  • Dark Sun is a post-apocalyptic, dying earth campaign setting for the Dungeons and Dragons role playing game. Experience the thrill of adventure in a blasted desert landscape beneath a crimson sun. Water is more precious than gold, arcane magic destroys the living environment, and an ancient cabal of immortal sorcerers rule what islands of civilization remain.

I'd like to see a new 5e version that adds Avernus vehicles. It would be so awesome. I also loved Dark sun way back in the day.

so originally the Dark Sun setting was made for a roleplaying miniatures war game named BATTLESYSTEM (yes all caps)
so the purpose was always to have siege weapons and armies, you can kind of see that in the large draft animal creatures and the lore around repurposing them as war platforms/beasts. it would be cool if D&D got some evolution back towards vehicle/skirmish rules (for background of the battle the PC's are engaged in)

Dark Sun is the best fantasy scenaries for AD&D for me. After Dark Sun, Planescape is the best. But I love Dark Sun, and I'm adapting this to 5e as homebrew. I adapted the Complete psionics handbook too. But I have been woorked too hard on this, because I have to do and translate all for portuguese, because in Brazil Dark Sun never was been released.

Best fantasy setting. I wish TSR didn't force the standard DND races on them though. It would be better if everything was unique.

That's the point though. At one point in the distant past Athas was a lush, green world (actually an oceanic one dominated by extremely advanced halflings, if you go far back enough), which was every bit your stock-standard fantasy setting. Elves, dwarves, orcs, gnomes, trolls, etc.
It became ravaged by defiler magic and wars of ethnic cleansing which led to the hellish brutal setting we know and love. Plus, muls, half-giants and thri-kreen aren't exactly standard D&D races.

@@mr.battle20 I know. But it allways cheapened the experience when I found out so and so was half orc or whatever. Dark Sun is so unique I want it to cut tethers to all other fantasy settings and be wholly unique.

Possibly the main reason why life energy is needed by wizards to cast spells is that the first wizard was a druid.

Great video! I'm watching this in 2022, so I'm not super hopeful for more videos... But I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your channel, and I really enjoyed hearing you talk about dark sun. If you ever fancy making another video and telling us more about your thoughts on Dark Sun, I'll definitely be here for it!

I always thought of Dark Sun as "Barbarian Fantasy", as it reminded me of stories like 'Conan The Barbarian' (both the Comics and the films), Kull the Conqueror, and the animated movie 'Fire and Ice'. Primitive, brutal, and unforgiving worlds with healthy dose of the monstrous and supernatural.
Also, everyone in Dark Sun's artwork is ultra ripped and displaying it proudly.

I got super into Dark Sun recently (I'm a newbie to dnd who was introduced via 5th edition) but omg dark sun captivated my heart and wish it would be translated to 5e cause I want to introduce it to my friends so we can play a campaign of it.

As to the gunslinger book line. It was when Roland and company went to Magus as apprentice gunslingers. Think it was like 4th book.. tricky because it was a flash back book to Roland's past.

The cleansing war is clearly presented 2e Dark Sun material. I’ll have to look at my 2400 boxed set, to see just how much is there. By the time Dragon Kings came out it was already well established. Dragon Kings was I think the 4th product put out for the game line.
I appreciate you making Dark Sun videos, and I understand it is easy to misspeak while filming; please refresh your memory by reading up, before you make a video. This is only important because there is so much
