True, but also from GM’s standpoint a 2 door full size SUV wouldn’t sell nearly as much as a midsize “sporty” crossover. GM is in the business of making money just like most other major corporations. The best thing to do is appreciate the old stuff like the GMT-400 platform and hope that consumer taste shifts soon.

I was making $15/h and I paid for the truck with a check with money that I had saved up working 2 jobs. I had that truck for 12yrs and put over 350k km on it, no major repairs needed. It was still running when I sold it to a friend that wanted to use it for hauling wood to his cabin and going off road. Those trucks then were near bullet proof.
I'm old enough to remember when ya could buy most every brand new American brand of car, pickup, van for *well under* $10K!! In the early-mid '70's most were still only $5K & less (some...like an AMC Hornet for example, were approx. $2100.00-$2200.00 in '72 & my mother paid $4200.00 for a brand new Firebird Formula 350 in '74)...but by '80 they were all creeping closer to the $8-10K range...which they *quickly* reached & then surpassed within only another approx. 4-5 yrs.

45 more hp and roughly 30 more lb ft of torque, and better fuel economy. I’ve had both and the vortec was definitely a noticeable difference. These tbi 350s also had throttle body issues
this is my favorite generation gm truck, dont care if its the tbi series engines or the vortec they both kick ass amd even the 6.5 turbo diesel models with some kinks worked out kick ass too... had a 1/2 ton 5 speed with a 6.5 and with all the mods too cooling like duramax fan swap etc and new injection pump etc ( all the musts that made them flop from factory ) it would get 28mpg highway empty and 24mpg loaded with a 6500lb trailer
@blackandgold51 o yeah the detroits were definatly ahead of the olds diesel but the olds diesel was rushed into production causing alot of missed issues. later models werent that bad but by then thier rep was out the window

it's ridiculous. As low as my expectations are these days, I was almost positive that it had to be a joke when I first heard of it.
Absolutely disgusting what they did to the blazer
True, but also from GM’s standpoint a 2 door full size SUV wouldn’t sell nearly as much as a midsize “sporty” crossover. GM is in the business of making money just like most other major corporations. The best thing to do is appreciate the old stuff like the GMT-400 platform and hope that consumer taste shifts soon.
Im sure the new Blazer will only last 3 maybe 4 years at most and then it will be removed from the market. I have heard that a GMC Jimmy will be coming back on the Colorado platform.
@@chumbawaumbacumpa True but at the same time, if another manufacturer released a full size 2 door 4x4 SUV that was a modern version of the GMT400 and it sold like hot cakes you can bet your a$$ that GM would fast track a full size 2 door 4x4 SUV. Car companies are weird like that.
Those were magnificent and handsome trucks. They look better than what's coming out today
My dad had one just like it. Beautiful suv. Enjoyed riding in it. Miss it sometimes.
I have a 1998 2 door Tahoe Z 71 with only 110,000 miles and looks almost brand new. My dad had it and I got it 5 years ago when he died. The most enjoyable automobile I have ever had!
Love those old TBI 350's. Such a great distinct sound they produce.
Growing up, I waited all week for this program. This channel, with these reviews, is nostalgic GOLD! 👍
Gotta love those old obs chevys. Tough, cheep and reliable. Still see em on the road.
An old friend of mine bought one of these from an older gentleman with only 30k kilometres on it and it was incredibly clean, not a single cosmetic imperfection, not even weather blemishes!
Handsome thing.
I grew up in the back of one of these, and learned to drive in it too. A black ‘93 Blazer Sport, with the red interior, and 33” tires. It looked great, and dad always kept it clean. It was great for family road trips and camping adventures.
Yay. Y'all did it. I love seeing the 89' K Blazer review but always wondered about the 1992 version. Thanks for posting!
I still Remember going to a GMC dealer in California to custom order a ‘93 as our first family vehicle as a newlywed. We ski’d and fished all through the Sierras back then.I brought home the build sheet to show the wife and was turned down because of the lack of a 4 door capability. We didn’t need a behemoth like the Suburban. Ended up with an Explorer Eddie Bauer instead. Still sad to this day. I really loved the design and capabilities of that GMC.
After 19 years i still love my full size 94 Blazer. Its a great truck.
