    This was the lightbulb moment for me. I was hitting the ball from the inside but was taking the shortest route, which caused too much rotation at the start of downswing. At the end of backswing, i started to push the clubhead backwards and away from me. This keeps the clubhead exactly on the same circle, it also gives more time to accelerate the clubhead, a longer route of the clubhead to the ball. Felt almost like it doubled the speed! :)
    Thanks for this tip!

    Thanks to Marcus I'm making the best ball contact of my life. This video hits on both of my major flaws starting the DS by 1) rotating open / over the top or 2) pulling my hands down at the ball. The lightbulb moment for me was as Marcus mentioned - the focusing on pushing/throwing my hands/club BACK and down. That one move fixed me. I still get the occasional bad habit creep in (over the top, pull down) but now I can immediately feel it and fix it on the next shot.

    After 4 years of trying to find my golf swing, I employed the circle of speed, the push, and the up and down motion that Marcus advocates and I’m consistently shooting in the 70s. My last round I was 1 over. The reason why they say 95% of golfers don’t improve after a few years is because they are being taught to NOT improve. This motion is so simple…swing in and under to out. If people would learn this swing…Markus could flip the percentage to 95% of people actually get BETTER after a few years. It’s that simple and it’s that good of instruction.

    Marcus, your understanding of the swing and then your ability to explain it is unmatched. I have said this before, but as an engineer the first thing I did 30 years ago before I hit the first ball was pick up Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons. It screwed me up for 25 years and I believe created all the teaching that has created this over the top epidemic that exists out there. I know it’s stupid of me to say that 1 of the best golfers ever got it wrong, but I believe you explained it best by “what your brain thinks you need to do is not necessarily what you’re doing”. But I also think the pros can “torque” themselves up in a way that 99.999% of golfers simply can’t do, myself included. (X factor) Meaning maybe they do feel like they start with lower body and then upper body uncoils violently and “catches up”. But again, they stretch and work out for hours per week to do that not to mention they’re tremendous athletes. I don’t know. All I know is your teaching is solid GOLD for me. Thank you ❤

    Good video. It took me forever to learn this. I did it by keeping my arms loose. Muscle tension was killing my golf swing. I think that is why most golfers do the bad hip and arm moves you were talking about. When I first tried it, it felt like I was not going to hit the ball very far. After many repetitions the ball start to go farther and farther. Additionally, if I did tighten up I could instantly feel it. If you could make a video on muscle tension it would be appreciated.

    A light bulb has been lit and I can’t wait to get to the range. For years I’ve been trying to get more force into the swing by using my forward thigh, right hip turn, torso turn etc. It feels powerful but it’s not fast enough for really good distances. Instead, your concept of using the hands and arms faster and letting the body follow/enable the hands is a completely different swing. If I understand it, It basically says relying on muscle/force to power the ball has limitations but relying on very fast hands/arms does release much more club head speed. Can’t wait to try it.

    Very interesting, Marcus. It appears that many pros don't straighten the right elbow until the shaft is near parallel to the ground on the downswing. If I understand you correctly you are saying that the trail arm and its elbow can start straightening from the very top of the downswing. I am going to give this a try and hopefully swing the club as gracefully as you. Steven from Ohio

    • @GolfwithMarcusEdblad
      @GolfwithMarcusEdblad  4 месяца назад

      By doing it later or earlier we can control the low point in the swing. If you look closely I don't extend fully before impact with irons or hybrids. Maybe 90% before impact when the ball is hit from the grass. You will see the same move on TV.

    • @stevenburton7922
      @stevenburton7922 4 месяца назад +1

      @@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Marcus, thank you for the feedback. Above I meant to say many of the pros I see keep the right elbow bent and don't start to straighten it until the shaft is horizontal to the ground (holding the release) and at contact the right arm appears to be 90 percent straight. When I watch you swing your right elbow starts to straight at the very top of the downswing and like you said is about 90 percentish straight at impact. I went out side and just swung a number of my clubs the way you do and was amazed at how fluid the swing was. I also noted how easy it is on the body. I noted to that I didn't point my trail shoulder at the target like I normally do when the swing was completed. I didn't need to. This was easier on my back. I hope my perception of your swing is accurate. This is a real eye opener. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

      A fat shot is a to early extension of the wrist not the arm. Try to feel the push of the palm down when you increase speed with irons/hybrids and you will be able to use the arm extension for a greater speed and keep a good impact.

    You said you’re not hitting the ball with the grip…true
    What I feel by letting the arms fall down …under its own power along with the church bell pull to give the motion more energy…to the point where I feel it’s time to release the hands to deliver its part in the swing …is the grip turning into my center or zipper area and that brings the club head back to square
    Getting that trail arm extension as you pointed out at the right place at the right time is key …I’m glad you pointed that out

    One other comment. I have good results if I am very deliberate about my club face, at address, pointing EXACTLY where I want the club head to return to at impact.

      I hear that from some golfers and just keep doing it if it works. I don't think any angle or position is the same at set up and impact. That's why I don't do it myself. 👍

    Something Steve Pratt said helped me tremendously and it relates closely to this video. He said the golf club can be released from the top of the swing (a la circle of speed) as long as the body is turning in the plane of rotation. Marcus uses a little more arm in his swing, but the concept is identical; start the downswing by getting the club head moving down and around on the proper rotational plane.

      There are a few that understand the difference between body speed and club speed. Steve Pratt is one of them. 👍

    I am also a right hander hitting left handed. I fully subscribed to your hands theory and won't practice any other swing theory now. However, my strong right side resists a week left hand controlling the club. So a bad swing is still a spinout effect.
    I get some small success by throwing my left shoulder down and through from the inside. How did you get past your smart hand trying to control the swing?

    • @GolfwithMarcusEdblad
      @GolfwithMarcusEdblad  4 месяца назад

      I didn't. I had to teach my lead hand to do the correct swing. We need both hands to want the same thing. Watch this:

      @@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I watched the video. It makes total sense to have both hands on the same mission. I keep a tennis racket in the house to test theories, at least in principle.
      After just a few swings of the racket I could tell I need to work on the concept. I immediately felt I was using muscles that were not use to getting a workout when I play golf.

    There's no way I can swing back that far. I've tried four or five different online lessons and paid a lot of money for one of them and I'm still struggling. I used to be a single digit handicap and now I'm probably 16 or 17. It's very frustrating.
