I’ve made a few painting mistakes along my way as I was trying to identify my aesthetic. I painted a wall Whataburger orange, and I painted a wall black, the orange was a huge mistake, but the black was epic. We were having wall to wall, floor to ceiling book cases built in. The wall that they were going to be built in front of was pretty heavily textured, and thinking how awesome it would be to have a black background for books and accessories I painted away, and not long after a friend was visiting and asked if we had put slate on the wall, so I knew then that I had achieved exactly what I wanted to. A few months ago I watched a video on YT of a woman who had painted her bedroom black and she decorated her walls with an odd assortment of wooden picture frames. It was a really beautiful room.
I love that you are enjoying your new life in Tulsa. It must feel great having the Freedom to make your own decisions with what you plan and buy and do. Continued Blessings to you!
Again Rebecca you show us the design principles. Of how to decorate bookcases and Build in, With style and the effect that is very peaceful in your home. This is the reason why we all love you. The books are a different shade of white Which is a Excellent idea because you will never find that many books in white. Why not lt's your home, Do what you wanna do. Again thank you so much for showing us the way in design and function. Jim
In your design style there is so much to love. I try to follow your ideas, particularly those that bring a sense of calm to my living spaces. With the outside world so crazy, we need that calm and that serenity for a home that is a sanctuary from the craziness.
Your home is beautiful & lighting is something I am on the hunt for & I want to make some changes over the summer. Thank you! You home is beautiful & unique!
Rebecca I love the way the books in the music room looks. They looks like keys of the piano. Perfect! Really like the built-ins and love the symmetric on them. Love these videos!!! Have a great weekend!😊
I am so happy you decided to stay in that home, the new one would be nice of course but that home is soooooo beautiful, this house has everything anyone ( with great taste ) needs, love everything, every piece, every book, every lamp, every cushion...perfection and I hope you feel happy because you have a great home.
My house is super eclectic and learning how to create balance has helped to it from being busy. Eapecally the turned books! Every time I learn something new from you and integrate it my theme park of a hone becomes more serene and allows guests in my home to notice and love the things I have displayed so much better.
I learnt that adding a lamp to shelving is a great idea. I found a battery operated lamp (usb charged) fits nicely in a dark corner, placed on a little stack of books, voila ❤️💛💖
As always, I thoroughly enjoy all your videos. LIGHTING!!! It's key to adding beauty and elegance. Speaking of elegance, I really like your "casual" elegance ...
I love your crane lamp and the acrylic lamps. I also love the clean look, which is what I'm leaning towards. As for the books, I like that idea. Thank you for your tips.❤❤❤❤ ❤
I agree with wanting a peaceful, clean, serine look to my home. Especially when it comes to shelving and built-ins. They often become busy and over stimulating for me. My favorite tip was adding a lamp to an unlighted bookshelf. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😊
Beautiful simple elegant bookshelves. Scale of art is nice. Not being overcrowded is restful to the eye. Following your concept has greatly elevated the cabinets and bookcases in my home.
Thoroughly enjoyed and learned. I agree about the lighting in book cases and shelves and color, textures that match. You are amazing and always teach and give fabulous and great ideas.
Thank you, Rebecca. I like seeing specifics. I just love the rectangular lamps in your music room. They're beautiful. Everything has such a clean and balanced look. I like the look of the books turned around too. I think it's a great design element.
I get You Rebecca. ❤ I agree with the fact that books can be overwhelming and when you have so many shelves to fill why not turn books into non obtrusive art. You dont need to read the name of the book to appreciate the impact and texture that paper and variations of its tonality can give. You do You.
I think turning the books around is brilliant. It calms the eye. Thank you. Love your videos even though I rarely watch them beginning to end...no time to, that's all. Keep going Rebecca.
You are amazing. Everything looks like a million dollars. Thank you for all your advise and taking the time to share your home and other projects with us. Stay safe.
Good Lord! I don't know how you do it! I've been with you for 15 years, and am never disappointed. Please do a beautiful decorating book, or a Christmas book, or better yet do both!! There are no books that would beat yours.
When you yelled at ALEXA, my ALEXA said, "sure, what would you like me to turn off?" 😂 after 2 plus years, I am now a DESIGN SESSIONS member! Love all of your content. 🙏🏼💖Stay safe out in OK, the sun is finally out in Oceanside, CA! 🌞🌊
I absolutely love your design ideas...especially the books turned, I have also incorporated that idea in my bookshelves and look divine. It's just a matter of preference. Some will love it others will not, but that's ok.
Rebecca, Love each and every Video. Your black bold wall with the gold book cases with glass shelves. The decor is even but not alike. It's Eye Candy. Thank You for sharing with us ❣️Nancy
So glad you did this video about decorating bookcases! I have a bookcase that I absolutely adore and have struggled with for years. I'll be using these tips for sure. Especially the lighting features. Keep doing you!
