Hi David. District 4 is now in the new construction phase. The small canal in your video is soon to be dredged and made two roads with trees along both sides of this canal. The street you are walking on was scheduled to be widen, laying underground cables with 6 car lanes. District 4 used to be a dangerous area about 25-30 years ago. If possible, after 1-2 years you come back and you will find District 4 more developed and completely different from now.
David we have been binging on your VietNam programming. You bring a much deeper perspective at many levels than others visiting in that country. You do good work son ! 👍
Imagine doing this in your own country… “You’ll never believe what I found after visiting the GHETTO… Normal, working people attempting to do their jobs while I shove a camera in their faces!” The entitlement 🙄
Intriguing take. I’d argue the fact that content like this and similiar ones have helped countless communities and benefited many businesses as without it the mainstream media is the only message that is pushed. And for this district you’ll find many articles portraying it as an area not to visit to this day, which is a shame. All about perspective I’d say. Anyhow, thanks for sharing your thoughts, stay blessed
He is out there risking his life in the heat and traffic to bring us contents like this. You sitting at home in your air conditioned home watching RUclips and bashing him - that's entitlement! And no, Vietnam is not is country. He is Australian born.
That's what I like the real life of countries I always try to see that wherever I go but there's always a risk but coming from the uk every area is a risk. keep up your vids loving them
Hi David great video as always, you made a really good job in that area, because you always use to go dip whit local people congratulations for your chanel
D8 is where my cousins aunts and uncle live from my mother’s side. Cho Rach Ong was where a cousin took my wife and I through to go shopping for groceries the first time I visited Vietnam in 2018. There’s a lady I always get my glasses from on Duong Ba Trac and there’s a Domino’s Pizza we always eat at. Heck on Saturdays we even go to church service so Q8 isn’t too bad, just super crowded and dirty by a westerner’s standards.
Always keep forgetting to leave a comment of your videos brother, love the content, the guides everything as a whole, I've been to Thailand and will be going back next June(2024) with a band of about 8 people in total for 2weeks in kata Phuket. Then most of them will be going back home, but me and my brother will be venturing off to Bangkok, Pattaya then Siem Reap(Cambodia) then to Ho Chi Min over another 2week period, you've shared so much relevant information and cheaper ways to get around which i'm very thankful for I continue to watch your inspiring travelling videos, keep up the Epic content brother much love from New Zealand.
well aslong as we stay together as a unit we can be as wild as we want within reason haha, but the quiet experiences just walking around the little ally ways and seeing new things, soaking in the many different vibes and the culture is my sorta thing so all your videos pretty much hit the nail on the head, much love once again bro, maybe even see you around at some point when im over those ways xD, your a busy man though chances are you'll be somewhere else making another vid haha@@davidkhai
that was an awesome episode the wee chat with the Aunty was very kool a story that is echoed all over the so called bad parts of cities all over the globe 👍👍
@@davidkhai yes being cautious is mandatory. It happened to my wife so many times in bright daylight when we use to live there. But other than that, Saigon is a very unique place to live. As i can see you enjoying your experience there.
Damn bro, you left your 6 figures job and live your dream. A freedom dream will take you around the world. Good luck to your adventure and stay safe brother. Respect!!!
Thanks for showing us! Despite the hardships, poverty and little education, they are still smiling. Thankful for my blessings ❤ I also love rice paper rolls and grow my own herbs 😅 The auntie was sweet and selling her rice paper rolls for so little.
Yeah you are right, I got denied boarding on my plane staying in Saigon, doing usual tourist things downtown. Got stuck alone, and had three extra nights at a serviced apartment in a random neighbourhood. Found some weed and had a great time. Very different experience from the first part. Highly recommend 👍👍👍
Way back in the '80 nowhere was actually safe in Saigon. I got my cheap new plastic sandals stolen right under my metal chair just minutes after letting them off for a more comfortable position inside a movie theater rạp Thanh Vân in quận 10. Got my roll of line worth less than a roll of bread for a kite snatched away inside a narrow street alleys when getting lost in the convoluted neighborhoods in quận 10. Never dare to wear a cap or hat or anything worth selling for a roll of plain bread during the very hard time.
The "hood" area in SG now is in western industrial parts of the city like Tan Binh, Binh Tan, Binh Chanh. District 4 and 8 are gentrified cause they are near the center. You wont see any gangs or violent crimes out in the open tho, just watch out for petty crimes.
According to your comments, Australia is obviously not safe. I am from Saudi Arabia🇸🇦, here you can go to any square meter in the country wearing a golden rolex watch, with your pockets filled with cash, wiping your nose with Benjamin Franklin green bills if you wish😂, and still walk safely anytime anywhere. If you mistakenly drop something, people around you will alert you about it. I own a Chevrolet Camaro, when I switch it off, I leave the keys inside on the seats and shut the door, but leave it unlocked. I just hate the feeling of keys in my pocket. I have never had my car stolen or tampered with. I do the same with my house, the doors are open 24/7.. someone just need to push the door to open it, and never had anything stolen from me my entire life.. never ever. This what I call a safe country.
As I knew district 4 was used to be the most dangerous and gato place in Saigon and district 8 is poor place but it changes a lot than before I believe
28:00 lol that old lady isn't an original saigonese. She has a very clear miền tây accent. A migrator to saigon. I think she might even be khmer herself or khmer mixed. Marriages between vietnamese and khmer are looked down upon by vietnamese. But she's from the boonies where the societal norm isn't established there. And lmao at "Vietnam is very good". Shes the type that would have joined the VC.
Hey David, Your Vietnamese makes you stood out as a Viet Kieu…:-)) hahahaha There’s nothing wrong with it but the local can tell right off that you are a Viet kiểu.
Yeah, Vietnam is soo good. Now, try to say something bad/negative about the government and let's see how good Vietnam is. LMFAO SMH P.S. Vendor's daughter is selling out.
Hi David, I just recently discovered your channel and the content is good and addicting. I'm really into travel content and honestly, you're pretty inspiring to me because you travel alone. I'm a pretty timid and small American guy and to be honest, I'm kind of scared to travel to places like Philippines and Vietnam alone. I've only traveled to Japan alone but thats pretty safe by most standards. I hope to learn more from you as I see more of your content. Really like that you interact with the locals. I'm sure its easier because you speak Vietnamese but still awesome to see.
I had the same mindeet before setting off on travelling alone, but once I started I found that people around the world are kind hearted, and nothing really to worry about. Obviously you should stay cautious and not do stupid things as a solo traveller. Hope you travel more in future as it’s an amazing feeling. I hope so! So much potential and kind people there
Have a nice day David. Stay safe always.
Most places in Vietnam now is generally safe. District 4 in Ho Chi Minh city used to be a no go place due to gangs, but not anymore.
Thank you for sharing 👍 Vietnam is safe country Especially Saigon
Spot on! Shame there’s still a negative narrative at times
Dude they are poor not dangerous. Come to the US and you will understand dangerous. Come to the hood here you’ll fear for your own safety
Agreed man, stay safe brother
He is trying to be sarcastic
You never been to real slums. Us hoods don’t even compare to the real slums. People in the us say they from the mud. Don’t even compare.
Second! Awesome Vlog bro you make me miss VN so damn much. 🍻🍻👍👍

