  • A brand-new K1.74 million building is being erected at the Catholic Church-run St Therese Vocational Centre at Kamkumung in Lae to cater for tourism and hospitality courses. Construction started in December 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2024.
Funding comes mainly from the National Government’s Tuition Fee Free (TFF) since 2016, which has been wisely saved by school management and the Catholic Church. The Morobe Provincial Government has also provided assistance, and the school has contributed through its own fundraising efforts.
The two-storey building will feature classrooms, including a computer laboratory, a restaurant, and guestrooms.
St Therese currently has about 250 students enrolled in Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) courses, including commercial cookery, garment and textiles, hospitality operations, office administration, and tourism operation. It is a major supplier of skilled manpower to hotels, restaurants, and the garment and textile industries in Lae and other parts of the country.
In this first video of a two-part series on St Therese Vocational Centre, Manager Mrs. Tracey Tapi gives us a tour of the new building.
Keep watching this channel for the next video, which will focus on the TVET courses offered by St Therese.

Thank you Mrs Yapi for the tour of the school. Such initiatives and learning facilities creates students to learn and become self reliant. Congratulations on the progress and best wishes to you and the school.

If I was working in Lae, I would volunteer to teach computing on a seasonal basis. We need to do more to support such initiatives.
