I remember a moment at a CC concert; the woman in front of us was dancing. We were too. At the end of the song she said something to us. But she said it in that signature way that deaf people do. Yep, deaf, but she could feel the notes up close like we all were, and she danced so happily, and well. Moved us to tears.
Mr. Jones. I would fall asleep at night rewinding it on my Walkman over and over again. Good Night Elizabeth. My baby girl kicked for the first time at a CC concert. The very best feeling ever. Hazy. A heartbreaking song played at my baby girls funeral. Her very own soundtrack of her life. (Along with Alice in Chains 'Black Gives Way to Blue") And now this. Falling asleep at 41 yrs old to Adam's beautiful voice and poetic lyrics. August and Everything After. Thank you for growing up with me. (PS my middle name is Maria. I always felt like Adam was singing to me. *swoon*)
I hear you, Heather. I have fallen asleep to CC on many nights... “I want to be the last thing that hear when you’re falling asleep...” (Catapult). As a teenager these songs electrified me - I listened to them all them time and they helped define those years for me. I remember riding my bike after dark, as fast as I could, to get home by my curfew...”After all the dreaming I come home again...” (Rain King). I remember trying to sleep on a train in India and thinking about home ...”Somewhere out in America, it’s raining...” (Have You Seen Me Lately?). CC music has been with me through those magical years and also much harder times. Painful times. Somehow no matter what happens or where I am in the world, these songs bring me back to myself. I turned 40 last summer. It hit me harder than I expected. My youth is gone. My life could be half over. Have I made the most of it? Have I held on to all those moments as they passed? How will I make the next 40 years meaningful? I don’t know. The 25 Years and Counting concert was exactly what I needed. If I must grow older, I’m glad to do so in a world where CC are still making music and growing older with me.
I love to hear Adam tell the stories of his music and to tell stories in his music. Thanks Adam and the rest of the band for bringing us along for this amazing ride!
Counting Crows has always been the most important band in my life. Here in Buenos Aires they are not exactly mainstream, but my older brother showed me august and everything after when I as a kid and I have loved every song since. Keep on being the greatest band alive, much love
This Band Totally Blew Me Away at a Chicago Concert .. they Play Tight as a Drum .. all on Cue and The Music Flows like a Stream .. You Could Listen to any Track and get something Different out of it .. Adam Sings Real Life .. a Professor of Emotions and takes your mind to different places .. effortlessly ! Bravo !
"You look into her eyes And it's more than your heart will allow" is among the best lyrics that I have ever heard. I simply cannot comprehend Adam's self-criticism of his song. Leaving this off the record is right up there with Peter Gabriel cutting the front and back from "In Your Eyes" off of "So".
I will never forget the first CC concert (2004) I attended and the songs from the different albums were rearranged to tell a story about a relationship Adam had in the past. True artists and I am happy CC is still releasing new music as well as revisiting older created works to create something new.
Adam is a musical God. He can wear whatever he want's on his head !!! . For the magic of his lyrics ALL these years, I thank Adam and the Crows for being with me since the very start. Have seen them live Numerous times, and have met him TWICE in the past few years-( the VIP deal ) He may not like your hair either !!!
As if I could love CC any more….as an oboe and English horn player I applaud you in your double reed instrument selection. Well done Mr. Duritz, well done. 🎉
sweet Maria, oh how u shine. i remember the carnival daze where the wheel of life kept on spinning around. thanks Adam for all you have contribute to the lore and mythic nature of rock & roll.
I, having heard the "live version" via RUclips, am happy that Adam & the guys were in enough of a really good place to do this (at least semi-) legendary song...and to do it in a way that preserves the beauty within. (BTW, the "LV" is almost like the demo version -- you hear the potential in the song, and Adam's vocal & piano playing are raw & powerful, to say the least -- but you appreciate better where CC (and of course specifically Mr. Duritz) are going with the song.)
Just watched and it's wonderful Nice to hear Adam's take on this Always loved the title, and the lyrics from a song on the front sleeve of the album but not on the record Brilliant
He was dead wrong about this song not belonging. Lifetime fan here and I kept wondering how perfect blue buildings and all the other songs were part of each other.
Absolutely! And they will trod out the same 12 songs they have been playing every summer the last 10 years. These guys have been on automatic pilot for well over a decade.
@@rogers6168 having seen them many times over, this is the craziest thing I've heard. I was seven shows in before I got to see Round Here. Mr. Jones, maybe half of the shows. The two songs that come up the most are long december and rain king.
been a fan for 20 years and I can't hear it cos I don't have amazon prime US (but have amazon prime AU)?? what is this circa 2003 and I can't watch their concert cos it's exclusive to AOL America Online? And just tried to Buy it for 99 cents but didn't work, cos of course not. Guess I'll go hunt MESSAGE BOARDS or some shit PS I clda sworn some version of it DID get released or leaked or smth years ago didnt it?
I understand that Adam Duritz has a depersonalization disorder. That's a dissociative condition where he frequently feels that he and his outside surroundings are not real -- kind of like his dreadlocks.
I have been waiting 26 years for this. Wow amazing.
August and Everything After is the first record I ever bought in my life. I love this recording more than my words can express. 💗💗💗

