      Still a legendary around hear in Alabama in high school. 2022/2026. I'm a softmore this year. I have a 01. My dad's 1999 has 440k miles still runs strong.

      Yes it does. High mileage and still lasted like 10 minutes on the limiter and probably would have went longer if the rad didn't blow.

    never saw a 5.3 blow like that. must've already had issues. most healthy 5.3s can survive tons of abuse

    I love the 5.3 there some of the best built motors out there. My dads 1999 has 440k miles and doesn't tik or smoke. My 01 has 230 and its just getting broken in lol

      My 99 has 230k as well and runs so good. It was pretty neglected before I picked it up at 220k also.

      Some stuff does run real good before they blow up, the engine gets loose and has less rolling resistance but is still within spec. Then it goes downhill from there. Or it was good and cleaned out by that point.

      @@jeremiahpage Id say it probably cleaned out the carbon real good from the ports in the heads, valves, Plugs, Piston's etc. As well as cleaned out the injectors and fuel rails etc. My truck sat for 3 year, I got it running and held it on the limiter later that day. Only for about 15 seconds everyday and it would run better and better. That was 8 months ago. Its a 99 5.3 its my daily. I drive it kinda hard and it sees the rev limiter daily. I do very good maintainence on it i must add. 3-4k mile oil change internals, I change the powersteering fluid every other oil change. Its calls for 5w30 i run 10w30 full synthetic STP brand oil and AC-Delco filter. It loves it lol

      @@hotwheelsracer6380 10w30 isn't any better for it. Just the cold weight. If anything it just takes longer to get the oil into the components when it's cold resulting in a dry start. I've heard lots of debate on going to 0w30.

      ​@matthewmorgan582 my dad's chevy has 440k miles and we run castral 10w40 full synthetic. It doesn't smoke or tik. We run that oil in all our vehicles and alot of our cars last long than other people's cars. We normally do our oil changes around 15k miles and I can say we definitely haven't been easy on my dad's truck lol.

      @@nano-gq9tv Yeah, I run Amsoil and I use a Lucas Oil high mileage additive. Car runs like silk at 260k. I would change it at at least 10k with synthetic though. Full synthetic only has to be like 40% synthetic. Amsoil is 100% synthetic. Pennzoil is also really good. Is the truck a diesel?

    Back in 2000, I purchased a subaru brat with an ea81 in it for 200$. Long story short, I did this same thing, and after 4 or 5 hours I got tired of hearing it so I just turned it off. Pulled the engine and trans and sold them for 300$. Those old subaru motors were nuts.

    And to think some guy is gonna pull that motor out of a junkyard, rebuild it, and throw 20lbs of boost at it for another 350k.
    It may be blown up but that engine is still gonna out live all of us😂

      They love it. Half the neighborhood starts something up when I do. Derby cars over there, harlys and quads over here, old tractors across the field. Only one Karen and she don't complain anymore. 😁. File complaint in the air box, proceed to the rev limiter.

      I cant remember exactly. It was like 350,000 or something like that. Most 5.3s take it great, keep oil in it and don't overheat it to bad.

      I was about to ask the same thing. I have an '03 just about identical to this one with 93k on the clock. This was a tough one to watch but clearly it was destined for the scrapyard anyway. Gives me faith that my engine will outlive the rest of the truck

      It helps that the actual redline is 7700rpm, but factory set to around 6000rpm. Makes it hard to wear them out.

    I swear the 53 Hass to be one of the most durable Chevy engine but I swear to God those things do not blow up. I bet that thing only locked up because it got hot. If that thing cools down I bet it you it will turn over again.

      I climb some long hills in my avalanche, 10,000 pounds on the trailer, 2nd gear, 5500rpm for minutes at a time. Never gets over 210.

    Why do newer 5.3s not hit limiter like this. My 08 revved out at 4k and so does my 14 now

      They have Alot of safety features. Try holding it between park and reverse not sure if it will work but worth a shot. Let me know...

      Soft limiter. It's there so you don't do a neutral drop and destroy the transmission.

      ​@@jeremiahpagemy mom's 07 in park will not go past 4k but in drive it will go right at the limiter. And our 06 gmc yukon has the same motor as that suburban in the video will git 5.8k in park but they made it to where it doesn't Bounce its smooth. I think they changed that in 04? I now the motors are the same 1999/06. The 1999/02 have cable throttle and 04 up have electric throttle so that's probably why our 06 has a smooth revlimter.

    What a waste. These LS engines are the new go to engine for hot rodders and car builders. With all of the you tubers that love to blow these motors up, there won't be many good blocks and heads left.

      I have pulled dozens out of the weeds, most have went to a junk yard that also pulls and sells parts, sacrificing one or 2 for some fun isn't going to hurt.

      There’s a reason everyone uses these things. They’re a dime a dozen, easy to get parts for, and also because nobody cares if they blow up. Rebuilding/fixing an LS is a lot easier than anything else. It’s like Ford’s 4.6L, or the 5.7L Hemi. There’s loads of the things out there.

      Somewhere around 800. Can't remember exactly. But every vehicle is different, cats pay different, some aluminum rims are lighter than others. And that's just the scrap, I sold other parts.
