  • The Baseball Bat Bros test out the difference between four different sizes of the same BBCOR bat.
Conclusion: THE SIZE OF BAT YOU GET WILL IMPACT YOUR HITTING GAME EQUALLY AS MUCH AS THE TYPE OF BAT YOU GET.
    Will's favorite: 34"
    John's favorite: 33.5"
    Cam's favorite: 33"

And if you’re thinking about moving up a size with your bat: don’t make that decision based on tee work or front toss - hit off live pitching with decent velocity first so you can see how it affects your bat speed and barrel control

When I started learning to hit I was using a 34in 28oz slowpitch softball bat because that's what my day had. I would choke up to the top of the grip and swing as hard as I could. I was 6yrs old at the time.

My son and we’re talking about this the other day. He’s 11, a very strong hitter even in 12U. He was using 30 drop 10 then went to a drop 8. He now swings a 31 -10 5150 or -8 Cat 7. He’s till has good control but hits about 20 feet farther.

When I made the transition from 33 to 34 my sophomore year of high school it was pretty easy, didn’t notice any difference in weight of the bat or getting to inside pitches or anything. The power was the biggest difference, easily added an extra 30 feet or so on well hit balls.

In high school as a senior i swung a 34.. I didn’t have bat speed but I knew how to hit.. I use the length of the bat as leverage & I would always hit bombs & linedrives.. people would say that I had power but all I did was put a practice swing at 75-80%....

You speaking facts on size differences when I got into bbcor I swang a 32’ and 33’ but by my senior year I swang a 34 it was a big difference it felt heavy at first then after a year it was light but It was still heavy

My son and I did an experiment: Slightly end-loaded 32" (2022 Stinger Guardian) vs. light-swinging 33" (2018 Rawlings Velo). In open field BP, he thought the swing weight felt similar, but he hit more over the fence with the 32" Guardian and had better barrel control.
He's a D3 college player. Versatile hitter. Prefers barrel control over power. Trying out the 32" as a gamer this season to see how it plays.

I'm 5'6 125 lb but I swing a 34 it has a good weight to it and a lot of whip which I find better because I keep my hands really inside. I like End Loaded bats even if I'm a leadoff because of the weight that it gives. Nobody else swings a 34 on the baseball program besides me and I'm one of the smallest there 😂

  • @johnfitsch7781

F=MA. Just have to keep your hands inside the ball and you will get around and the ball will jump. A few years ago when I took physics in college I did the math and found that batspeed does not decline as much as the additional increase in mass. The real issue is that the additional inertia of the longer bat means that if your mechanics are off and you are long to the ball, it will be quite unforgiving and you will be late, which actually has less to do with the weight of the bat. This is why it might be an interesting experiment to do a 33 drop 2 vs a 34 drop 3 vs a 33 drop 1. I still think the inertia of the bat will help with dingers, but it might be a way to get harder hits without having to make a full jump. When Maple started becoming a thing, people thought that the heavier wood was the sole reason for more home runs.

I used to hit 33 or 34 271 or 110 (maple) and never really hit bombs. Switched to 32 inch 243 (birch) and I hit a couple dingers every season now (though my hand is over the knob so it swings more like a 33). I think it all depends on your particular swing mechanics, bat speed, lower half, etc.

Great video, love the content your channel offers!
In your experience what would be the difference in exit velo and carry distance between a top end 2019 BBCOR like Meta and a low end 2018 BBCOR like an Easton Ghost X? Given that variables were reduced to the greatest extent possible (pitch speed, hitters bat speed, etc). So if same hitter swung each bat against same BP pitcher what would be carry distance and exit velo difference? Just wondering how much bat performance impacts outcome indicators. Thanks

    • @baseballbatbros
      @baseballbatbros  4 года назад +1

We'll have to test it out!! But I'd initially say that we've seen about a 25-30 foot difference in how far a ball travels between some of our favorites (i.e. Bonesaber, The Goods, Meta Pwr) and some of our least favorites. And that's within a pretty controlled environment (same field/conditions/balls/players/bat size)

@@baseballbatbros up here where I am in Canada I've had to use wood for the past 7 years since I was about 13 which was my last time using bbcor. Was always jealous of guys down in the states being able to use aluminum/composite through college ball.
