Swap out Ruddock for Dutton, Morrison or whatever thing occupies the immigration portfolio these days it's still the same if not worse, we've normalized treating people seeking asylum as something to be feared and to be shipped away, hidden/imprisoned on a pacific island (whilst thumbing our nose at several UN treaties/international laws) and we for the most part seem okay with that. @richard20bris I don't see how the action of paying your way to asylum overseas has any impact on your need for asylum. What would you suggest, spending the $10,000 on guns and ice cream and making the most of it?
@richard20bris There is no queue, you either can make the journey to Australia or you can't. Also the vast majority of people who do seek asylum are found to be genuine refugees. I like how you paint asylum seekers as rich and powerful who are just avoiding the bureaucracy when that $10 000 is probably all they have left.
They're initiating Liberal pol Phil Ruddick, this is certainly not the views of TISM. Evident in asking "what's the difference between those boat people and you?"
Unfortunate that the song has such a bizarre mix of ultimately contradictory messages. You can't be patriotic for a country while simultaneously demanding that it be invaded.
The difference Ron, is that the 'boat people' are not 'refugees'. They are quite safe (but poor) in Indonesia, but wish to live in a rich country, so they are entering Australia illegally.
only thats not the case at all because something like 97% of "maritime arrivals" were found to be legitimate refugees.
