Donal ,I made these satays last night. They were really delicious. Only thing, I felt the chicken really lacked salt/seasoning. I added a little salt to my second batch, still marinating, and it made the world of difference. A good splash of Thai sweet chilli sauce and a teaspoon of honey into the peanut sauce took it to another world! I felt I was back in Asia! Many thanks.
i come from a town in Malaysia known as Kajang and it is famous for its satay (To be honest it's pretty darn good) we have beef satay as well which is just delicious! Oh we usually have satay with ketupat (a glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in woven palm leaf which is very pretty looking) and cucumber salad.
Interesting improvisation there Donal! A nice slight twist of peanut sauce there.... The common indonesian version is you would dip the satay into the peanut sauce before you grill it and once more while halfway through. You should head on to Jakarta, and try the most famous variant which is Sate Madura and also the unique Sate Padang... I'm sure it's gonna be an eye opener for you & your subscriber as well. Thumbs up!
When I saw the title of this video I was a bit nervous because this recipe hits home (I'm from Malaysia) but good job giving the satay a Donal twist! Never thought of using peanut butter as the sauce :D
Agreed with Alex Bong ... used to authentic Malaysian satay... but ur idea of using peanut butter for the sauce is interesting... totaly a Donal twist.. I wonder how does the satay taste if grill it on a coal and sprinkle it with oil on lemon grass stork... any way i like it!
Hi Donal! I'm your fan from Thailand and an avid food fan. May I suggest one additional ingredient you can add when you marinate the chicken? My mom always add coconut milk when marinate the chicken. It gives the sweetness and somehow softens the chicken. Anyway I love your take on our Thai street food! Keep up the good work!
I live in Indonesia and chicken satay is really easy to be found on the street. I have it like once a week for dinner. But it's really fun to watch your version of chicken satay. Never thought of using peanut butter. Worth to try, even though it will cost more compare with using real peanuts here, hahaha.
I'm 1/3 malay from Singapore and my mum always use roasted peanuts and blend them coarsely! And we also blend all the onions and chiilis. But this one looks awesome to me! Definitely a donal twist!
This is one of my sister's favorite foods. I will make this next time she comes to visit! The peanut sauce recipe is going to be used more often though! Great recipe again and thank you!
Hey Donal, your Chicken Satay recipe is fabulous! This dish also comes from my homeland, Indonesia. People in here like to sprinkle the satay with the slices of raw red onion. If you don't mind the exotic aroma from the onion, you will get the simple crunchy texture from it. Simply beautiful! Looking forward for your new tasty recipes! :)
Hi Donal! The recipe looks awesome. The peanut butter is definitely a great idea to make the sauce less time consuming. Cheers from indonesia! Love to watch you on grandma's boy 😊
I LOVE all your recipes. Made your chicken hotpot for my dad and he LOVES it (thank you).. But.. This recipe I have to say it's not Thai :) it's actually Malaysian. The main ingredient in that authentic peanut sauce is palm sugar BUT I'm glad you gave this a Donal twist! Uniquely Donal! :)
Hey Donal! Awesome vid as always and I always enjoy some satay every now and then in my country. I suggest you add some lemongrass into the marinade for more aroma and taste. Trust me, I have done it. Looking forward to your next vid!
Thank you for the recipe, Donal! I love Chicken Satay and I look forward to trying this out. Although, for the sauce, is the chili optional? Can't handle spice that well, you see :c
I. LOVE. SATAY. Not gonna lie that I was very sceptical when you said you were gonna use peanut butter as a substitute for the peanut gravy. But it looks delish & I'm glad that you introduced an alternative :) Btw satay is not a Thai food. It's an Indonesian/Malay food & very popular here in Singapore! Not sure if you've been to Singapore but if you haven't, I'd recommend you to try our satay :D
Hi Donalll!! The sauce looks so creamy :9 Anyway, in my country, Indonesia, we have some sauce for some kinds of satay. For example Lamb Satay, we only use Soy Sauce, a bit of garlic, shallot, and chilli, mix them up and there you have it. Another one is Sate Padang (Padang-nese Satay) we use meat and ox tongue, liver, and other offal, and the sauce is very thick and it's not from peanuts. You should search for the recipes for further information :) anyway, #SatayLiving whoop whoop :)
By the way, have you ever been to Bali..? The way you present and cook the satay is the same as most of the hotel in bali...just asking..:) I enjoy watching your video
I'm from indonesia and i am impressed on how u make satay :') nobody knows where it came from but it's a simple barbecuing so i'm sure every country has one of their own. Have u been to Indonesia, Donal? i wouldn't recommend u to go to Bali and buy the satay there, cuz majority of the ones sold there are pork (while most indonesian don't eat pork) and i want u to taste authentic indonesian satay ^^d u've been to italy, maybe it's time for u to explore Eastern flavours? it'll be more wild and adventurous :'D
Glad to see you cooked this and fyi satay (sate) is originally from Indonesia, come here and I'll take you to have a taste the authentic satay. Btw ur version looks good :)
Hey Donal! You're cute, you're such a delight and you inspire me to cook! I love you and all your videos are great and you're honestly one of my favourite chefs! Lots of love! ♥
Hi Donal! Big fan from Malaysia 😍 Usually it's just a peanut sauce, and controversially as a Malaysian I don't really like the regular peanut sauce, but your take on peanut BUTTER sauce is really interesting, might have to give it a go hehehe. And for the record I think you did this dish quite the justice. Grilling it over charcoal like its traditionally done would help with a more charred smoky flavour though, I think!
Glaze the chicken using crushed lemongrass 'brush' + palm cooking oil kinda moiste the chicken a bit and make it more aromatic. If you don't mind about slightly oily food..hehe
Looks delicious!! Unfortunately the recipe link does not work... will it take a while for it to show up on the website? Thanks for the great recipe as always. :)
Man, I was looking for satay and then I found your channel :D And I must say you have a great channel! Big thumbs up and subbed! Good luck with your awesome channel!! greatings Ben, from the Netherlands ;-)
Oh my goodness! Awesome recipe. Just like the recipe used when I lived in Thailan!! 40+ years ago! I'm old. LOL. I love your energy however... yes, there is always a however or a but... slow down a bit, if you would when mentioning each ingredient as you are adding them. I had to stop and go back a few times. Other than that, you are an absolute delight to watch. By your cooking and chopping skills I would venture to say you are a trained chef? I think you are awesome so, I subscribed!
Wooow !! Definitely trying this .... can I just say that you're cute , amazing , funny and sooo talented !! You totally deserve more subscribers and a million like 👍👍
I was trying to watch this video but your cuteness is distracting me. Haha anyways I've made this for my mom, my mom is a chef and also from Malaysia and we both loved it.👌👍
Satay is originally from Indonesia. And it was named as one of the most delicious foods in the world based on CNN Reader's Pick survey in 2011 travel.cnn.com/explorations/eat/readers-choice-worlds-50-most-delicious-foods-012321
I'm not sure where you got this recipe, may be some where in asia. I saw your video have many recipe from thailand. In thailand we eat pork satay. I hope you go to thailand becuase you will try a lot of delicious food and let them in your video. Sorry about my poor English. I always love your video.
I live in Singapore and peanut butter in satay sauce is SO wrong HAHAH but yours looks pretty tasty! Singapore cubes the satay meat too actually. Pretty different ways of making it but yours is more modern!
i'm indonesian. your twist looks so delicious, tasty, and I'll try this recipe at home definitely!! well, try the original recipe chicken satay from indonesia, you gonna love it! :"D
Hi!! Chicken satay is from Indonesia and chicken satay is not like that and the sauce is wrong...... Sorry if my english is terrible cause i live at Java,Indonesia and I still learn an englis.

