I'm not making the car, I'm making the water. So I would make the water... really dense, so that lots of things could float on top of it. And how do you make things dense? With TRIANGLES" I am simply in awe
Fourteen minutes in and he starts to discover how math treats air as a liquid in aeronautics. He has gone through thousands of years of human mathematics in such a small span of time. Actually inspiring.
we live at the bottom of a boiled ocean also fun fact: at the bottom of the sea are lakes of concentrated salty water underneath the sea water, that just straight up looks like a lake viewed at night. they tried to push a camera thru one of them once to look inside & the submarine couldn't because it floated on top of the surface -- the salt inside of the lake said "hey bro im more dense than u, stay where u belong up there"
Funniest video I've seen all month. Watching him actually crush the leaderboard by brute forcing the only thing he knows about bridges is fucking hysterical
I did a back and chest workout today and him saying “wait I’m the braincel” made me laugh so hard I had to curled up and just laughed while being in immense pain.
how it actually works: go to 7:36. see how the tippy top of the road sits right on top of the tip of a triangle of wood? when the car is on the green dot (where the triangle tip connects), its weight is being distributed down the two sides of the triangle underneath it evenly, & when that weight hits the botton two angles of the triangle it is being converted into leftward & rightward force, which if the bottom horizontal layer of wood weren't there would make the bridge split in half under the car. but because the bottom horizontal layer of wood is there connecting the triangles together, instead that outward force is attempting to stretch the bottom piece of wood, and wood, while highly weak to splintering directions of force, is highly resistant to being compressed. the reason it matters which side the arch supports are on: on that same bridge where the road is going upward slightly, the arch on the bottom is a smaller shape than the road it's attached to, which means the car's weight it being applied downward and in, squeezing the bridge tighter and therefor making the pieces fit together more tightly. if the arch supports were on top it would be a larger shape, meaning that the car's force would be getting transferred from a smaller shape up into a bigger shape which means the force will be pushing the triangles away from eachother instead of toward eachother making the attachments looser instead of tighter, & would therefor pop the panel of the horizontal piece of arch support out of its spot if strained & without that cap-piece the structure is just a pile of sticks
God damnit i hate how some incredible new comment l content comes out on Twitch / library, but i can't watch it on NL's RUclips for another few days 😤😤😤😤
I laugh every time a bridge collapses the way a baby laughs when you play peekaboo
"Take it up with Archimedes" is an unhinged rebuttal
Genuinely might be the funniest one-off I've ever heard from NL
Using an arched bridge for the bell curve of the intelligence meme is INSPIRED thumbnail design
+2 to you librarian
Holy shit I didn't even see that it's so amazing
The curve do be arching tho.

Having no hair allows for more thermal overhead, so his brain is always overclocked
+2 for thermodynamics

@@tabula_rosaThat's actually what the "goo" oceans in SpongeBob are

I've been watching NL since the very beginning - since Super Meat Boy and beyond.
A decade+ later it feels great being able to see some edited content
Egyptologists everywhere are shaking in their boots

I was waiting for him to say water is a triangle because its H20 when he started to cook at the end.
You found the missing link!
when he just made the triangles bigger and it worked. i felt that
There's something so fucking funny about referring to structural engineering principles as "bottom triangle meta"
The free lunch of engineering
13:57 made me burst out laughing Jesus Christ.
Chat is The Arch Arc Arch nemesis

ARCimedes's nemesis
12:42 He can't keep getting away with it!
Max stress 100%
How did he figure that out? Is he a genius?
@@somegnome3398 Juxtaposition towards a genius, sure
i still laugh at the polybridge playthrough he did (i think it was a game like this) so i already know this will be guaranteed gold
This is why I love librarian, little tasters of the big pogs to come
This is PolyBridge 3, I think it’s out in Early Access atm
Its so funny to watch like 20 people say something in chat then later everyone says "it was one guy"
Him getting one guyed about small triangles is so funny to me
11:37 the moment he just beams with joy at the wood arch kills me
he makes the arches, but he doesnt make them REACH THE WALL so they just take the full strain of the car instead of resting on the wall.
if u think about it a triangles is the simplest arch u can make
OH MY
this thumbnail is so good man holy brsh
Yeah the fuckin arch-luminati behind him cracked me up man
Your thumbnail is goated

Wake up honey. New season of Archer just dropped.
"Hey, stop me if you've heard this one."
there's strength in arches
Dude i just KNOW nl would be goated on taskmaster
Arch- is a prefix meaning the best to ever do it
Chat desperately trying to teach NL about statics through metaphor is why we can't have Super Mega Baseball content.
Engineers don't want you to know this one simple trick.
I love how NL always messes up the midcel meme, I know it’s deliberate but it’s a great bit
he predicted galvanized steel and wooden veneers
Absolutely golden content. The arch era
What if, you wanted to get into Heaven, but God said: how about instead some arches and triangles?
Bro what do you think heaven is made of
i wish this were 30 minutes longer
I hate what this has done to his ego
WHY ARE YOU ANGRY? HE'S RIGHT

My man really said 3 stacks of triangles huh

Btw, steel isn't an alloy. There's no other metals in there. (Well, there can be but it's not a part of what makes steel steel.)