3:30ish. Dale Earnhardt was a busy man in the 90's. Didn't know he moonlighted for MotorWeek lol
what do you mean?
Remember when you could buy a new full size pick up truck for $20k?
back when these were new i was in high school working at a fast food joint at the $4.25 minimum wage lol
Now you can only get that price in a brand new small truck like Nissan Frontier.
@@siamiam And now minimum wage is $7.25/hr and new trucks cost $50k+. I bought a one year old 1999 GMC Sierra straight cab long box 4x4 V6 with 17k km on it in 2000 for $18k from the dealer.
With a stick
I'm old enough to remember when ya could buy most every brand new American brand of car, pickup, van for *well under* $10K!!
In the early-mid '70's most were still only $5K & less (some...like an AMC Hornet for example, were approx. $2100.00-$2200.00 in '72 & my mother paid $4200.00 for a brand new Firebird Formula 350 in '74)...but by '80 they were all creeping closer to the $8-10K range...which they *quickly* reached & then surpassed within only another approx. 4-5 yrs.
I spent 8 years in the back seat of a 1992 Chevy Blazer version of this. My folks ordered it custom in 1992.
Amazing truck my parents replaced tires and a battery in 9 years we had it. I was upset when it was traded in because I was within a year of graduating HS and wanted to buy it.
Many trips with it with our popup camper to camp grounds around our state. Same interior fabric as this. Major flashback! It kept us safe in a roll over when it was nearly new and it served us 7-8 more years.
We got 18mpg with ours but there was no ethanol in gas back then..
I love these square body, five point wheels, torquise two tone paint stickers, full sized trucks. Reliable. They really were compared to most. That front end is still BEAUTIFUL
good ole gm trucks!
Brian GM is garbage 😂
Best trucks on the road!
@@jaymoar3561 The new ones yes but the Old ones no way.
Up till the early 2000s GM products were giving Ford a run for their money
I’m crazy about these old school truck. Love it!
After watching this now searching eBay and Craigslist!
Brett You need to look on FB marketplace. CL and EBay are dying
Good luck
I had a 1992 Chevy Blazer version of this truck, I put 250k on it, towing a boat over a 5 state area, among other things. It is easily the best, all around vehicle I have ever owned. Good looking, versatile, easy to drive, distinctive. How we got to the Traverse based Blazer of today, I’ll never know.
My dad had one - same model except it was blue/gold with tan interior. Awesome suv.
That’s a great looking, real, SUV.
210 hp...Was so much better in 96 when the vortec was introduced!!
These older 350s never suffered from the piston slap fiasco, though.
45 more hp and roughly 30 more lb ft of torque, and better fuel economy. I’ve had both and the vortec was definitely a noticeable difference. These tbi 350s also had throttle body issues
Those tbi's were anemic
this is my favorite generation gm truck, dont care if its the tbi series engines or the vortec they both kick ass amd even the 6.5 turbo diesel models with some kinks worked out kick ass too... had a 1/2 ton 5 speed with a 6.5 and with all the mods too cooling like duramax fan swap etc and new injection pump etc ( all the musts that made them flop from factory ) it would get 28mpg highway empty and 24mpg loaded with a 6500lb trailer
@blackandgold51 o yeah the detroits were definatly ahead of the olds diesel but the olds diesel was rushed into production causing alot of missed issues. later models werent that bad but by then thier rep was out the window
Styling perfection.
I had one of these, 1997 GMC Yukon GT... it was old... no rust and ran nice... sold in June 2019, 220000miles in it. I miss it some days
Hi MotorWeek! I love these retro reviews. What type of equipment do you use to do these transfers from tape to digital? The quality is superb
We run the original U-matic or Beta tape through a Bright Eyes SDI to Digital converter, then into a Black Magic monitor to be recorded on to an SD Card. After its captured I slap it together in Final Cut and spit it out in 1080p at 60fps.
@@bendavis9733 Thanks for replying. That actually sounds like a fun job. Are you hiring? lol
@@bendavis9733 I actually do audio editing work as a hobby. I've recorded a lot of material from old audio tapes and improved the sound. If you need the audio from some old MW clips noise-reduced, "enhanced" or "brightened," let me know!
