My favourite thing about pigeons: they did a study in Toronto that discovered that pigeons always divide themselves among food sources so that each pigeon gets about the same amount of food. So if you start feeding pigeons at a park everyday, as you increase the amount of food you put down, you will only attract more pigeons rather than feed those initial pigeons more. They have a mysterious way of communicating with each other to equitably divide the food throughout the entire city among the thousands of themselves. It’s a beautiful case of solidarity. If only humans were so progressive...

The reason I say this is because people mostly feed them bread which can clog up their system and make it hard to lay eggs (called "egg bound") or even poop. 1:41 THAT IS NOT, the story of Cher Ami, Dear friend in french. October 4, 1918 WW1 ! ! ! . . Lost American Battalion 77th Infantry Division, known as "The Liberty Division", Entrenched on all Sides by German troops trained to shoot the only communications left, Pigeons. 200 Men remain out of the 500 in just several days and all other Pigeons have been killed. With defenses failing the only commander Major Whittlesey fits the last bird with a message, it was Cher Ami. He sets out over the battle field. Germans See the bird rising from the brush and begin to fire. He is shot through the CHEST, Blinded in One eye and his Leg hanging on by one tendon. The troops see this as their defeat as all hope is lost, but Cher Ami kept going. He flew through more bullets then anything in history and flew 25 miles in 25 minutes. Finally he reached American headquarters and saved 194 men!!!!! He lived to tell the tail despite having a quarter sized whole in his chest from the bullet. Fitted with a Peg leg and awarded the highest metal of Honor for an animal Cher Ami remains a Legend to this day. 100% True, not kidding.
Damstraight68 It sickens me that pigeons were used by humans, sacrificed for them and they are still hated. Also, a peg leg and a medal for getting shot, losing a leg, losing an eye, and saving 194 men? That definitely doesn't compensate for Cher Ami's losses. Cher Ami's whole family tree should have been blessed and treated like royalty!
Siskin's Bits and Bobs I'm pretty sure you wouldn't think they are so adorable if you have a balcony and they do everything they can to come there and take a shit so you have to clean every day. +Anson Mansfield Once you got them hungry enough nothing can stop them
LagiNaLangAko23 Hi Flips
Anson Mansfield Actually, captchas help teach AI robots. It's a pretty interesting process. I hope Vox does a video on it. Unless they already do. But CPGGrey has a good video on it.
The fact that scientists still haven't sussed out how they navigate is freakin' wild and awesome. I love pigeons.
You've convinced me. Pigeons are amazing.
I will still not feed street pigeons however. That doesn't make much sense.
Juil Feeding street pigeons is actually not good for them. The reason I say this is because people mostly feed them bread which can clog up their system and make it hard to lay eggs (called "egg bound") or even poop. It's happened to a few of my chickens cause our neighbors would give us bread. When we figured out what was causing it, we told them to stop giving our chickens bread. And they're fine now.
acegirlinastraightworld i live by the Erie canal and there are tons of pigeons so these kids decided to sell small dried bits of corn kernels and none of the pigeons, ducks, or even geese seem to have problems.
But if u feed them, they swarm u and that is kool
Greedy Fett
yeah I feel like I'm their mama bird or a godess
@PeachiiBun What kind of seeds?
1:41 THAT IS NOT, the story of Cher Ami, Dear friend in french.
October 4, 1918 WW1
They probably got the name wrong plus why the hell do you care so much?
All fun and games till you realize the pigeons are the real mvp’s
Pigeons are adorable. I particularly love wood pigeons. They are not gross.
Siskin's Bits and Bobs I'm pretty sure you wouldn't think they are so adorable if you have a balcony and they do everything they can to come there and take a shit so you have to clean every day. Also every morning you wake up at 5 for hearing their wonderful moans outside your balcony or on your balcony.
+Zoyer1 go cry
Sudigumi someone got some sand in their vagina i see
Yeah
I feel like this video needed to be a lot longer.
Think about this, the military almost gave pigeons the power to control a highly explosive missile that can tack down aircraft carriers.
"these little bastards" lol I like this host
😂😂😂 same here
"these lil bastards" that shit was funny
DeathByVanity hostess....
I'd bet she's a fat liberal
“This video will change how you look at pigeons,” you say
“Will it tho?” I ask my pigeon, who looks at me confusedly from the windowsill.
(Rumor says hello)
Hmm, by the way good English, man. You might have got straight A in your English class.
@@adeeb1787 I don't know if this is sarcastic or not, but you missed a word there if you were endeavouring for grammatical correctness.
Which word, Pal?
Ok, I got it. My bad.
As i'm watching this, the pigeon i usually scare away, is sitting outside on my balcony railing
im gonna stop scaring it away now
Pigeons lives matter
Shen Shy no u

@@RokoKaran Lmao you have no reason to hate him/her
@@coldthrenody nah bro they're just tryna start some drama little kids do it all the time when they're bored
ALL animals are precious. Humans, well that’s a different story.
We didn't have to exist.
Mhm
Humans are animals
yes
@@Gameworks1407 true though, but we are the ones using our 100 billion neurons for killing, making fun of our own pets (the cats and dogs movie, the myth about cats hating dogs, and cat comics that don't actually say anything about cats at all), ''peta'', veganism (we are omnivores), pollution, and murder.
