I still have some box topiary ,but my best replacement is Baggesons Gold .Its so tough ,even when accidentally neglected ,extremely resilient, topiarys quite speedily .Grows from cuttings really well .from Somerset .

Im pondering it being neitherinasmuch as this bed looks relatively new and box balls and cones are often bought in from open ground nurseries sustaing a good deal of root disturbance and if not well looked after can frequently fail usually due to drying out..

I'd say blight my lovely box hedge is invested with caterpillars and they leave a very obvious web and clumping. I'm very sad because I'd only just got it to the height I wanted. I'm researching alternatives because I don't think it can be saved.

I agree with ladyjrider66 it could be drought as why has the bay died ? I have been training a lot of box cloud trees starting before the current problems Just my luck !

I have just put in a parterre (not nearly on Mark's scale, but I have developed an addiction to boxwood. No matter why I'm at the nursery, I always end up in the boxwood section.😑

I don't know whether it's blight or caterpillar in this case, but there are now blight resistant varieties available. Bunny Guinness covers the subject in one of her RUclips videos.

I think if it was caterpillar the plants would still have the odd clumps of leaves. I have a large box bush in France which was devastated a few years ago by caterpillar. A neighbour down the road was also affected and he cut his to the ground. I just pruned out some deadwood. It took a couple of years but its fully recovered now.

Hi, I've been admiring your parterre and researching. But I've been hearing about box blight and caterpillar for many years now. I recently bought 25 Lonicera nitida to plant into a low hedge along a path and my rose bed. I am also planting a hornbeam hedge. And plan a parterre to divide my front garden to allow for a yew topiary and 2 standard roses. I must admit I'm trying to avoid box. Though I do have 12 small ones.
I wonder if the recent drought could have been to blame in iron bridge? As the bay have suffered too?
