  • Llanberis Lake Railway Hunslet No.1430 "Dolbadarn" in Light Green heads toward Llanberis before heading back into Gilfach Ddu station and onto Cei Llydan. Despite having full barriers, this crossing is technically I think an ABCL/AOCL+B and the alarms go on after the barriers go down. The barriers here and the lack of 2 lights mean that this crossing was probably designed as a pedestrian crossing more than a road crossing. The skirts on these barriers are really short. There are tiny infrared beams either side of the barriers which some could say that this is the only ABCL-OD crossing in the UK. One track leads off the railway across the main road and into the engine shed, part of the Slate Museum. The view of the Slate Museum and the Snowdonia mountains behind the crossing in the second shot make this one of the more scenic crossings.

    you have to agree that backdrop is amazing

    Awesome. Very old barriers and they couldn't be bothered to turn off the alarm. The barriers are so old they probably don't have sensors or something similar.

      UK Level Crossings
      It's probably not because they didn't bother, it's more than likely because it's operated with a button at the station, and it doesn't always turn off the alarm. These crossings work a lot differently to your generic mainline Level Crossings.

      These level crossings are automatically activated and deactivated by a trigger when the train is nearby. The reason why the first one was so long is because the train stopped at the station. These level crossings are not controlled by someone in the station. I know I've been there. There's a sign saying 'these barriers are automatic.'

    When I went to Wales in May, our holiday coach pulled into this location. I stood at this crossing for about 15 mins waiting for it to lower but it wouldn't. I noticed it had E2S alarms and God they don't sound right. And the alarms continue for some funny reason. :) :) :)

      well actually they sound perfectly fine & nothing is wrong with them. the ones your used to hearing are the Apello Voice sounders & the alarm tone sounds very muffled. These are the older E2S sounders (made before the Apello voice sounders were introduced) & the alarm tone sounds much clearer. Also the ones that are at Crossings, have a slightly higher pitched alarm tone & the normal ones are this (normal) pitch. However the new versions of this sounder (the normal non-voice ones), now sound muffled aswell.

      It's not that they're older. It's that they're A105Ns. They have the same look as their Apello X counterparts (A105NAX), but the A105Ns have the basic multi-tone circuitry (like the A100s).

      Your right! I prefer these to the A105NAX's!

    Those barriers look more like the ones you see in industrial parks than on level crossings...

    Nice catch! Interesting how both of the wig-wags are on the right. It also reminds me of a few crossings I've seen here in the US where the bells stay on until the signals shut off or the gates begin to rise.

    Forest City wig-wags are quite rare nowadays. great vid.

      Yes, they are quite rare. But, some Forest City wig-wags are being retrofitted with LED's and are also being reused at lift bridges!

    The alarms obviously work with the lights & not the barriers. Also Obstacle Detection crossings are FULLY Automatic & not manually controlled. They're activated by treadles (like AOCR/AOCL/AHB/ABCL's are) on the tracks. So technically they're ABC-OD & NOT MCB-OD.

    Wow, an AOCL+B-OD.

      This doesn't have Obstacle detection and is not ab AOCL+B... I don't know what it is to be honest

    • @Nathan_A_RF
      @Nathan_A_RF  5 лет назад

      I'm really not sure. It kind of acts like one but since this was installed way before the AFBCL principle was constructed I doubt it.

    • @TheosTrainsWalesOfficial
      @TheosTrainsWalesOfficial Год назад

      @@Nathan_A_RF I would say it's a prototype/unofficial AFBCL, as the abandoned Wheelwright Lane crossing in Coventry is an AFBCL-TMO, which has four Yodalarm YO3's. It's on an abandoned freight line, can't remember which, though.