Nice vlog ❤️❤️ love your videos ❤️❤️
The gap of the rich and the poor is really BIG…
Thanks for helping the local vendors.
not as big as India,Philippines or Korea in fact most country especially the Capitalism one all have big gap of income between the poor and the rich

In my country the vietnamese have turned an inner city area into a herion junkie GHETTO, oh the entitlement.

I happened to come across your channel and got hooked! Love the content and your journeys! Keep up the good work. Are you from Australia?
Awesome to hear! Yep I’m from Australia
I walked all over saigon, and I always felt safe honestly. Except a couple of dodgy alleyways at night
Hi David, great video! Aren't you worry about cellphone snatching?
Not at all but I’m always cautious just in case

Saigon’s most dangerous neighborhood is far better than the US’s nicest one
What a grumpy old goose, film and you buy 😂
Friendly and unfriendly people everywhere, no matter where it is , good and bad 🤣
Hi David, you keep it so real. Great Vlog as always.

Hi David. She said her daughter live in Miên ( Cambodia )
Thank you! I got mixed up

Haha hear France and US definitely have some rough bits 😅
How did you learn to speak vietnamese? just from going to Vietnam a few times? It's great you can communicate w/ them in Viet.
Parents are Vietnamese so learnt it from them as I grew up
28:21 Miên or Cao Miên means Cambodia, not China.
Got mixed up thank you!
I am surprised David did not get his camera taken from him.
nice video bud I live in Florida usa district 8 is known for catholic is like mid low class
Hi Davie im in Vietnam now as I’m watching this video maybe we’ll run into each other somewhere on the street

People in District 8 already seem kinder than the rest of Hanoi.
Genuinely such kind people
As I knew district 4 was used to be the most dangerous and gato place in Saigon and district 8 is poor place but it changes a lot than before I believe
HELLO DAVID🙂👍💪❤
You're the king of youtuber in Saigon Lol but where is Wendy she is cute ❤❤🎉😮
Gone back to Australia sadly
plastic bag for your drink?- thats just insane
Very safe in VN now, gangs was like "Nam Cam" all being executed. So it's quite safe but still keep away from the dark alleys at night.
She said that her daughter married to man who live in Cambodia (Miêm) , and you understood that daughter was married to man living in China.
Indeed I did
I see Bui Vien at 4.45

Can you get a Grab car instead of riding on the back of a motorbike?
Yep definitely can
First
Rather walk around there than Dandenong that’s for sure lol
😂😂 Facts
Làm video có ph phu đê tiêng viêt đi 😇khai.
District 8 may be as dangerous as St Albans, potentially.
"Miên" is a slang for cambodia not china
Great video ❤
Thanks! Got mixed up
Yo! So you come to Saigon, wanna a cup of coffee?
I have free time on Sunday.
Cafe ko? Tôi rảnh ngày CN, đang ở quận mấy? 😊
Not in Saigon anymore unfortunately. thanks though :)