Awwweee thank you. I’m so glad you found this video helpful. Here’s to your efforts on styling your bookcases. I’d love to see photos of how it turns out 🙌🏻 email me at hello@kinwoven.com 👍🏻
This is perfect! We bought a huge display wall for our tv and decor items and finished building it today this video couldnt have come at a better time!
I love your idea of turning the books around to create a more cohesive look. Because of seeing you do this in prior videos I have done it too in my built-in and it made a world of difference! I LOVE it!❤❤❤
@user-je8we3zs4s Books placed backwards on a shelf is one of the most moronic decor ideas I have ever come across! What is the point? If you don't read, don't fake it. If you want a single colour (white) get wallpaper books. I read all my books and keep the ones that mean something to me. They are not just decor. Sorry to disagree.
I love your style, and it’s great to see your previous work. It would be interesting to see a video(s) on the best of the best and what changed in your style as you changed ❤.
You are so amazing. I love the way you decorated your built-ins and shelving units. They are so cohesive and calming on the eyes. I love that you turn your books backward because I like the black lines surrounding the variations of white pages. Thank you so much for sharing this information with so many. I will definitely be able to use this information in my new home because I now have built-ins and a very tall cabinet, which I will have to decorate that I didn't have my my previous home. You are truly good at what you do. God bless you.
Love the colors you chose in your home, I took some ideas from your built- ins , we bought a home in Florence Arizona and it has built-ins, so I`ve been buying different colors of pots and plants , its a one story house but its big. Today went to Michaels`s and got two pots for half off. So enjoying the journey of decorating. Thank you for the ideas you shared.
Rebecca, I’ve been watching you on RUclips for years now. I positively love your design style. I am a perfectionist with OCD and relate well to your style. I’m not a member of the Design Sessions, but I’ve been considering taking advantage for more than a year. Best wishes for continued success in all that you do. God has richly blessed you!
I am glad you're not moving. Love all your shelves and styling. I do see the value of symmetry and have used the style more than any other style. Maybe because it's easy or maybe so sensible.
Got me thinking about how to curate my trinkets a bit more. I love displaying things but looking at the two styles of shelves I do find the more minimalist look actually feels better ❤
Dear Rebecca, thank you so much for this video. I am a menber of the design-sessions, but still and again I learn with every video from you. I am so glad about this. I wish you all the best: health, wealth an lots of luck and happiness !!! Gabriele
Lighting is what really makes the shelves stand out. You covered the added electrical plug for the lamps but didn’t talk much about how you added lighting under your shelves. The glass shelves in the bedroom were all lit up. Beautiful!!
Love the symmetry of the bookcases and the books turned around so I don’t have to read the labels. Great idea❤ Love your style and all your videos CLASSY LADY😎
Excellent topic Rebecca , this is something important in every home for sure .. Loved it ~ I got a request which would be great too is what to do with the top of kitchen cabinets. what to put what not to put whats the best what do you think on that ?
Love your decorating style. I like the idea of turning the books around, I would never have thought to do that. This was a lesson that I was really interested in seeing because I have struggled in that area.
I love you, Rebecca you give the greatest ideas and really help me. I have tons of bookcases built-in, and freestanding. The question, where did you get the lamps in the music room? They have acrylic at the bottom of the coral?? They are beautiful and I love the shape. Thank you Ladena Dubler
Aw-w-w Rebecca, Rebecca, YOU STILL ROCK, Girl!! Been watching you from my Las Vegas Senior Community, Since the Sherra Went Off To College & Uou & She Went To Mom-Daughter Vacation In Italy DAYS?!❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your ideas and decorating insights. I’m painting a wall black and installing twin gold etageres. I would not have decorated them with symmetry without your advice.
I would love to see the different ways that you light up bookcases and built-ins after they're built. I've seen you light up so many of them, but I don't know what you're using. Thanks, Paula
Loved! I’ve decided to use some art I have had under my bed for a couple of years after seeing your use of the two bright gold panels in your room flanking the one large piece. I felt they were too gaudy but I’m rethinking that.
I am all about lighting in my bookshelves. When I moved to a new home the electrician called me crazy, but I love love lighted bookshelves! Don't mind being called crazy!
1-thank you! This is so helpful. The where. The how. In my bookshelf/display cases, among the objects I display, the books are carefully edited to a specific color palette. No red, purple, orange that won’t keep the shelves calming and earthy. Those books are kept in a closed cabinet. Sometimes, I have to remove the dust jacket to coordinate. I do get it with the books turned around- it’s a graphic display using books. I can see that!
I'm so happy to see the black wall with book shelves back that perfectly frame the piano! Perfection!
I love bold wall choices!!!
