Hi, does soda ash helps for color saturation of the rope or just fixing the color ? Thanks a bunch

Hi Melissa. I'm wondering if it might be cheaper to buy colored cord if you're not doing macrame by the truckload. And I love your videos :)

Have you ever used rit dye for dying rope?! I've been wanting to try it!

Reagan Schaal Yes, I have and it turns out nice also! I was having a hard time getting the color super saturated like this Procion dye. You can always test a small sample of rope to see if you like it! 👍🏻

Not dye related, but just wanted to share. My mom actually washed two of my vintage macrame pieces (a plant hanger and a hanging table) IN the washing machine with NO bag, then in the dryer with no bag or protection whatsoever! I was a little miffed, thinking the glass beads on the plant hanger would surely be cracked, if not completely busted, but they were fine! The wooden beads on the table hanger were a bit stripped of their orange paint, but in better shape than I expected and ultimately, all the colors were bright and no knots were undone. If you just launder them the way you would a teddy bear (cool dryer setting, protected in a stocking bag or pillow case) They seem just fine in the wash. :)

How was your experience dying black rope ?

Hi Melissa, thanks a lot for posting this tutorial, I was very overwhelmed with the idea of dyeing but gave it a shot after watching your tutorial. I had two bumps in the process: although i soaked my ropes beforehand, after 25 min in dye bucket fully covered, there were still parts of my rope that you could see the white. Those white strings were not at folded parts whatsoever, so I don’t understand why it happened. Any thoughts? Secondly my rope kept bleeding, even after soda ash, rinsing, machine wash... after machine was and air fluff/no heat dryer 15 min, while I was putting it around a spool, it dyed my hands. Any thoughts?

As you speak so fast it is hard to catch what the items are. Perhaps it would be much more user friendly if you list the items individually. thanks

Melissa, I have looked through all your supplies and I still am not seeing the dye or salts you used. All I see is the rope and supplies to make the pieces themselves. Is it just me? ;)
