- Tyrese Haliburton. 2023 NBA All-Star. 2021 NBA All-Rookie First Team. Master of the Pinoy Step.
The Pinoy Step is a move intended the throw off the defender’s timing by incorporating a shot fake or lob fake as the offensive player strides to the basket after picking up their dribble.
As you can see in these clips, Haliburton has mastered the art of deception and distorts the defender’s timing so he can get his shot off or generate easy looks for his teammates. Haliburton weaponizes the threat of his passing about as well as anyone in the league.
Despite only playing 56 games this past season, Tyrese finished fourth overall in total assists in 22/23 behind only Trae Young (741 assists in 73 games), Nikola Jokic (678 assists in 69 games), and James Harden (618 assists in 56 games). His ability to keep you guessing about whether he is looking to pass or shoot grants him the ability to make decisions based on how the defense plays him and this past season, that led to a career-best 10.4 assists AND 20.7 points per game on 49.0/40.0/87.1 shooting splits.
Big shouts to Jordan Lawley, Paul Fabritz, and Drew Hanlen.

Thank you for these.
that special move we call: Pinoy Step
Kahit sinong nakakalaro ko kahit bata gumagamit talaga ng ganyang moves..
Zach Lavine also likes to use this move very much.
Evin you are my favorite youtuber and this is my first comment.
Can you do a midrange mastery for 22-23 Jimmy Butler? Or a fantastic finisher for Mavs Kyrie...
great great move. Hard to think about using in a game scenario so he must've practiced it alot
It's not that difficult. It's a travel.
@@domagojhrgovic7419not in the nba, it’s only a travel because other leagues haven’t allowed a gather yet
@@Falcons15176 What you call a "gather step" used to be called a first step, and you had one more step to finish the play, that's basketball. Those rules were put in place for a reason, to emphasise dribbling skills and footwork. NBA is a circus nowdays.
Sabay sabay po tayong tumayo at sumaludo sa ating watawat
0:23 that was a lot of steps
the first two were gather steps, you can actually see the ball still spinning against his hand which means the ball hasnt yet reached a truly gathered state (tyrese is doing this on purpose, delaying the gather to confuse the defender). this is the reason for like 99% of internet basketball fans erroneously calling plays uncalled travels. a professional bball player is basically physically incapable of committing an "off dribble" travel like this, you only ever see it when they get confused / brain fart

Pinoy step pinoy pass
Is a full video coming ?
Could u do all of James Harden’s makes from midrange this past season?
i like this step very much. you can fish oit 2 or 3 defenders
At the first part of the vid..they reacted on that fake shot..but on the last part, I think they have already scouted and figured it out.
Even NBA commentators acknowledge it as the "pinoy step".
Filipino step
I saw Rajon Rondo do this in the 2020 NBA Finals. 👍
Lebron James thought the pass was for him.
bubble rondo is one of the best pgs i ever seen
Can’t belidve not more players do this. Specially the shorter ones
Siguro nag-FIBA sa Maynila ito si Ty Halibs
Absolutely insane how the views and likes arent balanced 😢
tignan niyu sa official page ng nba, may highlights na ganiyan doon with caption "In the Philippines, they call it Pinoy Step."
Can you do jared mccain
Ps I love you. Also, how is this so effective? Gotta know the conversion rate for getting a defender to jump
Well, when my Tyrese passing video comes out, you can track the number of times he throws the lob in situations similar to this and then someone can go through more film where the defender doesn't bite and we can all compare notes after
Say less@@EvinGualberto
You can see in the video it is around 50% because in the second half of it, you can really tell he didn't fake anyone but just had a clear path to the basket. This is beautiful and smart, but it only works 1) in NBA 2) if you have a great athletic center in your possession. Imagine Murray doing this with Jokic, lol. Or you doing it in a pick-up game. You need a really great jumper to bite, because once he goes up, hang time is so long you can do a lot. In European basketball, even if they bite, they could recover from it because no one is going to jump to intercept a pass 4 m from the basket. Once again, if you are playing with Deandre Jordan, probably many defenders would try to jump and block your pass, because they know if that pass goes through, there is 0 chance they can do anything because Deandre is slamming it.
Even if the defender doesn't jump on the fake, it kinda froze them and make it harder for them to contest the shot afterwards.
its easy to defend if you anticipate it.. its just your reflexes that you jump when someone raised the ball when driving.
It's a Pinoy Step Basketball
it’s definitely something a filipino would invent lol.. no doubt about it 😂
The Philippines is trippin if they think a ball fake while taking to steps originated down there.
It was not originated there but it blew there and every pinoy do this move.
where it's originated?
Because everyone uses it here, even I do lmao. it is dirty asf, but it works
Did it in the early 90’s after coming to US at Grange middle school in California and its how i earned respect because I kept blowing past the tallest defenders…i was short 5’0.
@@fanphysiquealchemist yes It's not originated from here, but try to visit here in any streets we have a Basketball Courts, and when you play with us I'm sure you will be also fake by that move.
That is why we call it pinoy step, You can see it everywhere here.