Everyone: ew pigeons
Vox: I just think the’re really neat
Bully: Bird Brain!
Me: oh thank you you're so nice
Vox's best video yet.
I've always loved pigeons a lot and I'm glad that more people are becoming aware of their efforts🕊️
Pigeons are the worst no reason to love them they are the worst.
@@JaKingScomez 😡😠😡😠
@@JaKingScomez There’s no reason to love you.
@@JaKingScomez no reason to love you, you are the worst, shame on you.
today can they still deliver messages?
I heard that messenger pigeons have gone extinct
Ueapop Pannopas You may be thinking of bird called the Passenger Pigeon, which was pretty much wiped out in the 19th century. It's a different species than the pigeon in our video. Here's more info about the Passenger Pigeon: www.audubon.org/magazine/may-june-2014/why-passenger-pigeon-went-extinct
But don't they do the same thing. I love your vids. Subbed
+Depressingly Funny yea they will carry, messages, drugs and cell phones for you, free of charge.
+Depressingly Funny That's Passenger Pideons.
+Depressingly Funny People in jail use them to smuggle things into prisons
Why does that guy in the end have a strange Fallout-y feeling to it.
That's Tom Lehrer, he wrote songs about politics and society in the 50s, including few songs about nuclear fallout. I haven't played Fallout, but it's probably possible some of his songs made it in to the series.
Black and white and the 1900s feel? Yup.that feeling is fallout-y
Me: wants to go to bed and sleep
Also me: Look, a video about underrated pigeons
that song at the end is a bit demented
Probably the point
+hello It's a Tom Lehrer song. He wrote The Element song with all the chemistry elements in them. Most of his songs are crazy or witty in a way.
+hello Tom was actually a Harvard prof of.... mathematics I believe.
scyther1 yeah but almost all maths teachers are weird
Pidgeons are really cute! I call them City Doves. They are only gross because we are gross! People living on the streets are not very clean either.
Imagine a police officer arresting a pigeon for smuggling drugs
A flying rat. The symbol for peace, used for missile guiding xD
GTA IV.. I remember the reference
they should better be called Surfin' Birds
I have a pigeon. I find they're more like flying rabbits than rats.
Lelelelelel
YTisMEH ThisisBS Isn't the dove the symbol of peace?
Look at a dove and pigeon side by side my man, tell me what you see.
Thank you for giving pigeons a respectable advertisement.
They've always been my favourite bird. Broke my heart when they removed them from Trafalgar Square.
Loved the video. I breed pigeons. The pigeon in my profile picture wearing a bow tie is a breed of pigeon that does back flips. (Birmingham Roller)
if you breed them, then why is it a good video??
I love pigeons, they are so cute!!!!!!
+Electro-Cute Aww poor pigeons :(
+Electro-Cute I think they are beautiful too.
+Electro-Cute even i like puras ..i have pure 100 kattu-pura with me...it leaven in morning come back late evening
I think pigeons are cute too. :) AND I LOVE THEIR SOUNDS. COO COO :D
You are the rarest person I've ever seen. Someone who loves pigeons. Same tbh
Day 42 in quarantine, I’m looking at videos dedicated to Pigeon’s contribution to world history
The very reason I dislike fireworks is that they hurt wildlife, especially birds like pigeon. Those thug pigeons who are trafficking guns and phones to the prisons though lol 😬
For my tenth birthday I got ten white homing pigeons. I love pigeons.
Pigeons that were in WW1: Are u sure about that
Who thinks pigeons are gross? They're cute
Tobias yeah.
It takes a great amount of intelligence in the animal kingdom to be able to adapt to the conditions human civilization.
"pigeons can guide a missile"
pigeon: yes humans... fear us....
I don't hate on pigeons, Sarajevo is full of them, and they make it more beautiful
I love pigeons... They're so cute... How could anyone hate them?!
I know, right? I love pigeons as well, and they're really funny to watch. Plus they're so chubby that they have to flap their wings so hard that they slap together. At least that's what I like to imagine that really loud flapping sound you hear when pigeons fly and not other birds is, haha. Apparently they actually do it to scare away predators, but my chubby pigeon mental image is the one I prefer.
As a pigeon expert pigeons are the greatest birds of society
I find all birds really cute, which includes pigeons.
Pigeons are totally underestimated..they are truly remarkable animals!! They are part of the small bunch of animals that can recognise themselves in a mirror too!!
Wow... I never knew that ¿..
A pigeon delivered a message even though being shot in the leg and managed to save soldiers lives, meanwhile my dog can't even do fetch.
a pigeon flew to my house everyday and that is when i fell in love with them 🐦
"these b* can f^ guide our missiles" Okay I'm sold, but also it's pretty lit that they're capable of finding survivors at a higher rate that literal humans.
In Warsaw (PL) there's a park called Łazienki Królewskie (Royal Bathrooms..? I swear it sounds a lot better in Polish :) where the pigeons are literally conditioned to eat from people's hands and behave more like parrots than anything. I swear to god they're so polite they don't even seem to poop in people's reach.
Me: *pigeons are second favorite animal*
Vox: Everyone hates pigeons
Me: :/