I went to one of the concerts where they were with Live and oh my God that man is such a good story teller
@@michaelmorris1839 ain't that the truth. Where did you see that show? I saw it in Virginia.
@@jim-sb5td the one they did in August 2018 it was in Virginia
@@michaelmorris1839 Awesome, we were at the very same show! It was a great night!
As a CC fan for over 25 years, had absolutely no idea about this song. It's incredible. And an amazing arrangement and vocal performance by Adam.

One of the best road trip cd’s ever! Turn the volume up and sing at the top of your lungs.

Sound track to growing up for me this album was. So glad they released this song

just gonna point out that Adam is wearing TWO different De La Soul shirts in this
sweet Maria, oh how u shine. i remember the carnival daze where the wheel of life kept on spinning around. thanks Adam for all you have contribute to the lore and mythic nature of rock & roll.
I love he has one De La Soul shirt for the interview and another for singing :)
“We’re always myth making” Great line.
I still love that record, thank for all you do.

Best live band I’ve ever seen. Blue October close number two though
Those are my #1 and #2 also!
Thank you, guys.
I see someone took advantage of the "buy 2 De La Soul t-shirts, get a free dread wig" deal.
Finally some truth
Just watched and it's wonderful
Nice to hear Adam's take on this
Always loved the title, and the lyrics from a song on the front sleeve of the album but not on the record
Brilliant
This song, original version, was also released on a cd single "hanginaround"
For anyone interested: the 2004 version of the single features a live version (in San Francisco)
Of course he got it in one take.
He was dead wrong about this song not belonging. Lifetime fan here and I kept wondering how perfect blue buildings and all the other songs were part of each other.
Such a fantastic song!!
Damn Maria again. Haven't heard about her in a while. She's all in that album.
"Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing"
Love your music it reminds of me
Adam, te amo!
I love to hear Adam’s wig of dreads tell stories
Fkn masterpiece
Love the shirt.
Man his wig is quite an unusual thing.
Wons Phreely that’s his hair

Allen Bunton lol how carefree your life must be. Santa is real too, huh?
The song is good, but would not fit with "Mr. Jones" or "Round Here".Thanks for leaving it out Adam!
Why does he look like Erik Griffin from workaholics LMAO
Jackson lmao that’s exactly who I thought that was !
Where can we watch the video of the full performance of the song?
Counting Crows have just released on here to their subscribers
It's wonderful
Hearing this song for the first time. I'm cry-
...ogenically frozen.
Don't do it.

No mystery that the dreads at this point are a wig

Free Palestine, Adam. Free Palestine
They lost me when they released *HARD CANDY* hated that album...
Than you need to jump back in for Somewhere under wonderland.
at first I thought it was David Cross doing a skit on the band, guess not...
Why is he looking down little girls shirts?
I love Adam, but he looks like he’s wearing a bad costume now.
Don't judge books (albums) by their cover, you wouldn't have found Einstein in August.
Truthfully I was thinking the same thing. I thought this was a parody video from the thumbnail.
Always enjoyed this band, but boy does his wig look ridiculous.
