maybe because a Les Paul is like an anchor hanging around your neck? most play strats, I suppose? one of my favourite blues players Steve Hill started out playing in his trio on a tele, very nice bluesy stuff! I guess everyone plays what they like best? BTW' Samantha usually plays teles with humbuckers, NOT the original lipstick pickups
Gibsons are way over rated and over priced. I have a Les Paul and it kills your shoulder and doesn't play or sound any better than either my Tele or Strat. And if you look at the finish on Gibsons, it's not that good for the price you pay

Muddy Waters always played a Tele. I'd say that was about as bluesy as one could get.
Tele's have great tone, and are lighter than Gibson's
Teles are a great blues guitar, check out Johnny Lang for example. And if you put it through a valve amp say a Vox AC30 or even a Dumbrell - woo hoo.
Watch Derek Trucks he plays the same way.
