In this video I take y’all along with me as I set my Blue Crab traps in the Loxahatchee River located in Jupiter Florida. I then head down to gig Snakeheads in Fort Lauderdale before returning to check my traps the next day. We then set up my portable cooker on my boat and stuff our belly’s with all the fresh 🦀 we could eat !!!!!!

I grew up on the Elizabeth River in Chesapeake VA. When I was about 10 years old my grandmother bought me a 14 foot John boat with 9.9 Yamaha. I used to net the crabs off the pilons on the rail road trusses by the Ford factory and completely fill the entire boat to where I had to stand on the aluminum bench with an extension for the tiller. I have such great memories on the Elizabeth River.
Wow. I dont know how far back your talking but I miss crabbing in the 70"s n 80's in NJ n in Chesapeake Bay, VA. Those were the good ole days when you would catch at least 1 bushel in just a few hours. Jumbo's n #1's all day. Pretty sure them days are gone. No traps neither. We got down n dirty catching them in my opinion the best way and way too much fun! Also my last few years in NJ I actually threw a couple of the commercial pots in places I would go n catch crabs all day my way and was pretty steady n consistant. Even these days we would still catch at least a bushel. At the end of day we pulled those big traps up n guess what? Ha! 3-4 all day if we were lucky. I wanna teach my grandchildren the best n most fun way to crab if I can find a spot. Hopefully they will get hooked too. No pun intended. Lol
Mary Gould I am talking about the early 80’s. They have put a lot of work into cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay and they have done an outstanding job. They cut way back on limits for dredgers and it may even be illegal now. The water is much cleaner now and the crab population is consistent. I too, love to catch crabs the old school way. Chicken, twine and a dip net is all you need to have a great day 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

Love to watch your videos. I raised my son on my own from the time he was 4. Teaching him the values in life and nature by fishing hunting crabbing oystering clamming. I lost my son last year at 31 years old a month before his 32nd birthday. Thank you for all the wonderful adventures bringing old wonderful memories back to life ! It helps me cope with the tragic loss I have experienced. Keep up the great work May Godbless you and your family and friends!

I am a very early sub to DMFD and a Founding Sub for Blue Gabe. I have always felt appreciative of being able to share in your adventures, but have never felt my life and yours was much different until today. My son and daughters were Head Removers and active catchers, and I thought that was so cool. Watching you and Jake work together sent me to wondering what I must have missed. I always knew you and Robert were blessed, but today sent that to a whole new level. The fact that Mom was there only made it more perfect. I am forced to be on my Bucket List of Life and so hope Robert and family, and the Blue Crew are a part of that too. Keep up the great work and keep being the greatest of Dads.

When I was six years old I moved to Maryland. We lived in a house on the St. Mary’s River called cherry Fields. I learned a crab and was very successful at a very young age. It was fun having our own beach. I could fish and they were always otters. My mom would say go get a dozen crabs and I would be back in 20 minutes. I would just walk in the water and scoop them with a net Or I would be lazy and use a chicken neck on a piece of string and pull them towards me. It’s great that you hang out with your family. It’s something that kind of eluded me throughout my life. I’m 57 with no children and I am looking for a family.

The green/yellow mustard is the best part of the crab to eat. But the big secret for MD crab soup is to collect the mustard from the shells and add that to the soup. No better stock flavoring!

Oops. I forgot 1 lil thing. Your boy is really into it. He's really enjoying himself it seems besides he's a great help from what I see in this first video of you all ever. Seems really strong n a hard worker for a little man. Dont see too many like him these days. So if I get a few tips on where I can crab up here in Stuart i might need his help. Can I borrow him n your mom one day? Lol but im serious and I can teach them my way. As long as you have a few big pots to cook all of our catch in. If not I got a few you can borrow. Lol. Oh yeah, almost forgot. No traps like you use involved. Where's the fun in that?

In Western Australia we are only allowed to use collapsible dilly drop nets; so the crabs have to be in the net when you pull them up. So you have to check them regularly. This prevents over-fishing. Similar eating here; not much seasoning, it's butter and vinegar