I am the 7th owner of a 98 suburban with 200,000 miles and it still turns heads.
Love my 95” Yukon gt
I've had 5-2 door Tahoes 3 rwd and 2 Z71 editions so I guess you can say it's my go to truck & I recently purchased a 2000 Cadillac Escalade with 87k miles for $3,499 in not only mint but perfectly condition yeah GMC FOR LIFE!
These are so cool, I can’t remember the last time I saw one in person though.
They're everywhere in the Midwest.
Likely all of these rusted away here in Québec which is unfortunate.
I owned the Blazer version. Loved it.
Just sold my 93 sle. Kind of regret it.
I had a 94 that I regret selling
Arthur Morgan I regret it so much. To this day
Best SUV GM built especially with the 5.7
In the mornings on my way to work I have a 10 minute drive on back roads and then about 20 minutes on Interstate 65. GMT400 platform vehicles are always on the back roads and looking at the traffic coming from the opposite direction on the interstate I'm always able to see three or four of them at least every morning and every evening. Every time I see one it makes me glad to see the original Chevrolet small block power and a vehicle down the interstate.
6:00 "It's true that sales of full size SUV's have declined in recent years as the popularity of smaller 4x4 wagons rose."
When did this sentiment change?
These are so nice wish we had em in Australia 🇦🇺
I thought they did have these in Australia, just under the holden nameplate
Yeah for only couple years but the four door long wheelbase suburban and in Chevrolet trim the GMC is nicer 😀
You can also get a diesel engine for these starting in 1994 I don't know if it was exclusive to the 2 door or if it was offered on the four door as well
Salem
This 1992 could have got a 6.2 diesel motor which by then was a great motor.
2 door and 'burban only.
spazzman90
That sucks
I still own my 98 Tahoe LT still to this day running like it came from the dealer with 252k miles a real work horse
My 95 2 door tahoe is pushing 290k miles. I'm so in love with that thing I could marry it.
I wish Gm brought back the tahoe and yukon 4 door, or even better make an Escalade 2 door
Fucken love this styling my dad had a brow two tone surburban. There are so many option for this truck you can make it a lowrider, muscle truck, dub car, offroad truck, raper truck, bullet proof truck and so on
there is many here in Saudi Arabia and working great especially the 2500 HD with 8 lug nuts i see some every day GM 👍
They are beautiful looking and better than anything on the road today
GMC Yukon has finally has the same of C/K pickups who started in 1988! This grille of GMC C/K fits for 1988-1994 model year & while GMC Suburban/Yukon fits for 1992-1994 model year!
I used to have one of these beauties. Paid $3,000 for it. That thing would go through anything, even 2 feet of snow at 4am on unplowed roads. sold it because gas prices 😡
It's to hard to get a 90's truck with 2020 engine and brakes?
LS swap and brake upgrade? hell yea
@@hank1556 honestly I'd get a big block for mine... can't beat the sound of a good ole big block
Ls swap and wilwood brakes a nice bluetooth double din and you got yourself a modern truck
@@michaelguevara8015 Not really, for one you still won't have rack and pinion steering...
These trucks/ SUVS still looks great even to this day and once in a while I still them on the road.
My dad had the gt new. Made me want to get one. I love the 2 door and how clean the body style is
If this model was a Chevy, I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I had a 94 in this same color except with tan trim and interior. It was a beast.
Ya no los hacen como antes! Que recuerdos!
I love mine. Somehow I lucked out and found a 1993 Yukon GT, 350 TBI, 4x4, and factory 5 speed manual transmission.
I use to love the two door Tahoe with the barn doors. I want one
Love this gmc even though I was born after 2000
Anyone remember the GT models of these things?
Sure do!
Wanted one sooooooooo bad when i was 17.
Oliver Delgado got one rn
factory duals lol that's like the only difference I think
Timeless design from Chevy unlike today's models that have no personality or appeal at all
Unbelievable that as giant as the Yukon was at that time they only made it as a two door.
The Suburban was the 4 door alternative to the Blazer and Yukon until 1995 when they came out with the 4 door Tahoe and Yukon.
It wasn't even that gigantic really. A new Honda Accord is almost 8 inches longer!
It says something that you still see these old yukons tahoes and suburban as daily drivers to this day