I live in Indonesia and chicken satay is really easy to be found on the street. I have it like once a week for dinner. But it's really fun to watch your version of chicken satay. Never thought of using peanut butter. Worth to try, even though it will cost more compare with using real peanuts here, hahaha.
Would it be possible to substitute the chicken with fish? Maybe with halibut?
Looks yummy. Peanut sauce is good on sooo many things too!
Good idea! :)
I'm 1/3 malay from Singapore and my mum always use roasted peanuts and blend them coarsely! And we also blend all the onions and chiilis. But this one looks awesome to me! Definitely a donal twist!
Oh great tip from your mum! :)
This is one of my sister's favorite foods. I will make this next time she comes to visit! The peanut sauce recipe is going to be used more often though! Great recipe again and thank you!
I'm a bit addicted to it- totally with your sister! :)

It was so simple and tasty. The leftovers was used
In your fried rice recipe; it was so awesome:-)
That sauce goes incredibly well with mayo, fries and diced onions btw. It's a surprisingly popular fast food in the Netherlands.

I LOVE chicken satay!!! I always have chicken satay with Hainanese Chicken rice every year I travel to Bangkok with my family!
I love Bangkok! Such a cool place! :)
Nice and simple. Gonna make this for the kids tomorrow :)
I think I can use fish sauce instead of soy sauce.. It's gonna enhance the spicy kick and the flavor I think.. Donal, what do you say?

The bowl where you were massaging :)) the chicken meat is so cute.

i would be waiting to see what sauce you would improvise for it, if you ever made it
Does turmeric just add the color or does is have a specific taste?
It adds a great colour but has a fantastic flavour too!
