The purpose of congestion pricing is to decentivize people from driving and instead use public transit, walk, bike, etc. It has worked wonders in multiple major cities all around the globe including London. The toll revenue goes directly into repairing and rebuilding existing roads and transportation infrastructure. The problem is that it's yet another thing that will hurt the low and middle classes who will be forced to not drive whilst favouring the upper class who can afford the tolls. Ideally, cities implementing congestion pricing would use the toll revenue to lower public transit prices so as not to add another tax to the lower and middle classes.

The taxi drives there hate it well. It increased prices for everything. The mta been miss managing funds for decades and even got busted having two books. Now making the ppl pay for that is just messed up. Not to mention the subway is dangerous, and nasty and they still day they going to raise fares....

Why on earth would they do it right now? Get the congestion tolls in there using this as the argument, then solve the fare jumper issue… and then never roll back the congestion tolls after the fare jumper issue is solved. Then nyc can have double the money.

If New Jersey can charge tolls for everyone for driving on highways and crossing bridges across the state to help with upkeep, then why can't NYC can charge a toll for driving in the city. It's a toll. Classified as the same type of toll you would pay for driving on the NJ Turnpike and Parkway. If New Jersey can charge all drivers a toll for driving these routes, then NY has every right to charge all drivers a toll for driving in the city.

Don't want to carpool but want free express lane access? Drive a hybrid or an EV. Same with Texas: Driving on a toll corridor from Dallas to Frisco? Prepare to pay more in tolls than if you were going from heart of Dallas to the Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, especially if you opt to have your toll delivered by mail versus a tolling system pass like EZ Pass. In each situation, much like this, people can choose themselves to take different paths that are not tolled. This is a toll. Plain and simple. Tax implies it is levied against every person even if they never take a car through this zone, which millions of New Yorkers don't do every day.

Speed cameras were supposed to just be in school zones, then they ran 24 hours a day and then they expanded the range around "schools" so that it covered all of NYC.
it is not convenient to use the train, the interval is not clear from 6 to 16 minutes, I am from Russia and there the interval between trains is 2 minutes maximum and if something happens on the rails, buses start running to the next stations right at the exit

I have a wacky idea. It's going to sound crazy, but bear with me. If the MTA really needs that money, maybe they could actually enforce fare evasion laws, instead of trying to tax everyone who isn't using public transportation. They lost $700M to this last year and don't even try to stop anyone from jumping the turnstiles or climbing in the bus' back doors anymore.
Congestion pricing is GOOD. Manhattan is too crowded and the fees to enter it should go to $50 to reduce the number of people driving into Manhattan needlessly. If it's $50, no way am I going to be driving into Manhattan unless it's critical. A lot of people will then stop driving into Manhattan and start taking the trains again. Everybody can pay a small fee. It's like getting an extra coffee now. Make it hurt.
Once it starts and the bonds are given out, then that's it. No way you can revert it without crashing the bond market. I find it odd that NJ thinks this will stop it though. It's not an injunction, just a remand. Aka, the judge is asking for more information.

New Yorkers that reside near the Lincoln tunnel west 41st, truly need a break from the cars pollution, cars honking at all hours of the night, not being able to take our own public buses because even the bus lanes are blocked, not being able to safely cross the street and so much more. What about elderly and disabled people who have to get to their doctor's appt. I know someone who has a 80 year old parent, that uses a walker and can barely move on their own cause of bummed hip, drive their parents to their Primary Care Physician every few months. Public transportation isn't an option because of the stairs and how dangerous it is. How is this a good thing for them?
