The title is actually Japanese, and the chorus is sung in Japanese. Domo means thankyou and tomodashi means friend. It's a play on words to mean thank you friends.
RM is really good at playing with languages and phrases. It's important to know the meaning behind his lyrics if you really want to understand his genius.
the mv is pretty creatively telling a story of war, separation and humanity.
it's highlighting how children are most affected and helpless and that children are the most innocent souls, as another kid is the only one willing to really help without judgement.
based on the japanese lyrics " let's dance, we're all friends here" it's an offer of reconciliation after the atrocities done to korean people. that's my understanding of the story.
it can also be viewed as adressing recent situations, that mainly affect children.

Just wanted slightly correct you (no hate, I know you are learning):
RM is the leader of BTS & main rappers. HOWEVER a leader in sk is different then what it is in the west. RM basically the go between person between the group & the company. He also kind of is in charge of interviews & making sure things are running smoothly in the background & between the members themselves & each member is okay too…he has a huge burden and pressure on him. That being said he isn’t someone who tries to be the center of the group. He is wants each member have their own thoughts, opinions, & voice. He is amazing at bringing the best out of ppl. I could keep on going but he is an amazing leader…
Also main, lead, etc is different meaning in SK then the west. Basically main just means oversees that area. For example there is a dance line in BTS & Jhope is the main dancer so he is in charge of the dance portion and makes sure all the members are okay with their dancing parts & know the moves & looks at the different stages to know if they need to change anything due to size of stage or whatever.

RM is the leader of BTS and he's the main rapper, but he's not the lead singer. In kpop the leader of a group is more like the team captain of a sports team. And one of the biggest mistakes people make in regards to BTS is seeing them only as a pop group. BTS roots as a group is hip hop which still influences them today and they do so many other genres besides pop too.

More then 90%of BTS music has the 3 rappers rapping and maybe 50%of Bts music is based on the rap. Kpop is just the industry name, their music have eno particular genre, Bts particularly came out with rap, hip-hop. The most pop thing they did were those enghish songs in the pandemic years.

Jin is coming home in a few days from the military. He was the first to go in so he didn’t have time to complete an album. He did however work with legendary group Cold Play to record a song dedicated to Army called Astronaut. He was able to perform it at a Cold Play concert before he left.

There are certain BTS songs titled as BTS but are actually performed solo by individual members. Its works as part of the deeper concept albums.
WINGS 2016,
Love yourself Answer 2018 and Map of the soul:7 2020 are 3 BTS albums that have all 7 of their solo music. You can listen to these albums to get an idea of what they individually sound like on a bts album.
Here is what all rappers do in the group.
RM is Rapper and leader.
Suga is rapper and producer.
Jhope is rapper and dance leader.
Here Leader means spokesperson for the group. He is the one with mission and vision for bts and writes the lyrics for the songs and set the albums tone.
Jhope and suga also write music along with him.
It not like in western groups where you have a lead vocalist sort of like beyonce in destiny child or whatever.

3:37 Yes, RM is very smart and well read. He has demonstrated a natural ability for language arts and is very good at rhymes and wordplay using one or more languages. (In this case Korean, English and Japanese). He’s a poet at heart so he can say a lot in a short phrase. His lyrics usually pack multiple meanings underneath the “surface” one. The generally accepted “meaning” to his made-up word domodachi is “thank you friends” but the word “dōmo” by itself can also be a greeting, an acknowledgment of someone’s presence, or an expression of surprise, confusion, apology, or gratitude. It can even mean “somewhat” with negative connotations or be deemed rude/insulting (because it’s very informal/casual) by strangers or people of a higher professional/social status. So in reality, who really knows **what** RM intended it to mean. (I’m leaning toward it carrying different meanings for different people. “Somewhat friends” is an interesting one that seems to match the MV, imo).

RM is the main spokesperson in public, a mediator within the group and the group's liaison to the company. All typical roles of a western spokesperson. Thanks for your reactions to RM and sharing his new music with your nephew. I don’t know how much you listened to BTS, but they “do pop music” isn’t exactly correct. In fact they started out as a hip-hop group and have 3 great rappers: RM, Suga (or Agust D), who is a very aggressive, fast rapper (also started in underground), and J-Hope (who stared out as a hip-hop street dancer). Please react to the other 2 rappers’ music too. You’ll be surprised how little pop describes their music. The other four members are vocalists, but they have also branched out to do many different genres of music as BTS and solo.

Not all music that comes out of South Korean = K-pop. That’s kinda like saying that all music from black artists is “urban”, it’s just not true and something the western music industry does to marginalize them from the genre categories they deserve to be nominated in.
K-pop is not a genre of music as much as it is an industry, and BTS since debut has pushed the boundaries of what “idol music” (what is usually referred to as “K-pop” in the west) is supposed to be. So not even BTS are really your typical “K-pop”, as you mentioned BTS started out as hiphop idol group and have always been involved in their music.
And RM is not the “lead singer”, he is the “leader”, meaning he sets the direction for the team, helps resolve conflicts within the group, becomes a bridge of communication between the label and the members, leads the interviews and press tours, gives speeches, etc. RM is fluent in Korean, Japanese and English, he has rapped in all 3 languages throughout his career, often switching between them mid song, your friend will prob love his song Yun ft. Erykah Badu, it doesn’t have an MV but it was the opening track to his previous album “Indigo”.

You've met RM want to meet AUGUST D self titled song. They have always done solo work. Agust D is Sugas alter ego and is the answer back to the rappers from the underground who used to be their friends who called them out for joining an idol group. Said they could not call themselves rappers anymore and were girls for wearing make up. So this solo is early in BTS career.
BTS aren't pop they cover all genres both as a group and as soloists. The more you react to them the more they'll surprise you
